Hey guys, new to SL. Friend just told me about it yesterday so decided to give it a shot. I've downloaded the 1.19.1.4 version and the optional 1.20 version but neither seem to be working. I've searched all over the site and have tried everything they suggested (clear cache, uninstall, reinstall, system restore, everything!) but everytime I try to start the launcher, a black window comes up with the blue bar across top w/ SL v. X in the left corner, then the crash reporter comes up. All in all, I've probably followed the "fix" steps about 8 times and nothing seems to be working.
WinXP Home SP2 GeForce 7300 GT 512 MB 30Gb free on HD Intel P4 2.50 Ghz processor
If anyone can help me I'd greatly appreciate it. Let me know if you need any other information. Thanks!
[edit] oh yeah, I have no firewalls up or anything, no norton or virus programs like that either.

I have a Geforce Go 7300. I's not working at all, and has been working before. I don't think anythign has updated.

I'm using a PC. I've never run SL before, this is my first time trying to get it running. I've burned my eyes out reading all the different threads (read yours too) about people having similar or the same problem, but all I hear from LL is "fixed" "fixed" and it's really NOT fixed

Morgan - As stated right above your post, I don't have laptop, is PC ^_^ I do have a Toshiba though and know that some retail sellers offer different, computer specific, drivers than going to manufacturer. So, for anyone else, my computer is a self built desktop PC ^_^

Try this driver: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_162.67.htmlIt's not the latest for your card I know. But sometines due the almost infinite combinations of cards/MB's/CPU's the latest is not necessarily the best to use. My system for example works almost perfectly with my nVideo version 169.25 when the latest is 175.xx.......GF 8600GT. Also, please make sure you uninstall the driver you are replaceing before installing the one you want. You would be surprised to know how many times not doing that corrupts the driver you want. And, naturally, it does not fix yiour problem.

I can build you a working PC blindfolded, but not the greatest whiz at drivers... Thats all I need to do right? [edit] Hmm, just went to that website Peggy, its for Quadro vid cards... not sure that'd work for my GeForce 7300 GT ? Where as http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_175.16_whql.html is a driver for my 7300 GT, but it looks to be the latest one...added in May this year. Not doubting ya Peggy, just wanting to make sure I have correct one I play CoD4 and BF2 as well, so messing up vid card would be a def. bad thing hehe

my procedure: find the driver and download it to my hard drive go to add/remove and uninstall the driver I'm replacing (actually, I uninstall all drivers for whatever device I'm updating). Windows wants you to restart....do it You'll get a "found new hardware" dialog.....close it then run the downloaded driver installation And after doing all that you will probably have to rearrange you desktop because Windows picked up some generic driver so you can see anthing at some ridiculously stupid resolution. Hope that helps. edit.............scroll down to see the forceware for you card. It's 169 point something.

I did a google search for "ForceWare Release 169" and found the Dec, 07 release for my 7300 GT. I'll download that driver right away and follow your directions. Will post back here if it helps ^_^

@Morgan
I'm not sure if that'd work or not Morgan, I'm more of a hardware guy =\
@Peggy
Well, I've followed your steps, uninstalled old driver > reboot > install new driver > reboot and still getting the same crash before I even get to login =\ Thank you for trying Peggy, if you can think of anything else (or if anyone else can think of anything else lol) I'm willing to listen!

Problem solved (for me)! I did Peggy's steps. I uninstalled the driver, and had a failsafe backed up on an external drive just in case (of course, I still got yelled at for uninstalling an all-important driver only folllowing someone else's directions). I then rebooted and installed the lastest one from the manufacturer's website. It worked like a charm! Thanks peggy!

I'm glad it worked for you Morgan... wish it would work for me!!! I'm beginning to think LL uploaded a buggy installer just for me Still keeping my fingers crossed for someone to come along and see this thread and post a solution =\ (And before anyone suggests it, i'm NOT reformatting my HD...if it comes to that SL can bugger off first lol) I've been reading posts about a "different viewer" but seeing as I've yet to get past the first screen, I'm not quite sure what a "viewer" is? The only part of SL I can get to is clicking the desktop icon just after installing the program. If anyone has any suggestions, would greatly appreciate it ^_^

The viewer is the SL program............like a browser if you want to think of it that way. I really don't think another viewer will work for you either. It's something in your configuration that is crashing you before you get to the log in screen..........I'm afraid any viewer you use will do the same.
Are there any error messages that pop up when you crash?

No real error message. I get the "Second Life has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." message box with "Debug" on the left and "Close" on the right. I've tried the Debug button (its actually worked for me in the past with another program) but it didn't do anything.
Here's the error coding mumbo jumbo it gives me:
Error signature AppName: secondlife.exe AppVer: 1.19.1.4 ModName: unknown ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 2e676e69
(then I click the link "to view technical information about the error report" and get the following)
D'oh, wont let me copy and paste it here.. It's all Exception Information stuffs, System Information, Module 1 and so on.
It does say:
"The following files will be included in this error report: c:\Documents and Settings\<NAME>\Temp\9df3_appcompat.txt"
if that's any help =\

Hi Tovya,
Sorry, saw your posting in my blog only now and Henri already answered.
For updated/modified drivers and test reports for all kind of applications and configurations I suggest to take a look at the forum of laptopvideo2go.com. I use a (bit older) 173.68 with a 8600GT. Good luck.

Ok guys, I've managed to view the login screen for the first time using Boy Lane's Cool Viewer. The ongoing discussion for my problems continue on Boy Lane's blog here: http://my.opera.com/boylane/blog/cool-viewer-1-20-12-0-with-restrainedlife-1-11-5?cid=5621599#comment5621599I believe I've found my problem with quite possibly all my SL issues...Quicktime will not work on my PC for whatever reason. I may eventually do a reformat and fresh install Quicktime to see if that will work, but anyway, there you have it.

Found somewhat of a fix for my issue. Quicktime was causing my problems in some aspect (still haven't figured out why I got the startup crash using SL viewer) with Cool Viewer... http://forums.techguy.org/all-other-software/461336-can-t-uninstall-quicktime.htmlWill give you a good walkthrough on how to completely 100% take QT out of your computer. After following their steps I was able to login to SL via Cool Viewer, although the lag was horrible lol but at least I'm in! Best of luck to everyone!!

I'm glad you got your problem fixed, Tovya. Seems I've heard about issues with Quicktime a while back....it think it was during that period of time while Quicktime had a security flaw. I haven't heard of the problem since that time though. Maybe you need the newest Quicktime is all that will fix it so you can view video in world. Have fun.

I may do so later to get iTunes working (iTunes alternatives really can't compare) but for SL purposes, I did not need QT apparently lol. Thank you very much for your help =)
