I had a friend check his Lost Furrest fox avatar. and he tells me the socks and gloves did have a generic name in his set, though they were properly textured. The shape was supposed to have been 'Fox Shape', not 'New Shape'. Now, since he has the male version and a differnt color, there may be slight differences. For example, I know mine has a 'smile' feature that his lacks. But the fact remains that until I went through all the gyrations I cited above, the textures on several 'clothing items' that are integral parts of my avatar got trashed. Fortunately, it seems I was able to fix it.
To clarify the sequence of events, now that I have calmed down a bit:
I had been wearing the Lost Furrest avatar and a very simple skirt/shirt combo that I made, plus a pair of wings that Starchaser Webb had made for me. I had been playing normally, and had logged off for a dinner break.
I logged back on 30 minutes later, and got a repeated login failure. I have a settings text file in my config to pre-enter my avvie name and password, so I took that out and tried again.
When I logged in, I was informed of the 'optional' new update. I downloaded it. NOTE: The dialog for the optional update had been preventing my automatic login...
After installing the update, I logged in, and was treated to ten minutes of an invisible avatar (only my attachments showing, like my tail and prim hair).
As soon as my body showed up, but before all the textures had rezzed, I went into mouselook and walked out of my home, to greet friends.
I had just started talking to them, when I got the error message that my socks had been replaced by generic versions.
I went into my inventory, and saw that a generic pair of socks was highlighted, loose in my clothing inventory. I looked in the outfit folder for the Avatar, and saw that the socks there (which give the darker fur markings for my lower legs) were completely missing.
I opened a second avatar folder for my Lost Furrest avatar, found the socks there, copied them into the other avatar folder, and put them on. These had the proper texture... And I am fairly sure that they had the proper name.
In the next 20 minutes or so, one of the people I was talking to, Starchaser Webb, claimed he was having computer problems and had to log off. He did, but I kept seeing chat from him for several minutes, and several of my own chat messages and messages from others were arriving out of sequence, or after someone else left. I logged out fairly soon... The next day he told me that he had also been having severe chat sequencing issues, where his chat messages didn't show for him until much later than when he posted them.
The next time I logged on, I checked my inventory, and discovered the incorrect item names in my Lost Furrest av folders. (See my 'explitives" post, above). Based on later tests, it is possible that the misnamed items mat have been that way from the beginning, but I was pretty scared by then, and not going to take a chance...
My subsequent posts say what happened after that.
Bottom line is that I don't trust my inventory's safety now, but so far I seem to be OK...

I've bought some things in the last few days and haven't had issues so far.. A friend gave me an outfit the other day, a dress from House of Shaea, and while putting it on, the skirt disappeared with the 'item can't be found in the database' message, and it was the ugly default skirt with no texture. I relogged, cleared cache, etc, and finally just went and rebought the skirt. No big deal to me, though I hope this problem is fixed soon. I have some one of a kind items I'd hate to see poof, and I'm hesitant now about my inventory and changing things.
I did file a bug report when this happened.

In the sequence that Ceera mentioned with her login experiences last night, a few observations from my side.
Two others that I was with apparently saw and responded to Ceera before I was able to see her at all. She was standing next to me, but not visible to me.
Time sequencing was completely out of whack. My own talk was greatly delayed, and was coming up out of sequence. Other people's chatter seemed badly out of sync with their actions, as well. For example, Ceera's exclamation that her inventory was messed up came several minutes after the animation where she was trying to fix her appearance.
This was in the Magenta sim that this happened. Not a sim where I have experienced any great deal of lag before. Ceera and Mariko and their household keep their area pretty clean as far as lag-inducing stuff goes.

We're working on a new feature which should help minimize this in the future over at SLBoutique.com. More details when we've dotted some i's and crossed some t's. Sorry to hear about the problem cropping up again.

-Flip

Inventory clothing replaced by default clothing
03-22-2006 08:25
I have had a similar bug where a short skirt in a set was replaced by another skirt in my inventory. All other clothing appears correct including a long version in the same outfit. If I selected "appearance" the original/correct skirt appeared on my avi but reverted to the incorrect copy on close/exit. I tried clearing the cache, spoke to various helpers/mentors but could not find an answer. The incorrect version is seen by everyone in world as well.
I contacted the creator who kindly supplied another copy of the whole outfit. However in the new copy the same short skirt again appeared as the incorrect version. Everything else in the outfit was correct. So I assume the first copy had not been corrupted.
I then tried opening appearance adjusting the faulty skirt (by slightly changing the length) and then saving the amended version and it has now reverted to the correct version.
Hope this helps
luv Jonty

That's very interesting Jonty! I recently had a customer who bought one of my Cheongsam dresses. The top worked fine for her, but the skirt would only partially rez, and this was how she saw it as well as how everyone else saw it. None of my other customers were having trouble with that dress, nor was I with my personal copy.
I showed up wearing the same dress, and my copy was fine, on me. We both agreed that what I was wearing looked normal, while what she was wearing was corrupred in the skirt. I gave her a new copy of the skirt, duplicated fom the one that I was wearing, and it failed the same way on her. Apparently she had corrupted UUID information in her inventory. We tried about everything I can imagine except Jonty's trick, including deleting and replacing it, clearing cache, restarting, changing groups... Finally I re-imported the skirt texture, creating a duplicate texture with a new UUID, made a new skirt with that new texture, and gave that to her. The newly-made skirt worked fine. And since it was from the same master file as the original, everything matched the rest of the outfit.

Same thing happened to me two days ago. Live support said to file a bug report, then IM Kona Linden - master of lost inventory - with the ticket number and the items. I lost the jacket and pants for one of Mischief's designs. They were replaced with "new jacket" "new pants"

I remember something like this happening to me when i first joined SL. Back then when you got killed in a damage zone your avatar would completely mess up. like the randomizer went off. It even moved attachments. Well i had some nice clothes and passed through a damage parcel and got killed. When i was TPed home my avatar had changed genders and my clothing messed up. The textures didnt change but the ajustments did. After i fixed them i had full permissions when i shouldnt have. o.o I am so thankful that death isnt so like that anymore. All these months i refused to go to a damage area using a expensive avatar in fear it would be destroyed.
Also this exact problem happened to me in the preview grid. I didnt care about it since it was preview. I didnt think to report it, but i should have. When i loged in i had a lot of messages telling me couldnt find this and that. But i didnt notice my av looking default.

I believe I have fixed this in 1.9.0(1 , due this Wednesday. I cannot be sure, because I can't reproduce the problem in the office. If the system can't find your clothing item for some reason, it will make a new blank one. It used to overwrite the existing item -- bad bad bad. It now keeps the existing one, and creates a blank one in the Lost and Found folder. Since I can't reproduce it, I don't know if the original item will still work. Please post here after 1.9.0 (1 goes out and let me know. James

I reported this as a bug several days ago, as well as posted a message here, and in the answers forum, and by email to support....
I have also experianced this in a somewhat unusual way.
Not only do I have specific objects missing totally....
I have had several items of clothing APPEAR in my inventory, which appear to be clones of clothing items I was wearing but which have different names, and also new clothing objects appear that I have never owned before (but which are being reported in the properties as being made by people who I have purchased clothing from before)
-----
I just finally reached the end of this thread and am horrified by the post above mine basically telling me that objects of clothing were overwritten on the server.... I'm glad someone found the problem and hopefully fixed it, but absolutely livid that some of my items of clothing which were custom made and are totally irreplaceable have no hope of being recovered
