I haven't seen anyone post about this yet, so I'm wondering if anyone is having an issue where you put on an item of clothing and the system tells you it cannot find that object in the database, then replaces it with a "new" default clothing item. For example, I put on a jacket from Nyte n' Day. I took it off to try on another jacket, then put the Nyte one back on. Get the message "item not found in database" and then another message that the item/body part was replaced. Then I was wearing a plain white default jacket as if I were trying to make a jacket in the Appearances mode. When I looked in my inventory to find the Nyte jacket, it had been completely replaced with the "new jacket". No trace of the Nyte jacket anywhere in my inventory. This has happened three times since the update, and now I'm scared to change clothes in case I lose more (please help Lindens, I'm currently dressed as a leprechaun fairy, and I really don't want to spend the rest of my days like this)

Have you tried logging off and logging on again? Or clearing cache between logins?
It sounds like the cached info for your clothing item has become corrupted.

I just experienced this problem a minute ago; I relogged and the clothing is still missing.

Three bug reports filed. I just heard back about a bug report I filed 9 weeks ago on something completely different...

My clothes are gone!
03-17-2006 14:21
This happened to me last night just as they announced the rolling update. I lost a brand new skirt and shirt. I logged in about 4 hours later and they were still gone, having been replaced by untextured default clothing.

After clearing a cache and filing a bug report, realistically, when something gets lost like this, also seek out the maker of the clothing and let 'em know what happened.
Also test with the default clothes in your LIBRARY folder and see what happens with those, or any freebie clothes you might have that are easily copiable and replaceable.

This actually isn't just happening with clothing. I had a wall behind my SLingo board, rezzed and made on Wednesday after the update. I returned to my land and the wall was not longer a really cool, irreplaceable water texture, but almost like an ad for Owenimations! It seemed to steal a texture from INSIDE my chim and place it as that texture.
Now the texture is loading as this sign deal. :/ (I did change the texture, but darn it, it isn't as cool!)

I don't mean to sound sarcastic but, just curious, realistically, what is the clothing maker supposed to do about it?

From: vivi Odets I don't mean to sound sarcastic but, just curious, realistically, what is the clothing maker supposed to do about it? Not sarcastic at all! Totally heartfelt and understood. The clothing maker can: - provide a replacement if they want--it's their choice
- check if their own originals are intact
- also send a bug report letting us know of content loss or post here in the SL Forums, just in case there's any patterns to what's going on... so we can prevent further loss and do our best to restore the missing things
And I must state, empathically, NO it is not any content creator's fault. I know this comes up time and time again. And content loss totally sucks, I've personally known a lot of technical expert Lindens to really go that extra mile and dig deep into the system when it appeared all hope was gone. I am a consumer-type and I've had those "item not found in database" problems too, dating back to a year ago. It is not a new problem. It happened with some very beautiful clothes, and I'm just thankful the maker was gracious enough to send me a new set while I gathered all the other data I could in hopes of it NOT happening again. Seola that is really weird--have you found any way to repro that, or Before/After pictures or any more info?

My thought is that it's happening only with mod clothing. I bought the Shamrock Fairy set and when I put on the clothing, only the two items in the set that are moddable were changed to non-textured clothing. I was able to replace the Nyte'n'Day jacket (so I'm guessing the UUID is okay in the asset server?), and I'm hoping the maker of the Shamrock Fairy set will let me buy the shirt and stockings to replace what was lost.

Best of hope with that, Sans. Let us know how it goes. In case you find a way how to do it over and over (and it keeps eating your clothes) we'll want to get a lock on it for sure, so do post.

I've lost two parts of clothing with this bug so far in two days time. Both time was when logging in and the "you clothing are still downloading..." box appearing and me being invisible for a while. Then after a some time my AV showed up and the "item not found in database" error showed up and the said items were replaced with the default values for new clothing and renamed the items "new <clothing part>". Luckily they were not expensive ones so I could buy replacements for them without the need to bug the creator with something that isn't their fault... But I am afraid to even try wearing one of the more expensive outfits and loose them. Not all content creators are easy to reach in game and if this escalates they will be swamped with people wanting replacements.
With some items being no transfer you can't even give the creator the broken item back to prove it is really broken.
This is something that needs to put high on the priority list on bug fixes as apparently the database is losing information... who knows what information is lost next time?

GAHHH!
I just got hit with this, and it was after downloading today's optional new client.
Fortunately, I just lost the 'socks' from my furry avatar, and I had a back up copy to replace it from. But I think I shall not wear any of my no-copy clothes again until this is fixed!

** Unprintable Cursing Goes Here **

Insert a stream of explitives here.
In several languages.
I logged back in, and discovered that my new Lost Furrest Red Fox avatar is TRASHED. Both the copy I was wearing when the glitch hit me, and the one I thought was a safe backup, have become corrupted, and are missing key parts, replaced with these ****** "generic" replacements. The blasted things say that they are created by the person who made the avatar, but they have no name or texture info!
I still have a boxed copy of the avatar, but until this is FIXED, I'm not logging on again with anything but a generic freebie avatar and free clothes! I will NOT risk stuff I paid for to this stupid bug!
To all people waiting for me to build or design textures or design clothes, you're SOL until this is fixed. I'm not making ANYTHING new until I know it won't get trashed!
One very angry customer here, and two bug reports filed.

I got hit with this once 2 days ago. Luckily it was only 1 item (a shoe base that could actually recreate), but it does make me afraid. I downloaded the new client with hopes this had fixed but it sounds like it hasn't.

No it's not just mod clothing cause it happened to me and it was stuff I made in one instance that was definitely no mod. Torley: It happened to me when I logged in naked, and because of the stupid bug (still not fixed) where you come back in a totally different location than your actual "last location" I had to change quickly (before the inventory database was updated and before my avatar became visible (another unfixed bug from 1.9). No offense but this is completely Lindens fault. 100% If not for those bugs I would not have lost the items of clothing. And asking the maker to give you a free replacement is just not on. The one that I made myself I don't care about, but the other item is from an expensive outfit of clothing by Torrid Midnight. It's not fair to ask us to ask the designer for an entire new outfit because the underpants were lost, yet the outfit is not very useable without them. this is not the designers fault so why should they have to deal with it? This thing needs to be fixed right away, or at least *tell* people about it. I never realised I had *permanently* lost this stuff until I read this thread. Why not own up to it and put up a notice saying "don't change clothes for five or ten minutes after logging on," if that's the problem.

Counts slowly to 100.
No, to 1000...
* I changed to a generic avatar and free clothes. * I quit and cleared cache, and restarted. * I emptied my trash * I threw away all unpacked versions of my Lost Furrest red fox avatar. * I threw away all copies of the clothes she had on. * I emptied trash again. * I quit, cleared cache, quit, and restarted. * Finally, I dared to unpack a fresh copy of the avatar.
It still had several items named 'New Socks', 'New Shape', and the like. But the textures were back. I renamed them, and so far, it looks like all the parts are present and properly textured.
For now.
OK. Breathe.

By the way, I hadn't 'changed clothes' in that first ten minutes. I was still rezzing. It just stole what I had been wearing when I logged off, the last time.
And speaking as a clothing designer, I'll happily replace any outfit someone loses to this bug, or for any other reason. Most of my clothes are +Copy, +Mod, and no transfer. But I do sell a few no-copy outfits. I have records of who bought clothes from me, and what they spent. It doesn't tell me precisely which outfit, but if I have some idea that they are a customer, it's just a matter of a few moments of my time to replace the clothes. Heck, it's only bits and electrons...

From: Ceera Murakami By the way, I hadn't 'changed clothes' in that first ten minutes. I was still rezzing. ... Damn! I was hoping it was the unusual behaviour forced on me by the other two bugs. This is worse in that it could simply happen at any time. I too would replace stuff that people lost, but I think their attitude towards this *serious* bug is a little too cavalier for me. I can't believe they have already updated the client without fixing the three biggest bugs. All three are the kind of bugs that any normal developer wouldn't let the employees go home until they fixed, let alone leaving it for possibly days to figure out. Suppose your showing SL to a prospective client, and you log in (like I have for days) at 400 metres falling through the air, in the dark, over someplace you don't even know where it is. After smacking into the ground you pick yourself up and notice that you are a walking hairdo because you body hasn't materialized yet. So you try to put on some fancy clothes, and they are deleted before your eyes and replaced with ... white long johns. Did I forget to mention that everyone you run into during this period will see you as "ruth"?? How impressive it will be for that client looking over your shoulder. Especially when you tell them its been like this for days and the developers are all home snug in their beds thinking this is okay.
