From: Kitsune Basiat Dell laptops seem to be incompatable with SL. I have one and the last time Dell released a driver update for it's custom Nvidia card was 2 years ago. My internet connection goes dead every couple of minutes when playing SL, and the Lindens' solution is to update my driver. I've tried forceware, but it just leads to system instability. You should not use the nVidia forcewares with DELL laptops. I've used several DELL laptops/notebooks and have found them all to be pretty good reliable workhorses. If the last time DELL released a driver for its graphics card was two years ago, I'd suggest getting a new one. Preferrably an XPS notebook if you can afford it - they are just a tad pricy.  |

SL runs ok-ish on my Toshiba Satellite notebook. It's ram's a bit lacking along with the processor so I only get about 5fps, but it works pretty decentely for what I do on Second Life  . Personally though I'd recommend a good high-end DELL one or the Toshiba Qosimo. |

At the moment it seems to be more then a driver problem with some. firewalls are a problm as LLabs has remarked at. A few lindens i believe jesse linden has pointed this out.

Issues logging in

I can't log in as my avatar and I can't log in as my husband's avatar, but my husband logged in as his avatar and didn't have any problems at all. I then logged in as his avatar and everything seemed fine. I logged out and logged back in with his avatar and was able to see the avatar and the surroundings, but couldn't move. Then, when I logged in with his avatar again, it was transparent, save for the attachments--and I couldn't move. Still can't load my avatar. When I pull up the buddy list, I see "waiting..." and when I do a search for events, places or popular places, it says "searching...". I tried contacting Live Help, but my message didn't go through.
I have uninstalled and re-installed my nVidia driver.
What gives?
