So I believe I found a temporary solution. It works maybe about 8 times out of 10. When you lose your voice, go into the preferences menu and unclick the "Enable Voice" box. Now wait about five minutes or so (go build something, play some Zyngo, etc lol). After about five minutes or so go back in and click the box again and then save your preferences. Voice should reconnect after being disconnected for so long and you should get voice back. But be careful, you can lose it just as easily as it comes back.

Just remember, this is not a permanent solution!

still didn't work , on everything else voice work , msn , yahoo , athor games , ect except sl and i dunno what the prob is , so if anyone can help me pls do :) ow and i'm on the 1.22.11 version

Yes it works on all the other programs because the only reason it doesn't work on SL is not the fault of your microphone, but Second Life itself. It could be a SLVoice.exe faulty connection or possibly something even more simple than that.

Workaround
04-02-2009 11:24
I get this a lot but I've found a way to kick start it back into action.

Disable voice in the preferences (uncheck the enable voice box) and click apply, then open your task manager and end the slvoice.exe process. Re-enable voice in the preferences and it should cough and splutter back to life.

For some reason after doing this every time it conks out, it gradually becomes a little more stable and breaks less often.

The jira I created on it is here: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-12554

Weirdly of all the problems it seems to be the only one of all of them to be appended to the fix list for 1.23 at this time: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR/fixforversion/10433

I tried what you suggested Ponk and it's a no go... still no voice chat working when i try that method... I did it repeatedly all day and it never once worked. Roughly 20 tries?

Ponk, thank you for the suggestion, but sadly it has only worked once out of about 60 times.

Sorry to hear that, I guess I'm one of the more lucky ones.

Sometimes it takes a few minutes for it to reconnect for me (usually when least expected) so don't give up.

I have yet to find anything. Not even my little temporary fixes work anymore. Voice just works whenever it feels like it.

EDIT: Possible solution found. Not sure if it'll work every time, but I know it has worked once and I'm too afraid to log out again lol. I was looking around online and noticed something about a port that the viewer uses to communicate with the voice. So I unblocked the port, and ta-da, life is good.

By default, the SecondLife viewer uses IP address 127.0.0.1 (localhost), port 44124 to communicate with SLVoice, the voice client gateway. :D

how exactly did you unblock this port? Please explain more fully and maybe it will work for me. I actually discovered if i take my router off of my network and use only my dsl modem directly to my desktop pc that Voice works everytime in SL.. but I have to have the linksys router in so I can use my other computer online.

Ok to unblock a port, you need to go to your router's main page, usually 192.168.1.1, in your browser. The easiest way to check this is go to this page and it'll tell you how if you find your router in the router list.

As an update, forwarding this port COMPLETELY solved my issue. I've had voice all day everyday for about a week now and I'm loving it.

Does anyone have a solution where you don't have a router? I'm hooked straight to the cable modem and I can't get voice.

Voice keeps breaking up
07-08-2009 14:22
i realy wonder why my voice keeps breaking up when i use windows xp.

When i use Skype in XP i can even do group voice for hours and run SL simultaniously
when i run Ubuntu linux with Alsa sound, it runs smooth aswell.

BUT

when i want to use SL voice under windows XP, it's totaly crap
ppl cant understand me at all when i talk.
so all i can do is listen and type back.

ports are open
Closed as many apps as possible
and still works like *BEEP*

and that while i have a 8 MB down 1 MB up line on DSL

Any sugestions or better a sollution would be more then welcome
