My SL voice only works ONCE EVERY DAY. Needless to say, WHY? The first time I log on everday, it works fine, and it's come to a stupid conclusion. I had to turn off my afk timer so I couldn't get logged out of SL, but I still get logged out. SO, can someone PLEASE tell me how to fix this? I won't even connect to in-world chat after I get logged off of my first log. But on my first log, everytime, everything is prestine. Or is there atleast a way to have it set to where there is no way I could be logged off for inactivity?

Please and THANK YOU.

I suspect some system info would be useful. XP, Vista, Mac, LInux? What version of SL?

Have you tried other versions of SL viewer?

Why not just log out if you're not using SL? Why waste the bandwidth for everone else?

Did your audio drivers change, perhaps without your knowledge via Windows Update? If so, try rolling those back to before when the problem was and see if that works.

I get the idea you might not be logging out of Vivox properly and completely, and that maybe Vivox cuts you off after a certain amount of time, or the logout process completes finally, or you turn off your computer, so after you exit SL the first time in the day, the failed logout interferes with voice when you try later that day, then the next day, either Vivox logged you out, or the defectively slow logout process finally finishes, or you turned your computer off and back on.

What happens if you restart your computer after using SL voice the first time for the day?

You might use task manager to check the process list and see if SLVoice is still running after you exit SL.

Thanks for the help. If I restart my PC, it doesn't matter for SL, crash, re-boot, even re-install won't make it work. But I'll check task manager, thanks. :) I'll get back if it's still a problem.

It didn't work, doing all kinds of stuff with the SLVoice process. Vivox isn't really a process, not that I could find. Voice still only works once-a-day. :/

We had that problem in our office -- I reinstalled the sound card drivers and it worked fine.

In preferences, voice tab, click the device button and choose your actual sound card/headphones for both mic and speakers, wait a few seconds to see if the green boxes light up as you talk. Once done, close that window.

If you do not see your devices in the drop down boxes, go into the control panel of XP and use the Sound/Audio icon, click the tabs until you find the hardware, and choose your devices and make sure they are checked as default, then run the hardware wizard to make sure they are setup and working properly.

Hopefully this will remain sticky.

Another thing to consider is bandwidth. You need between 1-1.5mbps bandwidth for sl, another 1.5-2mbps for voice, more for music and movies. If your ACTUAL bandwidth falls below those values, you may find Voice will drop first.

Open the Firewall Icon in Control Panel, Exceptions Tab, and make sure SLVoice is listed and checked, along with SecondLife.exe. You may have to check all instances of both programmes, depending on how many versions/updates you have installed. Uncheck everything else in there.

Citation needed. My average bandwidth usage with voice enabled is only about 700 kilobits. If things are rezzing, I max out closer to 1.25 megabits.

The bandwidth usage reported by the client is only SL related, the Vioce bandwidth is not reported by the client, nor is music or movie bandwidth.

I'm fully aware of this. I'm going based off what my router is saying my machine is using under those conditions.

Then you understand the dynamics of bandwidth useage. Never constant and is dependant on usage patterns.. don't speak on voice and little bandwidth being used, stand still in sl, same again. Also consider.. 1.25mbps bandwidth usage for an online game.... makes you wonder how we all coped not long ago on dialup in SL....

Open up a group IM voice window with say a dozen ppls included and watch your bandwidth.

Could I get a little more detail to work with? What sound device do you have, and what OS are you running?

Try here http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsCheck.aspx?Langid=1&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3
Although, find out the MotherBoard manufacture and go to their website for more specific versions.

http://www.sisoftware.co.uk/ this will help you find out more info about your system.

Reinstalling the drivers didn't work. I'm not sure if this will help with anything, but just to throw this out there: When voice ISN'T working it just will keep saying, Connecting To In World Voice Chat, Connected. It never says disconnected. Not sure if that helps much. Any other suggestions to my problem though? :/

If you haven't filed a problem report at jira.secondlife.com, it might be time to do so.

Did you try this from my previous post?

Yes.

I have done this. But not the hardware wizard part. I'll try the hardware wizard thing, if I can find it. Assuming that it's just like Install Wizard and stuff. I'll get back to you on that.

In start, control panel, sound and audio icon, voice tab, click the 'test hardware' button. That is the wizard for XP.

In SL.
In edit, preferences, voice tab, click the 'device' button, choose the same hardware devices, and wait while it configures the devices, signified by the green boxes that will appear next to the volume control.
