Title says it all. The Login zips through very fast until it reaches about half way and gets to "Waiting for region handshake". It then hangs for a bit and drops me back to the login screen with this message:

"Unable to connect. Login packet never recived by login server.

Please try again in a few minutes, or click Help for advice and a link to the system status webpage."

I've done this more then a few times and still the same thing...help please?

What do you mean by "recreate"? As in redo it from scratch? I'm afraid I can't do that...

Don't get confused when I say "wireless", my entire house is in hard-lines, but my actual connection is wireless. Theres not much to recreate between my antenna and the tower in town.

Being an ISP tech, i knew what you meant by "wireless". You can recreate your wireless connection from your PC to the modem. If you don't know how, your ISP will gladly help :)

good luck!

Well, thing is, its not a modem apparently. They keep refering to it as a radio...I'm not exactly sure why. I'm pretty tech savvy on the hardware side, but I never bothered to dive too deep into internet/networking stuff. Probably should have in tech school, though. :p I'll call my ISP about it, but can you throw me some more details? That way I don't just go on and say "Uhhh this random person said I needed to recreat my connection for a game..."

without knowing your OS (assuming Windows) and not knowing if it's XP Pro/Home or 2K, kinda hard to just toss stuff out.

In your control panel you should have a wireless connection option (pending OS) ... you can recreate it there.

'radio' ... what sort of net connection do you have? Not even satellite is referred to a 'radio'. Modem or a Receiver (cable/dsl connection or satellite respectfully), most new modems now have routers built right in (speedstream, etc)

If you don't feel comfy, then ring up your ISP. Should take all of 5 mins to recreate it (pending any issues).

Now i'm not saying this is the issue, but more times with a wireless connection a recreation will help. You can also see if someone's tapped your signal and eating your bandwidth

Santon, welcome to online gaming. Nothing is solid and everything is subject to change at any moment. Take this time to do other things that SL has taken precident over.

It will be up as soon as they can, that's all they can do. No one nor anything can speed it up. Getting upset and ranting in the forum will only do one thing: stress you out. No one else will feel it, they have their own.

I just called up someone who used to use this company. They actually use radio signals instead of the usual 802.11g (I believe) or WiFi/WiMAX. Odd, yes, but it works...well, mostly.

I'm running Windows 2000 Pro...and yeah, it doesn't have a wireless option here. It does in XP, but I have a small vendeta against XP...that and I just don't own a copy.

I doubt anyone is eating my bandwidth, for one the signal is locked to this exact equipment..and two, I doubt anyone in this rural little town knows how to wardrive.

Question: What would recreating do? and how would it help with the exact problem of "waiting for region handshake"?

I called the ISP, they said they can't "recreate" the connection, they had me do a few different things instead and nothing on that side helped...

I think I've figured out why this is happening. With a wireless connection, the source sends packets out of order in order to "speed up" the connection. This is fine for surfing and downloading, but for gaming its a killing...its also why SL tells me it never got the login packet, because its so out of order. Thing is, how do I fix this?

Same here - and mind you, it is been three different connections through 3 different providers and systems (and two continents).

The supposed help button does not load anything, so there is no way in telling what might be the problem. And sorry no, I never heard the term 'recreate' in this context ever.

And additionally, this is as well a problem going through a WIRED connection.

Just moved to utah and got wireless internet (stupid me) and get the same error messages as you guys "waiting for region handshake" etc.

I'm just gonna switch to COMCAST cable and get rid of this wireless soon as I can manage it. (its wirelessbeehive.com)

I never had trouble with Time-Warner cable in Texas, just this wireless monster. Good luck to everyone.

I'm having this problem aswell, i'm on NTL Broadband, but I have my own wireless router with all the relevant ports (as outlined in the knowledgebase) forwarded, yet I still get stuck at the 'Waiting for region handshake', have absolutley no idea what to do now, if anybody has any suggestions!

I think you've hit the nail on the head. The only problem is that I don't know of any way to fix it. The only advice that I can give is to use an ISP that delivers packets in the correct order.

Cable broadband works flawlessly. Highly recommended. DSL works although the highest speed DSL connections seem to have the same packet ordering problem that you're having.

1.5 Mps DSL worked okay for me. 6 Mps DSL was unusable with SL because of packet ordering issues.

5 Mps Cable works flawlessly for me.
