Quite a few, hoping now that the weekend is over, someone will look at them.

Hmm, feniks, this sounds very odd.

Does your avatar incorrectly appear in the "away" state?

Does the dialog that appears look the same as the away-for-too-long dialog "You have been idle for more than <hippo> minutes."?

Negative on that. Just going about your merry way, no lag, no packet loss, editing, flying, walking, standing still and chatting, and then boom "You have been logged out of Second Life by the system. You may attempt to log back in."

Several others have told me in game they have the same trouble, haven't been able to talk them into posting here though.

ditto on si's statement.

I have asked my isp if there is anyway we can monitor my connection to help rule that out.

what to do, what to do....

Well it hasn't gone away and it is not any better.
I was logged out at least 3 times today, could be 4, I stopped counting...

One funny thing tho, I was teaching a class and got logged out (very annoying because I am far away when I log back in and my inventory isn't downloaded yet, so I have to fly back, can't transport to save time...) So anyway when I get back to the class, small class, only two there at the time, one person tells me they were logged out too, and the other, nothing happened.

So what I would really like to know is what can I do from my end to help track down what the hell is going on...?

I am all for fixinig this!

Ok well I contacted my isp and asked them for help.

They suggest a constant ping to yourself to check the nic.
They also suggest a constant ping to SL to see if it is "out there". They also suggest replacing the nic. These are the same things I would suggest if I was them. I was planning on making a trip to the nic card store tonight already.

I can do this, but since it is not just me, I do not think is it my nic, UNLESS we all have the same nic specs. Don't have them off the top of my head, I will post them later on.

Next time it happens record the exact time and send me an email via andrew@lindenlab.com and I'll dig into the logs to see what I can figure out.

Will do. If you keep logs far enough back, on the 2nd page I was noting every time it happened along with what sim I was in. Will get my emails ready though :P

si -

I got closer to the cause, but not all the way. It appears that your client's connection our "userserver" is timing out. Basically, this means that several sequential pings from our userserver went unacknowledged. Why, I don't know ==> I put Phoenix on the case.

I was curious about your configuration. Could you fill in some of the blanks below, please? :

Operating system = ________________
Network connection = _(DSL or Cable?)_
video FPS = ___________

Thanks

OS = Windows XP Professional
Network Connect = DSL
Video FPS = erhm.. well.. am I at Skee's or not? 19-29fps usually.

I can go as technically detailed as you like on this one. System is non-NAT, public IP address behind an IPF packet filter system which allows stateful connections fully. If you have any lists of ports which you'd like me to have open fully both directions, let me know.

Sorry I haven't been keeping up on this thread - I've had my head blissfully buried in new features.

But on to the meat of your problem since getting logged out is no fun. The next time you get logged out (for this reason), copy your viewer log out of "documents and settings/<user>/application data/secondlife/logs/secondlife.log" into a safe location and then IM me in world.

logs sent
07-14-2003 09:35
Ok so it happened a few times this week end. I send two logs in to you Phoenix L., one behind my router doing nat and on right on the internet (ick).

It is the exact same thing that happens when a sim crashes. I was in a class in perry on Sunday and I got logged out. Same message, same experience. When I logged back in, the sim had crashed.

Is there anything I can do from my end to test what it could possibly be other than a constant ping?

thanks,
