Ihave a hatred for Windows Vista, but my SL works fine, well except for clearing the cache and updating to new views everything just goes down hill from there

2 week old Vista Pro, XPS lap top, 8600m Nvidia out of the box, no updates nada (until this wek and still good) ran 1.21 and the RC even better , no crashes ran tonight on Wi-fi DSl while (2) desk tops ran full RC clients, for 6 hours I was very weary of vista but have to say I like it. and I never wanted to leave Win98! BVUt with a good amount of RAMM this n a lap top, almost puts my Tower to shame! I don't get all the crashing, never have had much, besides the first few releases of RC's or the old First looks ... heck I can run my old Compaq AMD 3200 Nvidia FX5200(AGPx 128k 2GB Ramm and a 90% full 320 GB HD for 12 hours no crash and as well TP ,move, fly, DRIVE A CAR!, buy, dance etc... and a white box Pent.4 with some odd Nvidia 128k shared memory with 1 GB Ramm.. its older than the FX series ... something like 1250 ? I have no clue, all I know is it will run as well everything set to min but no crash, runs an alt no crash TP, dance, chat, VOICE, does it all( all be it lagged as you can imagine!) but no crash or lock up have ran it 24 hours + and it gets used while I and the wife are on as well! so on a crap DSL line 3-4 Clients unning sharing 6000-9000kbs DSL line bandwidth, none of the m crash, (we were both on as well as one alt with a friend, yesterday from 1 pm SLT until 3 am SLT!!! not one re boot re start or crash, or issue.... I blame all these troubles on cable internet! (I have no clue, but I sure don't see how even Frankenstein white box never has an issue and your new puters do? maybe someone can enlighten me??? really, let me know what NOT to buy next? ( oh and the Compaq.. its running Vista Home a OEM disk as well!)

From: Coco McCullough I am still using Windows XP with the service pack 3 and I cannot see any reason why I should get the Vista, I dont have any crashes, no troubles at all here. All my games run pretty well :9 because Vista is "more secure" more flash, and eats more ram and hard drive space! (not a fan of vista either, 4gb to make it feel decient) From: Syuri Parnes Hi All
I posted a thread elsewhere but have just seen this which is on the same lines.
My computer is only a month or so old and comes with Vista Home Basic and a rather basic graphics card that would not support SL. We replaced the graphics card to Nvidia 8500GT and unfortunately since then my computer has increased in its crash time.
It initially started to come up with just SL crashing stating device driver conflict but then of late has actually started to crash the entire computer.
We have tried to install updates and latest version but I was already pretty much on that, so we have had a go and installing an older version but again still crashing.
My initial thought is that either the video card was not installed correctly or we should have installed the video card and then reinstalled vista so that is recognised the video card.
Does anyone have any suggestions. 8500 is an unstable card, but the newest drivers have worked fine for me on an 8400GS
