He said he can`t view movies with quick time The film I sent him is viewed with quicktime. If he saw it at all on his computer then his quicktime is fine. The URLs he is trying to view are broken. _____________________

The film I sent him is viewed with quicktime. If he saw it at all on his computer then his quicktime is fine. The URLs he is trying to view are broken. I understood that part, but with all the problems occuring withthe Quick Time patchs that was for safey reasons. It was better off going thru support to find out his problem. lets see if what the support said fixes his problem. Usagi |

he needs to do what Lias recommended, go to the SL store he bought the films from (the retailer) and ask for an update....

The people talking about movies and such are missing the point entirely and only making things more confusing. It's got nothing to do with URLS. There is something wrong with Second Life and Quicktime. The fact that he can watch something using Quicktime outside of SL proves this. I myself have the same issue, as I can use Quicktime perfectly fine outside of SL. However, inside SL, Quicktime doesn't work properly. This has nothing to do with where the content is coming from. This is an issue that needs to be addressed by the Lindens themselves, as I don't believe anyone here can solve this. This seems even more the case by the people in this thread not understanding the issue at all, and continually giving bad advice. The only helpful person so far would be Usagi, who I can't blame for giving up. I'm going to start a JIRA on this issue if I can't find a similar one there already.

Sure thing, I'll have one up tomorrow, I couldn't find anything, but I've been busy working on things in SL. I was testing the issue, trying different things yesterday, none of them worked. The worst part is, unless MANY people site this as an issue, it won't get fixed. They are only after bugs that effect everyone, one or two people isn't enough for them to even bother. Even though the JIRA will be up tomorrow (hopefully) I doubt it'll make a difference. But better than nothing, sorta...

Okay, I got the JIRA up and oddly enough one of the video streams I ran into in SL actually worked. The others, no go so far.

I managed to figure out something about this issue. Apparently it's related (in my case) to something outside of SL, which means that the Lindens won't do anything about it since it's not something that's wrong with their stuff. Regardless of the fact that Quicktime is a part of Second Life, the didn't make it so they aren't going to bother with it. So, it looks like I'm on my own to figure out what is causing the issue for me since they won't help.

When try to use Quicktime i get the following error ,:buffer over run detected.Program:C:\program files/Quicktime/quicktime plater.exe. A buffer over run has been detected. The program can not safely continue execution and must now be terminated. This means your version of Quicktime is corrupted by 8 bit compilers. These exploits compile themselves in both the buffers of any cache and the Icon desktop cache. If you load a url direct into QT player and then open Window Movie Inspector, if that window flashes then you have one variety of exploit, if at the sametime your desktop icons flash, then you have another type of exploit. Both these types of exploits await you openning a programme with a cache (IE can use FireFox's cache and vice versa, when using one or the other when both are installed), the exploits hijack the cache to compile themselves and begin work on your system. Fully uninstall QT, run a registery cleaner, and deep scan your anti-virus programme, use a RootKit on your system, cold reboot and reinstall QT. Do the same with FireFox, even if you never use IE, clean its cache throughly and reduce its cache to 0mb, deleting all cookies. The issue of not being able to see movies in SL, can be simply a lack of consistant bandwidth. Setting the SL bandwidth slider to around 250kbps whilst watching movies, allows both the SL stream, Voice (assuming you are using that as well) and the media streams all to share the available bandwith. SL can manage with less consistant bandwidth, voice and movies cannot. In addition, the pluggin for the SL client, is not a full blown stand alone player which renders the media, it relies on to a point, the SL client to carryout part of the rendering. This uses the OpenGL drivers and not DirectX. Should the SL/QT pluggin fail, restarting the client is the ONLY way to get it to reinitalise. The client now checks that you have the latest QT player, if not, it will not initalise the Plugin at login. Also consider that the media maybe rendered using a codec which is not present on your system, if that is the case, you may see a QT logo, or simply a black screen. A black screen at least tells you that the connection from the Client to the internet is good (even if the url is incorrect) _____________________
