Never had a crash to desktop problem before. Tonite I crashed to desktop TEN TIMES. Each event was triggered by clicking a button to do something, or clicking a poseball. I try to activate something and CRASH! Not the same item, a bunch of different items.
Something amiss was spawned with the advent of this new update.

ANNNNDDDDD!!!! Have you experienced a bandwidth spike, pause, back, spike, lock up so bad your kicked off your connection? Mind you I dont just mean SL connection. I am talking cable( provider)connection. Ever since 10.4 I havent had a solid connection. It got better after 10.6 for a short time then came back with the next update. I thought it was my end. I have replaced net card, updated; drivers, cable modem, all viruse checks, removed caches, defraged, reinstalled SL. Then I find out others are the same problem. There is no patteren to this either. Yesterday the only problems I experienced were fast crashes to desktop. I have a very good PC. I have had the net provider come and check my lines. In a nut shell its NOT MY END. Whats also frustrating is how many of us are going through this and think its our systems. We go out and spend money needlessly to find out whats going on. I own a sim. Im reallysick of paying $200 a month to be kicked off every so often. FIX THIS !!!!! _____________________

For me its when I try to take snapshots. Not all the time, but a good bit of the time. And do you know how freaking frustrating it is to crash every 5 minutes when you're taking pics of your products for your vendors???? *sighs*

I feel you unfortunately for me sl has ALWAYS kicked my internet off, LL simply told me it was cos i was on wireless, well wtf. i thought THAT was bad, pshhhh ever since this last update i can barely move.. i too pay 200USD a month to own a sim and i can barely get around to manage it anymore it never rezzes for me if i do move its as if im lagging but really- its my net gone out again! |

My wireless setup knocked me off all the time, so I started using a hardline. Things were ok till last update. Yes, I am experiencing those weird lag spike anomolies as well. So now when Im not crashing cus I pressed an elevator button twice, Im standing around unable to move cus Im not even connected anymore. This is the buggiest update Ive ever experienced since I joined in 2004.

crashing after clickin hud attachments or poseballs

This has been happening to me at least 5x everytime i log in. I have filed about 10 bug reports... I have spent a great amount of money upgrading my system and everything was working ok until this last update and now i'm crashing constantly. Also my internet connection is getting disrupted completely and have had techs out to check my connection and the line to the house. 3x's i have done this. All reports are good on my connection. It is not my pc, it is not my connection.
Now I click a poseball or excite attachement.. anything it seems with a script for actions and boom off to crash land. Never had this problem with my old dell, just got stuck alll the time. This is getting OLD LINDEN LABS!!! |

Hud attachments are a major player in this crashing disaster. Click a button on the hud and CRASH TO DESKTOP. This has been plaguing me at least five times a day since the last update. My SL doesnt like to run simple scripts anymore, It would rather toss me out the window and make me start from scratch. One way for sure to crash is to take a pic, try to send it as a postcard and click a button on something else while its still processing.
Thats a given with me. Other times its a crapshoot, maybe you crash maybe you just honk your cars horn. ID RATHER JUST HONK THE DAMN HORN! _____________________

After yet another day of the same damn thing, im noticing its got a direct link with picture taking. This crashing episode is always after a pic has been taken. The pic is taken fine, but any button, switch, touch activity performed afterwards results in the crash to desktop.

I received an invite to a group and crashed to desktop when I accepted last night, today i went to click on a chim to dance and hit a light by accident and crashed....think I got electrocuted LOL

Damnit add me to the list and several of my friends. It started with 1.12. When I click ANYTHING that responds to touch events (doors, poseballs, huds) there's a 25% chance I'll crash to desktop.
To the person who said they were crashing with screenshots: at first I thought that was my problem too, because I first started crashing during a period when I was making lots of screenshots. But I soon realized it was when I was touching the control panel of my N30 Deluxe Modeling Studio between pictures that I was actually crashing. I am EXTRA pissed off because I bought this new computer specifically because my old computer started crashing randomly with SL 1.10 and beyond. Everything was beautiful on this new computer until 1.12, and now I'm crashing more than ever!  P.S. Everyone in this thread, please report this bug!!! _____________________

It happens to me everytime I take snapshots.
I can take as many snapshots as I want but the second I touch a scripted object afterwards I crash. _____________________

I make a HUD attachment that people use to help them take snapshots.
I have been frantically trying to work out why it was crashing people's SL's!!  Ok, this is a relief.. but still a nuisance. |

ok here are my recent problems
 freezing up, lag spikes, music drops out/goes crazy, when editing anything it jumps around/spins/resizes randomly on its own, xcite scripts are screwed and clicking some stuff causes crash. (and more) And I was hoping todays update would sort it out now i gotta suffer a week longer =( Jolly fun, what ho. |

Alack, is it the problem that you touch the HUD button? Gee. I should have read this thread.
When I executed my AV RADAR with touching the HUD button and crashed, I sent a report saying, "I crashed when I started scanning avatars." It must have misled Lindens. We must announce and nail down bugs in public, right? _____________________

same here, but its not getting to me as much as it seems its getting to you peps.
fast Top End PC. Crashes, first i was blaming vista or VM. then fresh install (not for SL issues, just needed a fresh install ) same thing in XP and in VMbut to be honest. when i get a lag spike, i log out and log back in. Takes the whole of 10-20 sec's unless you get that. we are now logging you out message when you are trying to log in, Dam that message really annoys me. |

The trick is, you have to take a screenshot first. I promise you: Take a screenshot, then click any Touch-handling object (door, HUD, clickable genitalia, LOL) and POOF you're outta there. Oh and yes, claire, I hate that 'still logging you out' message. I always have to attempt to log on twice after each crash.

Oh SAME HERE! So wonderful to not be alone with this problem, and SO unbelievable that the Lindens have not answered this.. I can't believe they don't just rollback to a stable (oh, didn't you hear me? STABLE!) version and fix it on a development server instead of pestering 250.000 users (a lot of who are paying customers) with a buggy release! I can't get it through my head why they would leave something like this going for even a day! Touch scripts are basically the Enter key of Second Life! This is VITAL to the SL experience....
Oh, and I always have to attempt to log on twice after each crash, too. Which sucks. A lot. /Roland Jenns |

Cable vs DSL?

Just out of curiousity.
How many people with spike/disconnection problems have DSL and how many cable? And how many are using a wireless home network vs. a direct connection. I'm not talking about the crashing problems. That's probably different. I'm only asking about disconnection. I had 1.5Mps DSL with a direct connection. This worked pretty good. I upgraded to 6Mps DSL and it didn't work at all with SL. 6Mps DSL gave me almost immediate disconnection every time I ran SL. Now, I'm on 5Mps cable and it seems to be *much* better. Though with all of the recent horror stories, I've spent much less time in SL recently. Three things that I got out of this: 1) The raw speed of your connection is not the most important factor. 2) packet loss is not the most important thing either. I had equivalent packet loss in the 1.5Mps DSL and 6Mps DSL, but one worked and the other didn't. 3) Certain ISP optimizations can spell death for SL. Seems like it relates to packet ordering, but I can't be certain. And while my cable ISP works great, it's very possible that other cable ISP's are using some of these optimizations to get better throughput. However, these optimization seem to be more prevalent in DSL connections and of course wireless home networks. _____________________
