Could you copy the system information available in the Help About Second Life dialog and paste it here?

Wired or wireless?
Try resetting your modem/router. Make sure firewall/AV doesn't block SL. _____________________

It appears that your video is intergrated (or on board). There are also discrete cards listed at ZDNet reviews...........none recieved a great review (mediocre at best). The reason I think your graphics is onboard is two things.........the details you posted show the driver version as a Windows Graphic Driver and some version number that does not match any driver version I found at ATI's website. And the ATI website discribes the GPU as a "graphics accelerator" (which normally means an onboard or IGP).
Here's the reviews found at ZDNet: http://review.zdnet.com/filter/graphics-processor/ati-radeon-x1600?categoryId=3001&filter=500247_103623 Here's the download page at ATI's website: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Legacy/Pages/radeonaiw_xp.aspx?type=2.4.1&product=2.4.1.3.9&lang=English If what I think you have is an onboard chipset that is probably your problem. The IGP is low end and will not give you much performance for SL. What I would suggest is that you get rid of the Windows Graphics driver (though it is an ATI supplied driver, it's likey to be old and/or improperly installed by Windows Update). Download the current driver for your chipset and install it. |

It looks to me like the x1600 and the x1650 are both discrete video cards.
I have the "6.14.0010.6925" driver version, which results from installing the latest and final drivers for my x800, which is in the "legacy" status at ATI, along with the x1600 and the x1650. http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Legacy/Pages/radeonaiw_xp.aspx I was hoping to provide more useful info but trying to decipher what ATI "6.14.0010.6925" means and how it relates to Catalyst version number 9.3, which is what I have, has destroyed my brain. Have you tried the regular viewer? How long have you been having the problem? When did you install that driver? Have you cleared your cache? _____________________

Have you tried the regular viewer? How long have you been having the problem? When did you install that driver? Have you cleared your cache? I have the same problem. Perhaps this has a little to do with it: ......................................................................... AMD may periodically provide Windows XP and Windows Vista driver updates (for the products listed above) for critical fixes only. No new features will be provided in future driver updates. The Linux ATI Catalystâ„¢ driver will only be supported in Linux distributions prior to February 2009 for the legacy products listed above. .......................................................................... I was making my guess on the IGP based on the driver version the about SL posting by the OP. I cannot find any relationship between that version number and any version listed on the download page. I know nVidia's version number format but ATI I don't. |

Was the lastest driver version number 9.11? I've heard that that driver and SL don't mix well...........many have said 9.10 works
Remember to uninstall the older driver before installing the newer. |

Uninstall just as you would any program using the control panel add/remove. You will not harm your computer and you will still have video on your monitor.
What happens is when you uninstall a driver Windows has to restart for the process to complete.........you get that "restart now" pop up. When your system boots back up the driver will be gone and Windows will see the video card without a driver and treat it as "new hardware found"..........you'll get that dialog asking you to let Windows search for and install a driver for it (the other option is for you to manually locate the driver and install it). Don't do either..........close the box. Your display will look ugly..........probably some resolution at 640 by 480 or some such low resolution. But it will be good enough to install your driver (even surf the internet if you want or need to.........but it's ugly). Then all you need to do is install your driver. You'll be required to restart again but this time when your system boots back up your video will what you are used to. I usually go to the website first and download the driver I want and save to my desktop before I uninstall my old driver..........in your case, I would download a couple such as the two revisions before the latest since you're searching for a driver that is compatable with your system and SL. You do not need the latest driver....you need one that will work. |

i know i'm getting old here lol but i cant find the 9.10 version could you help me out please ATI has moved the drivers for your card into the Legacy section of their download site. I assume that means they are providing limited support for your series of card. Looking at the previous driver download page using the search criteria for your card and operating system the most recent driver (other than the 9.11 version) is 9.8. http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Legacy/9-8/Pages/radeonaiw_xp.aspx?&lang=English I don't know how recent that driver is but at the rate drivers come out I would say it's less than 6 months old. Try it.........like I said you don't need the most recent driver. Heck my driver for my video card was issued in April, 2009. At the bottom of the page I linked you will see "Installation Instructions".........I read it and it has some good information you should know. |

So now you have another driver beside the 9.11 one? And you uninstalled the pervious drivers from your system before you installed the new one? It's likely your problem is something other than a video issue if that's the case.........short of a failing card (but there's no reason to think that right now).
Let me make sure we are working in the same direction. Your problem is that you can't edit you clothing in the appearance mode and that you cannot change clothes without relogging........is that a brief discription of your issue? |

Two things to do.........first go to preferrences > graphics > hit the custom button > hardware > make sure "Vertex Buffer Object (VBO) is unchecked. Then go to the network tab and just below where you clear your cache you'll see a box that has the location on your hard drive where the cache is located. Write that down and log off.......then navigate to that file and manually delete it. It won't hurt anything because that file will be rebuilt again when you launch SL again.
See if that helps. |
