OK ..I just read a great tip on SLEX forum .... in hardware options, instead of cutting half of the memory texture ... double it and that helps a lot ! I mean if you have a 512 mb graphic card, set it to 1024 and not only at 256 ... Run that with the Nicholas viewer that have a windlight patch (Eye Candy version) and try it !! It seems working for me !
(i have an ati x1650 pro 512 mb with AMD 3200+ 1GB ram)

I"ve been quoted in this thread several times and every one of those quotes have disputed my post about looking at your system for this problem some are experiencing. My opinions and observations have not changed one bit. Here's why.

I've been "playing" SL since October, 2005. I've experienced many, many problems in that over 2 1/2 years. Some have been 100% SL problems............most have been mine. Crashing constantly, surprisingly, has never been a huge SL problem that I remember. Transactions failing, tp's failing, lagging out to a standstill, or dropping the connection, sims crashing causing everyone in the sim to crash have been SL problems. But, it's always quite obvious when those things happen. And everyone experiences it at the same time. The OP and others with this problem are apparently the "only ones". It's contrary to logic to blame the same viewer everyone is using as the problem.

When the whole world (or the vast majority of it) is upside down........who's standing on their head?

I'm done with this thread.

Making generalizations about people computers and blaming them is not the answer.
I have been here more then 3 1/2 years and seen most of everything ( nobody can say 100% ). ( just because one is here longer doesnt make them a expect ( just like rl ).Its how one learns from those breakdowns.

1.) Crashing......where are you and how healthy is the sim?

2.) Not everyone uses the same (viwer) or shall we say "CLIENT" how many 3rd party clients are there on sl? yes the basic coding LLABS releases is all the sayme but how many are recoded for differnt purposes?

I not trying to be a know everything. I am not and i never said i been. But blaming users is what LLABS does best. I have a powerful computer with a high speed fiber 100 mbps connection. If the sim or LLABS is aving problems its sure doesnt help to have these factors.

I said I was done................LOL

Usagi, I'm talking about individual people having individual problems with "THE VIEWER" crashing. "THE VIEWER" being the client they are using causing the problem they are experiencing.......as the OP and others have been saying. They have indicated they have the problems with any viewer (not sure about 3rd party viewers though). When SL has problems with their servers or network or the grid in general, everyone knows it.....we all experience the same problem at the same time. Connection speeds have nothing to do with it as long as it's fast enough to recieve the tons of data coming to the individuals computers. I, too, have a fairly high end computer.......but when I started SL I didn't. That really doesn't have a lot to do with it either if you have a computer with a decent video card and close to or more than a gig of RAM. What I'm saying is that when I log into these forums or onto SL I glance at the concurrent users online.........consistantly, I see from 50 to 60k (sometimes more). And if I'm having huge problems with crashing I'm pretty sure it is NOT an SL issue.

A dozen people complaining here on the forums does not make it a fact that SL is causing the problem. It's most likely the individuals problem that can only be solved on their end. And so often they all claim "all their friends" are having the exact same problem. Hmmmmm.........when, I'm having problems like that and I ask, everyone says "No, things are fine for me". Not even looking at their end for a solution will never get the problem fixed......there is my bitch about threads like this. Closed minded people griping about something that most probably their problem.......and the enablers that pipe in with their two cents.

And the classic answer you say LL puts out about blaming our computers just might be correct.......WHEN THERE IS NOT AN SL ISSUE IN PROGRESS (make note of the caps......when SL is not having an issue the assertion that it's not SL, but the user, is correct). And as of right now I know of no SL issue that the client is crashing 4 times in 20 minutes..........do you? :)
