Linden what the hell is going on with Second Life

Why is it you just cannot get anything right. It is now becoming absolutely diabolical trying to do anything in this game. It's gone on for long enough and you just don't seem to give a crap about it.

Losing money left right and centre. You buy or rent something and money dissapears. Nothing works.

Your website doesn't even work even thought the SL website is the slowest in the world. www.secondlife/status isn't even working

Its time to get this rubbish sorted out once and for all. We are totally sick of these major major problems you and your team of baby coders are creating. All you do instead of fixing these disasters is create rubbish we dont need in SL. But what's new you have been ddoing that for years.

Get a grip Linden SORT it or SELL it.

i find it so extremely frustrating that these disablings keep being during the weekends! its been going on for so long, i have no idea what it was like when sl used to work fine ... its been crap. i was thinking about buying land, i was thinking about doing serious stuff, but this is just going too far and right now i am indeed thinking of leaving sl ... this is not fun anymore, guys!!

is sl going to be down for most of the weekend again this weekend as it was last weekend???

I have to agree. I lost major sales because of down time. I crash during TP's or just crash in general. It's terrible

Linden Labs - The asset-servers and databases weren't broken before.... so I request that you abandon whatever changes you made to them and then maybe we can get back to a working economy!? People will be leaving SL in their droves if this isn't fixed properly and immediately.

Oh, and please stop putting 'resolved' on the blog in relation to this issue, clearly a recurring problem can not be described as resolved. It brings to mind the good old days of Windows 98 "Windows is shutting down" - the most frequently told lie ever.

I hate to "defend" Linden but poeple always say "If you dont fix this people will leave". The honest truth is.... they don't care. With millions of people playing what's a few thousand leaving when they are replaced by a few thousand noobies?

well after crashing 10 times... yes... 10 times TODAY.... I am a little upset.

Ive gone back to the old viewer, it crashes on me less.

They dont give a shit about there customers or about anything right now.
I have SO HARD tried to get someone to tell me what the hell is going on but the only answer i get is "check the blog".

Well, i think Linden care if people leave. The people who will leave is the one that Lindens get money from. A couple of millions campers and "Hey i heard you could have sex in here" is not helping Linden make any money. Its people who put money in this place that Linden need.

Why is it always after the fact, problems/losses; no tels, buys, db, login, rez, w/e issues,
do we get the LL town crier msg? I swear it's like Murphys' law, 2 mins later

The problem is that not enough people are willing to just up and leave so that it sends a message. We all complain, yet put up with it and eventually log in and spend money.

Hopefully new users are thinking twice... it seems its going to take more than daily outages to drive away most.

for as many ppls that hang on the forums, idle SL and complain,
the jira voted on bugs/issues are always so low?

Here's the problem Shayna. You've been on for 20 minutes and crashed twice. I was on a little earlier for about 3 hours and didn't crash. Plus many more can stat logged without crashing than those who cannot. Yeah, I know there are nights or days that it seems everyone crashes a lot.........me included. But, most of the time most people can successfully play the game without crashing. You having constant problems with crashing with SL points more at your end than SL's end. SL is fairly unforgiving with computer hardware, drivers and set ups........if your's is lacking somewhere then it's likely you will have problems.

There ae so many things to check. What you have as far as computer hardware, software, driver updates, background programs, router/modem set ups, connection to the internet, etc...........we need some information to help. SL has it's problems but right now what you are experiencing is not one of them.

I for one think its almost impossible to find anything in the jira.

To answer your questions in the nicest way possible. I didn't have any ANY crash problems BEFORE the RECENT update to this new horrible looking viewer. I have a great video card, lots of RAM and a great internet connection. Is my computer great?... no.... does it run all other games with ease?... hell yes. So... in conclusion..... SL didn't crash on me before like it does now. hmmmm... what changed? Nothing on "my end".

I guess that was nice enough. I'm not slamming you at all. Nor am I slamming your computer. You say you crash 4 times in 20 minutes...........I don't doubt that at all. However, I don't crash much at all...........and I'm using the newest viewer too. I know what is installed on my computer, my graphics card, operating system, RAM, CPU speed, network connection speed, internet speed, now often I reboot my router and modem, I know what background programs I have running, my firewall settings, anti virus, etc, etc, etc. I know nothing of what you are running.......does not lend much to anyone helping you with your problems.

First question I have specifically, is you say you are using the most recent viewer. Is that the 1.19.xx viewer? Or is the most recent RC viewr which is 1.20? The RC viewer is a beta viewer for voluntary testing by residents.......it's buggy as hell. The newest regular viewer is now windlight inabled......that is new over other regular viewers. Both put additional strain on your computer software and hardware. The common problem is the graphics driver you have now is not good enough for the new viewer........check for another driver at your manufacturers website. That is not the only thing that can be causing your problems, but it's the most common cause for most people.

And I'll say it again.......crashing 4 times in 20 minutes is not the norm with the vast majority of people using SL. I have a few friends on SL right now that can stay connected for hours using computers with CPU speeds of less than 1 gig, less than 1 gig of RAM, onboard generic graphics cards, and low speed DSL connections. So, it's not likely that the viewer is the root cause of your problems.

If it weren't for my partner, I'd give up. Seriously, I'm not THIS addicted.

If my inventory problem doesn't get fixed soon, I am quite likely going to pull out of SL, abandon everything, and never look back.

I Totally aggree with that im tired of there issues already, and it seems like its happening quite a lot aswell now adays, Tired of them forcing an upgrade when they aint even fixed any of the problems in the beginning. Tired of the crashes, Tired of put my stock out for sell setting it uppricing etc. only to come back the next day for it to tell me sorry object does not seem to be for sell!! tired of having to delete the items and put it back, only for a couple of days i have to do the same thinmgs again. Tired of loosing my hair when i tp to a different location.. just Tired Tired Tired of this day after day crap!!! you would have thought SL would have sorted out there issues by now sheshhhhhhhh look how long they been on!! every day theres always something, man i didnt have all these issues way back when i first started. I just really feel it for the premuim members as they paying each month, i used to be one but i went back to basic as i found i could still own land and do what i want on basic aint givin sl another cent of my money untill they fix this crap!!!

Hmm ... I think I'm not in the vast majority also. I have actually same problems as Shayna. My computer has not changed but since the last awful update, the official one with viewer 1.19.xx ..I can't stop crashing ... And yes, it's a Linden trouble.
For your infos, my computer is a amd 3200+, 2.2 ghz with 1 GB ram, with an ati radeon x1650 Pro 512mb, high speed adsl connection with an linksys G router wire-connnected.
Before the update, I was able to run all the viewer without crashing, even the RC with Windlight (and even run photoshop CS2 at the same time without problems). I was also able to run multiple viewer session.
Actually, I have 6 viewers installed on my computer, official one, RC, Betagrid, Onrez viewer, Nicholas viewer and old one viewer (1.18.xx) and all crash. The weird part is sometimes I can stay on line 1 or 2 hours and sometimes I crash just each 5 minutes. I only stay on my skybox above my shop.. so no laggy sims can cause that. Sometimes, I just have to set the world to noon and I crash. After reading a lot everywhere, it seems that this problem is linked to ati video card. Linden actually try to to say that is an ati problem ..lol I only crash with SL, I never crash with others application or 3dgames (as Wow). But also , I have try with the latest driver available from ati ..no change. I also try with non official drivers (omega drivers) and still same crashing results.
It looks like there is an OpenGl incompatibility between ati and SL ... and only with SL ..so the problem is the following, LindenLab always want to go ahead too fast and never, never, take time to test all the troubles that can occured with their update. They are so lucky that actually no other similar virtual world exists ....
I try to do my best to run my business during this trouble period but honestly if that will last, I will look elsewhere to have fun.

I dont think its just ATI Radeon. I have GForce with the latest NVidia drivers and I am crashing all the time, and I agree that sometimes you only have to set your world to NOON and you crash. This has been going on for a very long time.

I can remember far back when the useless Linden help team were around. They would always blame you for not having updated drivers or your GFX card was out of date or your ISP was at fault. In those days SL cost me a lot of money upgrading my hardware and all the time it was Linden and his good for nothing coders that cause all the problems with SL. I personally dont think that anyone at Linden Labs no what the hell they are doing. I think its about time that "Mr Philip Linden" killed of his AV and sell out to a company that knows how to handle major 3D environments like this.

I have used Microsoft products since the day Gates started it, and hated everything he stood for. But one thing he can't do with any of his software that I run is completely reset my machine many times while I am In Game. BUT SL CAN and yet the Lindens will not or refuse to give any answers to why this happens or why we are constantly crashing all the time.

I, like many other residents in SL are totally sick of the problems. We are sick of complaining and getting nowhere with Linden Labs and its about time something was done about it.

It's disheartening and disgusting how a major company like Linden Labs is able to treat people in the way they do.

Get it orted Linden. You must see all the Forums and comments you get on an hourly basis. So you are very aware of all the crap that is happening with SL.

Well you close but more like 100 meters you missed the target. THis person is not the only one having these issues. Infact I bet that person has updated their drivers etc etc etc.....The only thing you said right was the needed of details of their system.




This staement is true. Thats when we have reasonable Lindens, but now.........

Its defently not an ATI problem i have a gForge 7600GT 512mb ram and I crash they seem to blame it on routers also, fact is, my configuration hasent changes in years, and everthing worked kinda nice until they came up with this 1.19.xx vievers, the problem startet after that update. So its most likely not peoples routers, or graphic cards. I can play WoW,EQ,EQ2 or what the hell ever and i dont crash, here i click on apperance or preference or change anything else and poof im gone, then the most funny part the Crash log send is broken as well.. lol. The problems with lost inventory or freaked up assets server or lost transaction or broken databases, 1/10 of my inventory is missing from database and this haves defently nothing to do with graphic cards.
And if you make a support ticket and ask them what you can do about you simple get ignored.
But also i don't think complaining here and say if that is not going to be fixed i will leave will do nothing good. And as long they have millions what pay tier fees or have prenium accounts they make enough cash and at the end lots of peeps complain and play, so whats the point
