Do you have the latest version of Catalyst?

Were you able to run SL previously?
It might be worth uninstalling the drivers, rebooting, then installing making - sure no AV is running when you download/install the new ones. Sometimes drivers can get corrupted. I don't have an ATI card but someone should be along to give firsthand knowledge of which drivers are best. Here's a thread with some info: /111/ec/320693/1.html _____________________

I believe the error you are getting is when the game is launched the software checks your hardware, sees something that looks like some unsupported hardware issue (in your case your graphics card). You do not need to be able to start SL before you can fix your problem............go to ATI's website, get a driver that has a record of working (like that Catalyst 8.12 mentioned earlier in this thread). Uninstall your current driver and install the new driver. Then try SL again.
Nothing magic or difficult about it at all. |

You should be able to uninstall your ATI driver in Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs. There are instructions at the ATI website on removing that will walk you through it.

are you, by any chance, set up to use your onboard graphics? You may have to go your BIOS set utility and disable your onboard chipset so your discrete card will be recognized by your OS.
You should be able to go to your device manager to see which display adapter (graphics) that is being used. If it's anything other than the ATI card you are not set up correctly........or the card is not propertly seated in it's slot. |

How do i do that ? .. would be great if u could help me step by step The exact steps vary quite a bit from computer to computer. You would have to consult your owner's manual for how you would get that done. Usually to get to your BIOS setup utility is to hit the delete key during the post stage of your boot up process. It' relatively harmless to look around in there as long as you do not save and exit......only do that when you know you have it set up properly. Check your comuter manufacturer's website if you do not have the manual. Or some computers come with a CD that contains the information you need. Or call the place where you purchased you computer. I don't think anyone here would feel comfortable trying to walk you through how to disable your onboard graphics.....though, I'm sure many could do it if they had access to your computer. Not to mention......my post was really just a guess I thought of when you mentioned that the SL system report reported your video card incorrectly. That could also mean your driver is corrupt. Or the wrong driver, or most anything related to drivers. ATI has a handy utility that will uninstall the driver and all related entries for that driver. You might try running that. It should be in the driver short cut in your start menu (if memory serves me correctly.....been a few years since I had an ATI card). If you uninstalled the driver and there is still remnants left you can install the driver again....might work or might not. But if it does not then uninstall again using the utility that is in the start menu instead of the add/remove in Windows. After that redownload the driver (don't use the previouly downloaded file as it may be corrupted itself and the real root of your problem) and install again. Read ATI's website for how to install a driver.......that is good, solid information for any driver installation (not just ATI video drivers.....all drivers for any manufacturer for any hardware requiring drivers). |
