There's been two video cards with overly low FPS. That might suggest the problem lies elsewhere, presumably the motherboard.

If the problem is with the motherboard, you might end up not making any progress by getting a different video card.

The advice to contact the motherboard and video card makers is good advice, I'd try that before getting a new card.

I think my advice to post in several other forums is also sound advice.

There may be several different possible upgrades available for the motherboard. You might want to discuss upgrading the motherboard drivers again with your dad.

If the computer is used mainly for games, the risk of damage while upgrading the motherboard should be weighed against the fact that it doesn't seem to be working properly now.

If you have someone that can let you borrow a video card for a few hours, that would be a way to see if the problem remains the same no matter what.

If there is an onboard video processor you might want to see if is properly disable when 4870 is installed.

Did you ever post what motherboard you have?

You posted a link that doesn't go to a particular motherboard, at least not for me.

The motherboard i have right now is a:

-Intel LGA775 Pentium 4 CPU [P5RD1-V]
- ATI RADEON XPRESS 200 Northbridge
- Dual-Channel DDR400/333
- High Definition Audio
- Serial ATA RAID
- AI NOS
- AI NET2

It is indeed rather weird that two 512 MB video cards are preforming poorly.
I will try to figure out if i can fix the problem by contacting some experts.
If that doesn't work i will have to perhaps look for a new Motherboard and Processor.

One more thing, it seems obvious, but I'll ask. You do have Windows update to at least SP2? XP Pro is an old system, will need updates to recognize almost everything in your computer properly.

The BIOS update isn't terribly dangerous or time consuming.

I have SP-2 Installed.

Well apperantly my dad is really worried about it, i personally wouldn't be able to do it because i have no clue how, and definitely do not want to mess up what i have right now.

I asked around on other forums and they too said that my motherboard is the problem here, if i updated it the performence should go up with at least 500% according to one of the guys that replied.

I'll see if i can get a motherboard off of someone... either that or i'll have to save money again to buy a decent one.

Just a quick thought, have you tried reinstalling the CLUB3D Nividia 8500GT GC and see what happens? The 8500GT is a good workhorse, which of course you already know.

The latest and most powerful GC's available do not always result in increased playability. This is mainly due to 1) No improvements in the OpenGL drivers/capabilities 2) Non-Supported additional features in existing platforms.

As your issues are encountered on other games/platforms, its safe to say its your system and not SL specific.

The ASUS is a good MB, however there have been some BIOS/MB issues with the latest quad core CPU's reported on their forums. You may not find assistance there for Home Brew system specs, but maybe some useful workrounds maybe available. I also 'home brew' my own systems in preference to buying boxes. It can be a unique experience fathoming out how and why something doesn't work, when technically, it should given the Open Architecture of the PC system. Not everything in life is equal.

You mentioned that you connection has nothing to do with performance.... try playing SL over dialup. The SL Client relies on receiving data of every event that happens in the VR environment, via your connection. It is true that is nothing appears to be happening, then your fps should not suffer.
