No need to get all testy.. just trying to make light conversation so people stay in good moods during this situation.. It's not often i have anything like this happen to me, it's normally expected random crashing that happen to me. I even have the crashing times scheduled since it's been happening for a few months.

It's a pretty well known fact that SL has had more issues lately than normal. It appears they continue. But I, too, was trying to be a little light hearted in my first post........the rapidity of the posts was comical. It reminded me so much of the threads/posts back when I first came to SL and these forums. The panicking about loosing inventory, the OMG what's happening, the fear..............like it's the end of the world that a server has failed oh had to be taken down. It stuck me funny is all.

Well, That's a change it said "Despite our best efforts, something has gone wrong" Good to know my inventory lives and that it's likely i'll be able to continue with my daily Roleplaying.
Nice chattin' with you guys and hope all your SL's come back to life as well.

Yep same problem here. Glad to see it's not just me =__=
It doesn't even give me the "inventory server unavailable" notice anymore. It just hangs on login.

From: Viktoria Dovgal "Inventory server unavailable" means exactly that, the server with your inventory is down. The assets themselves are on separate file server clusters.
People do lose inventory items from all kinds of fun sim, network, viewer problems, but those inventory database machines do seem to fail pretty cleasnly when they fail. LL seems to have good enough transactioning for that little piece of the system. (thy Viktoria Dovgal) but(tt) why it MUST be on some separate file server clusters ? WHY is my stuff not on the same file server ??? to produce MORE LAG ???

but(tt) why it MUST be on some separate file server clusters ? WHY is my stuff not on the same file server ??? to produce MORE LAG ??? The asset server is a big pile if stuff organized by UUID. The inventory databases are indexes of what assets in that pool you own. This makes for less lag, not more. Imagine if all the inventories had to be hit every time you walked into a sim just to see the textures etc.! Imagine how slow things would be if when you put on a shirt, if it had to go fetch the textures from the inventory of whomever you bought it from It used to be that there was one big avatar inventory database and when it broke, no one could use SL. Now there is a whole colony of them, each serving a set fraction of the population. That's less competition for the same resource, so less lag again. It also means that when one inventory database breaks, most of the world can carry on as normal, only a fraction of users need to be booted. That's no fun when your number is up and you are one of the booted avatars, but it surely beats the old days when that would take down the whole grid.

From: Christiana Aurbierre is it best to ride the login... or closing and keep trying? It's best to wait at least a few minute between attempts. Hammering the log in server creates another, different log jam and slows the whole process down for everyone.

Repeat problem.....
12-15-2009 18:21
I had this Issue the other day...?? "Inventory System not available" and again today... something I have noticed is after a restart(scheduled Sim Maintenance) or a role-out Last thursday (9th/12) and today Tuesday(15th/12) is anyone else seeing this..??? and if so .. is there a simple explanation or should I start logging Techno-Help Tickets on that other system that does not seem to be available often either.. Have a Great Day All in SL and real ..

I was just on about 15 minutes ago and did a massive inventory clean up. All my inventory was available. I cleaned or deleted about 30% of my inventory (mostly duplicate items, dead landmarks, old notecards, calling cards and the like).
