It could be the sim you are trying to log into. Try changing your login location to REZZME (its a sandbox island).

I glanced at your past threads and have a couple of suggestions.
1) Don't start a new thread for the same question over and over. Being able to see the history of what you have already tried/asked/been told will be helpful to those who are trying to help you. 2) Always post your system specs when asking for tech support. Without information specific to your computer and your internet connection, all suggestions are just guesses. |

What happens when you try to log in?
Have you been able to log in since you upgraded your video drivers? Have you tried any third party viewers? What version of Second Life viewer are you using? (the version number, not the words "the latest", "the current release" or any other descriptive phrase) Have you tried turning your entire system off for a few mintutes? (Computer, modem, router, etc.) What kind of internet service do you have? Do you let Windows Update update automatically? The specs you listed don't include what video card you are using. I think you can use the Help / About Second Life dialog from the login screen without having to log in. That would give you some information sort of like this: Second Life 1.23.4 (12390 ![]() Release Notes Built with MSVC version 1400 You are at 262341.9, 265862.4, 36.8 in SL6B Titan located at sim3771.agni.lindenlab.com (216.82.22.252:13001) Second Life Server 1.26.4.120562 Release Notes CPU: Intel Pentium 4 (Unknown model) (3200 MHz) Memory: 1007 MB OS Version: Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3 (Build 2600) Graphics Card Vendor: ATI Technologies Inc. Try to provide complete descriptions of the problem and exactly what steps you have tried, not stuff like "I can't log in, and I've tried everything." You might want to post this compete detailed system information, problem description, and exact error messages not only here, but also in the Second Life Answers site, and it wouldn't hurt to sign up at sluniverse.com and post it in the forums there. If you have a blog you could post it there too. _____________________

If you have more than one computer connected to the same cable connection in your house you have one of two things..........a router or one of your computers is set up as a server. It's more likely you have a router since you would know if one computer is a server. What Suezanne is saying is to turn off the power to your modem and/or router. Do that by unplugging them from the electrical source. Leave both devices unplugged for at least 2 mins.........5 is better. Then plug them back in and as soon as the LED lights settle down boot your computer back up and check to see if you can log in then.
I really doubt that is going to fix your problem but it's something that needs to be done so that it is eliminated as a cause. It's also very easy to do. Also if you have a firewall in place (which you should) try disabling it once to see if that is blocking access to the LL servers. What anti virus do you run? Norton and McAfee both have a history of interferring with SL. I think your password works or else you would not be able to post here, but check (very carefully) that you have entered it correctly. I just submitted a ticket to LL last night about one of my accounts not being able to log in.......a problem I was experiencing for over two days. Then I get the email back today from LL telling me to reset my password..........it was only then that I actually carefully checked the password I was entering. I was entering a password for another site. Felt stupid as hell, but I'm telling you about it because somthing so simple, "just knowing you did it right" can to be the root of your problem. Don't get frustrated with anyone here.......we are trying to help. |

Is their someone else where you are trying to use Second Life sharing your internet connection?
Are you in a dorm? Trying to access SL at work? Using someone else's computer? You can find the meaning of terms like "router" by doing a web search. This can be much faster than waiting for someone else to provide you with a definition. That way, you can answer the question quickly, and thus improve the chances of a quick solution to your problem. Did you buy your computer new or used? Did you pick out that nVidia 9800 video card? Are you trying to access the teen grid? _____________________

Do you ever get to the point where you can click on the edit menu and get to your preferrences? If you can, then in addition to clearing your cache also clear your browser cache.......it's on the web tab just below the network tab where you clear you cache.
See if that helps. |

If you can go to your mom's and log on using her computer then there is nothing wrong on SL's end. I'm betting it's a modem/router problem........or a firewall issue. You never answered if you had a router in the mix. I think you said your have reset your modem. But, have you called your ISP? Do you rent or lease your modem from your ISP? If you do then they should be able to walk you through any configuration settings you might have to check or change. Or you can request a modem replacement. If you own your own then you are on your own......but your manual for it should tell you any configuration settings options you might have. Same with a router. You can call the manufacturers of those devices for tech support. They are very much accustomed to novice users....they will help you.
What happened the last time you were able to log into SL? Did you crash or did you have a sudden system shut down (like a power failure)? Did you upgrade any other software between the time you were last able to log in and when you could not (including antivirus, maleware software)? Have you instqlled any new software since last being able to log in? Have you uninstalled any software since your last log in? It's something specific to your computer and/or your connection. You just have to find it and fix it. |

Just an idea and it's probably not the cause but...
Please go to Windows/Windows/System32/drivers/etc and open the file host using notepad, wordpad or whatever. If you see a line mentioning Second Life there, please delete it and save the "host" file. "host" is used to redirect addresses to IPs, like "localhost" will be redirected to "127.0.0.1" which is your own PC An unedited host file should look something like this: # Copyright (c) 1993-2006 Microsoft Corp. # # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows. # # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each # entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should # be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name. # The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one # space. # # Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual # lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol. # # For example: # # 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host 127.0.0.1 localhost ::1 localhost - Asriazh |

Now you mention it my partner upgraded explorer would that interfear with it? That is a possibility. Settings could have changed with any software upgrade or change so that is something you look at. If your partner upgraded Explorer (I'm assuming that is Internet Explorer) from Windows update, Windows would have automatically created a restore point before upgrading. As long as you did not delete restore points since that upgrade you should be able to restore back to that point........certainly worth a try. |

It's possible you might need to
1. Uninstall your video drivers 2. Possibly run a registry cleaner to remove all traces of the current driver. 3. Install either the same drivers or a different version of driver. nVidia driver version numbers are displayed in two different formats, or at least have been, which I find a bit confusing. There's a version number that has been reported many times as working well with Second Life. That is version 175.19 . This is not the current version, its an older version. Perhaps someone will report if it works with your video card. _____________________

the 185.85 driver for the 9800 cards works well.
Though it does sound like a video driver issue a good clean install would certainly not hurt. NVidia's website has a pretty good FAQ section and explains the proper upgrading of the driver. One more thing that has sort of been bugging me from one other post where you mentioned that your "partner" will not help you and he thinks SL is a waste of your time (or something to that effect). Is this his computer you are using or is it yours personally? If it's his and you are using that computer as second account and he is the administrator then it's possible he has set it up so that Second Life will not run for you. I hate to think that way but it's beginning to look more and more like it. Talk to him. If it's yours then maybe you are not logged into the proper account for some reason. |
