Hey, if you've ever been interested in crewing one of the ships at one of our naval battles, but were too intimidated, here's a great chance to learn the ropes.

Static Sprocket will be training crew in Sanchon Monday at 7pm. There will be target practice, a bit of sailing practice, and explanation of all the HUD funcitons, repairing, etc... everything you need to be a stellar crew member.

Also, experienced captains are also welcome to come and help out with the training (and recruit).

Wow, this all sounds exciting! However, I'm in GMT+9 so the 7pm thing is hard to do. Any way I can get involved? :( I have a small sailboat (a ketch) myself if that helps?

I'll also IM in world. :)

ARRR!

Ah, great! Sorry about the time... we may start doing some european friendly times in the next week or two. Anyway, if you ever can make it to one of the events, you can always crew on someone else's ship. Unfortunately you wouldn't be able to do much with the ketch, since (if I'm not mistaken) it uses SL wind or user set wind, which is a bit different from the wind algorithm on our ships (the wind would be blowing in different directions and intensities for you than everyone else).

Currently we only use the ships I've made specifically for the whole pirate combat system (The Pirate Ship, The Combat Sloop, The Combat Barge, The Merchant Barge, and The Merchant Sloop), and pretty soon Tony is going to release a new line of 2 or 3 ships that use my system.

The Speculaas pirate ships sailing physics are very similar to those of your ketch, but with their own wind algorithm, and are a bit different to fit the type of ships some of them are (square rigged or combination). But they also have a HUD based cannon system, with limited ammuntition, which can be reloaded, aimable cannons, and Hit Points. The ships keep track of how many times they've been hit, and will sink if they run out of Hit Points. That is, unless someone is wearing a Repair HUD and repairing the ship fast enough.

Anyway, if anyone is ever interested in doing any fighting on the high seas outside the battles, join and IM the PiratesOfSL group. Sanchon is a good sim for battles, as is the Great Intercontinental Sea, many conjoined sims of open, rez-enabled water. Lomond sim is at the center of that.

Cool, I will check it out in game when I get home, and look at some compatible ships. :)

I hope they have a plank option for prisoners!

The Korea continent ought to be enciircled with navigable water, and property owners on the water ought to understand that making it hard to use boats on the water mostly succeeds in lowering the property values for everyone... which is not smart.

It's called the Korea continent...? I had no idea, that's very interesting.

I'm now starting to think we ought to call it the Ryukyu Islands or the Ryukyu Kingdom. That would make me a lady privateer sailing from the Ryukyu Kingdom as Ranma Tardis suggested. Since the Lindens keep extending the continent as a series of islands, this fits...

So... Ruyuku Pirates practice tonight at 7 PM in Sanchon.

I'll have my first new ship type for sale in about a day or so!

It's called the H.S.S. Wraith, and it is fully-compatible with Chase Speculaas' ships, as he mentioned before.

I'll post a preview pic when I get hom from work today. I will probably be at the practice Monday night as well, to demo it.

Battle Results
03-03-2006 18:11
This week on Wed. we completed 3 engagements. The last two in particular were superb! There was more teamwork, coordination, leadership,

Summary:

Engagement 1:
Because of a hurried start and a great deal of confusion, I have no idea what actually happened in the first engagement. All we know is that Tony and Static's fleet won. Afterwards we re-organized the fleets.

Red Fleet:
(Wraith)TonyRockyHorror<C> + Billy,
(Pirate Ship)Brookston<C>, Chase<FA> + Persephone

Blue Fleet:
(Sloop)Bobby<C> + Orren<FA>
(Pirate Ship)Static<C> + Vampira + Henri

Engagement 2:
Brookston's ship barrelled into the midst of the enemy ships near the center of the sim, while Tony held back and didn't become entangled until somewhat later. We did a good deal of damage (I was crewing his ship, and serving as Fleet Admiral), but were quickly incapacitated and our ship ended up beached close to the dock. We surrendered to Static before he sunk us. Then a long battle ensued between Tony's Wraith and the two enemy ships. Between the nimbleness of his craft, the unusual forward placement of the cannons, and some pure luck, he managed to sink both of the enemy ships. Red Fleet was victorious.

Engagement 3:
This one was genious. Red Fleet used the tactic of having Tony attempt to flank the enemy while their big ship went straight in and bared it's broadside against the enemy's big ship. It didn't work out quite that gracefully, but there was a very well played maneuver made by Brookston whcih trapped Bobby's sloop between the shore and the dock. We then promptly sank him ;) We had sufficient time to repair fully, and Tony, sailing in behind Static's ship, managed to sink him rather efficiently, taking very little damage. Red Fleet won with both vessels intact.

(If anyone who watched or participated in the battles would like to give their own account of one or all of them on this thread, go for it!)

Crew Training and Practice
03-05-2006 19:00
Static is holding another crew training event tomorrow (Monday) at 7pm SLT in Sanchon. If you're interested in learning how to crew a ship, you'll get more than enough instruction and practice at the training event to be able to be a great crew member on Wednesday. Also, it's a great opportunity for you experienced captains to come help out and recruit some crew members.

Last Wednesday's Battles
03-10-2006 11:16
Spanish Fleet: Baroun (C) + ZATZAi, Chase (C) + Billy
Pirate Fleet: Bobby (C) + Green, Static (C) + Tammy + Bino

Engagement 1 and 2:
Spanish fleet won both of the first two engagments, sinking both enemy ships and losing none of their own during both battles.

Engagement 3:
We did our first multi-sim escrort type mission. Static piloted a Merchant Sloop, and his mission was to travel from the dock in Sanchon south to the big yacht in the south of Jinji. He was escorted by Baroun's ship.

Bobby and I, the attacking ships, were unsuccessful in sinking the Merchant Sloop, so they won.

Yes there is a blockade of the Northern Conintients Southern Coast. It is being done by a security script and the Lindens refuse to stop it! My "unblockable" water property is indeed blocked. What is the point of having a boat if you cant go anywhere?

Let's see, I guess this is a result of the LAND OFFICE selling off an option on the open water offshore from your coastal lot? Someone bought that chunk of open water for a future island (or owns it outright and has simply not put the island in place yet), but HAS installed a security script for their private island?

All of the above, I think. In any case it does not matter since I sold my land and downgraded my membership to basic. I rent land now on a private island.

Results of last Wednesday's Fleet Battles:

English Fleet:
(Captian) + (Crew) <Ship Type>

--Silkie (C) + Mel <Red Dragon>
--Tony (C) + Persephone <Wraith>

Spanish Fleet:
--Cutter (C) + ZATZAi + Cock <Pirate Ship>
--Static (C) + Tanya + david <Pirate Ship>

Engagement 1: Spanish fleet wins

Engagement 2: The dock cannons were used by spectators against the winners of the last battle (Spanish fleet), which was a pivotal factor in the victory of the English fleet during engagement 2.

Engagement 3: The dock cannons were now turned against the winners of the last battle (English fleet), but through Silkie's expert leadership, the English fleet overcame the odds against the superior force and won.

Good job everyone who participated! Hope to see you there tomorrow!

Epic Battle!!! And a christening...
03-27-2006 19:59
I've wanted to do a very large, multi-sim battle for quite some time now, involving 10 or so fully crewed combat enabled ships.

Problem is, I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to scrounge together the... oh... 25-30 sailors that would require at one place at the same time. How much interest is there for that sort of thing?

It is tentatively schedule for "sometime within a month", in the new Hollywood and surrounding sims.

On a completely different note, the Endeavor, a stationary ship, and the most detailed in SL to date (an accurate replica of the real Endeavor, made famous by Captain Cook), is nearing completion. It's a 1100+ prim beauty... entirely prim-inefficient, I know, but gloriously decadent in that. Sometime later this week I'll post an event for the christening ceremony and party. Shortly thereafter, it will hit the market. It's currently dry-docked in the middle of Jinsil.

Announcing the Christening of the Endeavour
03-29-2006 09:13
I'll be holding a short christening ceremony at 6:00pm SLT in Sanchon, for the Endeavour, which is finally finished! Come by to see the whole champagne bottle ordeal, and hang out on the ship afterward for a while.

Then, at 7:00pm will be the Vagabonds Yacht Club sailboat regatta.

Battle Results
04-06-2006 20:15
The event was a free-for-all, ammo heavy game (there were a total of 7 Ammo Depots in the sim, as opposed to the usual 1-3)

ENGAGEMENTS 1-3
Ship 1: Silkie, Ta
Ship 2: Mel, Christian
Ship 3: Chase, Jack

Ship 2 won the first engagement
Ship 1 won the second engagement
Ship 3 won the third engagement

At this point, we consolidated crews and used only two ships

ENGAGEMENTS 4-5
Ship 1: Silkie, Ta, Jack
Ship 2: Mel, Christian, Chase

Ship 2 won both the fourth and fifth engagements

Good job everyone! And we had a lot of spectators this week too, thanks for showing up everyone :)

Next week the battle will be in the new Hollywood sims!
