The Blockade starts at 7pm today (Wednesday), in Sanchon. This is a call for crew members for both the blockade fleet and the blockade runners. Each ship needs a pilot, a gunner to man the cannons, and a maintenance technician.

Each ship needs a pilot, a gunner to man the cannons, and a maintenance technician. I think "carpenter", "gunner's mate", or perhaps "midshipman" would be better terminology than "maintenance technician" for the crew member that fixes damage to the boat. At least I would prefer to be a gunner's mate to being a maintenance technician. ![]() |

Whoa! What is all this, now? Do I read correctly that there is going to be a naval blockade in SL? What does that entail? Are you securing a harbor? Will you be firing on supply ships? Any plank walking?
I have to see this. ![]() _____________________

Yes there is a blockade of the Northern Conintients Southern Coast. It is being done by a security script and the Lindens refuse to stop it! My "unblockable" water property is indeed blocked. What is the point of having a boat if you cant go anywhere? ???????? There are two kinds of blockades, the fun kind and the not-fun kind. An example of the not-fun kind is a landowner using ban lines in Danbi sim to block boat access across the water there (most unfortunate, we can't sail around the continent anymore and have to route around this poor confused soul). This un-fun problem could easily be avoided with the addition of a void water sim as was requested here /145/70/88379/1.html. The Korea continent ought to be enciircled with navigable water, and property owners on the water ought to understand that making it hard to use boats on the water mostly succeeds in lowering the property values for everyone... which is not smart. The fun kind of blockade involves ships, cannons, sailing, and the Sanchon to Jinsil narrows... you'll want a pirate costume, I'm sure. We are trying to set Sanchon and Jinsil sims up to host both sailboat racing and pirates/naval battles. Tuesdays and Saturdays we race. On wednesdays we fight. ![]() |

He claimed that his script didn’t block the waterway but is sure that it does. He is so worried about grifters.......... Like most of the security users the only rights he cares about are his own. It is these selfish people that will get me to stop being a premium member. I might just give up SL entirely to the relief of my family. About being a pirate? How about the Lady Privateer sailing from The Ryuku Kingdom attacking the people that would deny us our freedoms? |

There are two kinds of blockades, the fun kind and the not-fun kind. Boating around last night I came across a build that spanned clear across the open water way. What a drag. I navigated around as best as possible, but a little bit later, an attempt to run through a narrow trench got me blasted by the infamous "10-second security removal device". There was no chance for my boat, myself or my swarthy crew to skedaddle from the premises in the alotted 10-second period. And so I found myself sitting at my home location, sans boat and sans boatmate. On the bright side, I now have a lovely photo of my av frozen in a star filled SL sky awaiting TP home. Pirate battles sound like just the thing for me. I need to find a good hook hand and an eye patch. _____________________

Water ways
02-22-2006 12:27
If LL labs would set aside protected water as they do with road ways we would not have any problems getting around in boats. As long as they sell all the water and people buy it there are bound to be secuity gates put up which does suck but again if someone owns the water they do have a right to put the gate up.

Then it is Linden Labs fault for not making protective waterways for the boats to travel. You the paronoid are destroying the experience of many SL users. My "land" is open to all to enter. I think these people need to be in a special sim or sims away from the decent residents. |

As a former owner of a seaside home I can tell you of two annoying things about people sailing round the plot. One is where people land on your shore and proceed to wreck your peace - not something peaceable passing sailors are doing, I hasten to add. The other is where passing traffic causes the prim allowance of the parcel to be exceeded and the owner's belongings to be returned. I was most grieved to see my Harry Bear dumped in my inventory while I was over on the mainland. Ethan Bear was distraught at being so deserted.

I own seaside lots and NEVER had a problem with people passing by. Remember they cant be more that 31 prims and still move and this includes the passengers at 1 apeice. Like the "freedom of the air" movement, there is a "freedom of the water". If you like to be alone, why dont you get a sim that allows you to be ALONE. SL is a SOCIAL game and it is the interactions that give it flavor. Sitting around on my lots is BORING. Do you want to own quiet seaside land? The security users are chasing away the other users. I will sell you my "land" at cost and throw in my boat as well. My area is very quiet due to the "blockade". With my property you would land plenty of prims to use. |

How big is your land and how much do you want, Ranma. Really me and the soon to be missus ar elooking for some mor eland aimed at after the wedding (early/mid march).
On a side note, why don't you vote on my proposal (prop 999) to extend ban lines to the tops of building space. That'll give you a sign to avoid when flying. Who says red ban lines are always bad? |

it may be smart for them.. they can buy more land, cheaper, and keep people off the property. Its not that they are being excessively rude.. its LL hasn't set up open protected waterways. Actually, they ARE being excessively rude by setting what amounts to a boat trap. If they really want to keep people off, they could completely block the waterway. Instead, there is a small opening which may or may not be open depending on the whim of the residents, and who happens to be around that day. Some days there are ban lines... some days there is an eject script... some days there is nothing. So you never know if you can get through or not. Whomever was around last friday night told me that they were doing it "to piss you off". Seemed a little rude to me... Sure they own the land and can do what they want... and unhappy boaters can moor outside their land and yell at them. Maybe that is how the landowner can have much more fun in SL? Passive-aggressive griefing alternating with active ejecting of the boating community? I have made it a point to talk to everyone I can in the waterways and with exactly one exception in Danbi, everyone has been super supportive and friendly. Some people have moved their builds a little so that boats could get by more easily. Even on protected waterways you have issues.. say a ship was coming from either side of a narrow passage. Who calls the other one a 'stubborn *** that won't get out of the way' first? There was a wonderful example boating courtesy in in tuesday's VYC races, where a powerboat swerved to get out of the way of a sailboat during one of the multi-sim long course races. By following the right of way rules for boats in RL its actually very simple for everyone. We all wanted to track down the power boat and positive rate them... |

My Land is in Tecta with one 512 lot being at (60,36) at 5999. There is another 512 lot which will sell for the same and a 1536 lot that will be sold at 11000. Thinking about it the boat can not be transfered. I could leave it if you wish and just not make any copies to be fair to the sellor. Dont think have any votes left. Nobody told me we had only a limited number of them! |

Please don't hijack the thread, Ranma. This was not about your pet issue.
Oh, and for the third time, it's "griefer", not "grifter". Grifter is a word with a whole different meaning, in no way related to "griefer". I know English is not your first language, but trust me on this. _____________________

What kind can you have with the 31 prim level? If my understanding is correct with 3 crew it leaves 28 prims for the boat. |

I'll take a look Ranma, no guarantees though. (we paid 9k for a 2048 already, probably find a 1024 -2048 for the second land.) Not like we don't have the teir.

Tangent!!!
02-23-2006 10:18
Wow! Didn't see the post getting this much attention... haha, guess I was a little vague though. Just trying to get the event info out there.
Well, to further explain, I was referring to a sort of game using the ships I build. The ships sail using physics similar to Kanker Greenacre's Flying Tako sailboat. They also have cannons, which you can aim and fire at other ships. Each ship has hit-points, and when they reach zero, the ship capsizes and sinks. Basically, the ideal crew for most of the ships is a pilot, a gunner, and a carpenter (repairer, maintenance technician, gunner's mate, whatever). Essentially, there is no cost for participation unless you want to be the pilot of a ship (in which case you must own the ship)... and my ships are intentionally priced considerably cheaper than other vehicles of a similar (and often even inferior) calibre. Anyway, this thread will be one of several ways to keep in touch about any upcoming naval battle events (main events will be Wednesdays at 7:00 pm, practice events will be either Sundays or Mondays). Every Wednesday, we'll do some sort of scenario... generally just pitting a fleet against another fleet (2-3 ships vs. 2-3 ships). I'll post the results on the forum, and eventually I'll start keeping a running scoreboard of captains and how many ships they've sunk, etc. Our home sim is currently Sanchon, and we collaborate a great deal with Vagabonds Yacht Club (of Pixeleen Mistral) and sailboat racers in general. We support the opening up of waterways throughout SL, and are helping to secure several nice sailing locations, including some private sims still on the drawing board such as the Cozy Cays, and Noland Brokken's planned new island. Bobby Troughton's Pirate Pub in Sanchon currently serves as our gathering place. Chuina Asturias, Static Sprocket, Bobby Troughton, Pixeleen Mistral, and TonyRockyHorror Hauptman are all contributing to development of new things for the games (like scripted whirlpools, sharks, new ship designs), land acquisition, water clearing, and event planning. If you're interested, join the PiratesOfSL group ![]() --I'll be posting the results of yesterday's blockade later today |

Summary and Results of Wednesday's Blockade Engagement
02-23-2006 22:58
Noland Brokken commanded Red Fleet, which consisted of his own ship and crew of two, and TonyRockyHorror and his crew of two, both in standard ships.
Chase Speculaas lead Blue Fleet, crewing on Bobby Troughton's Sloop for the first engagement, and Watsnu Pussycat commanded a standard ship with a crew of two. Scoring: Ship sunk: 15 points for the opposition Ship successfully through the blockade: 30 points First Engagement: Red Fleet: Blockade, Blue Fleet: Blockade Runners While originally pursuing a strategy of running Bobby's sloop through the blockade while Watsnu provided covering fire and attempted to draw off the enemy ships, SL was being gay and Bobby crashed... leaving me on an unpiloted ship which was sailing around in a perpetual and useless circle... well... not too useless, since I still managed to incapacitate an enemy ship which Watsnu finished off. 15 points to Blue ![]() Watsnu then made it through the blockade. 30 points to Blue. But... sitting duck that it was... Bobby's sloop was sunk by the remaining Red ship. 15 points to Red. Total points for first engagement: Red: 15, Blue: 45 The Crashings: Unfortunately, SL was being very odd at the time. Almost everyone's computers crashed at least once, but oddly there was no lag... just an odd out-of-the blue, sporadic crashing the likes of which I've never seen before. Don't know what was going on, since there was hardly any lag at all --- the sim was running smooth as honey. And then BAM! Someone drops. And it's not that the sim was crashing, either, it's just be one person at a time, crashing... gah, nevertheless, we managed to start the second engagement only 5 minutes behind schedule. Second Engagement: Red: Blockade Runners, Blue: Blockade Because Watsnu had to leave because he was crashing multiple times, Chase delayed the game for 5 minutes and attempted to rebuild the already-too-small fleet. Unfortunately, although there were many spectators present, they were mostly too intimidated to participate (I think they overestimated the seriousness of the event). So, Blue Fleet had to make do with Chase in on heavily armed (although pitifully unmaneuverable) 6 cannon Barge and Bobby manning his own ship with no crew either. Chase attempted to cork up the opening into the next sim with his large ship (not a sexual innuendo!!!) while Bobby attempted to advance on the enemy and engage them near the docks. Multiple computer crashes pretty much invalidated the results of this engagement, but we still bore on and saw it too its bitter end. Bobby was quickly sunk (possibly due in part to friendly fire from Chase's Barge due to a misunderstanding of sail color)(15 points Red), and Noland and his crew made it through the breach into Jinsil (30 points Red). Amid the confusion, Chase let off a deadly and nearly point-blank volley from his 3 starboard cannons at Tony's ship. Tony (who had been moored at the docks) was just barely able to set sail before his ship was completely incapacitated. Fortunately (for Tony) Chase had run out of ammunition and was not able to pursue because the wind was not at a suitable angle for his square rigged ship. Tony's ship continued on with it's momentum into the Yurim sim to the east, and became beached on the shores there. Total Points for second engagment: Blue: 0, Red: 45 SUM TOTAL: Red Fleet: 60 Blue Fleet: 45 |
