For your customers: get rid of alpha floors!

As an inveterate nightclubber in SL, I am constantly amazed at the almost universality of floors with alpha textures. I understand the artistic or spectacle creating desires of the club owners, but consider your customers, please? An alpha textured floor ruins the effect of all the invisiprims used to create elegant shoes. Of what use is it to anyone, if the shoes on our feet turn to weirdly colored concrete blocks on your pretty floor?

If the floor uses an alpha texture, it will mess up invisiprim using shoes. Please do us all a favor by getting rid of your alpha textured floor.

Gives me more reason to open a club and use alpha. Quit whining.

I'm curious - are they used a lot? I've only seen anim texture floors, but I don't club a lot. If I wanted to get into the business, I'd keep alpha off the floors as much as poss because most of the customers would be in invisiprim shoes.

Is it really that much of a silly whine? I don't see it.

Not only that Govi, but the alpha floors, walls, etc are performance killers since Occlusion Culling will no longer limit the number of surfaces being drawn. It's one reason I rarely go to any of the "fancy" malls - I can't move due to enormous prim drawing demands the alpha surfaces impose.

A typical example of glass block shoes
07-27-2006 21:15
A picture would say it all, but no picture posting. :rolleyes: To underline my point--no one likes her attractive shoes to look like they're encased in weird glass blocks. Guys are affected by this, too; men who wear boots tricked out with invisiprims. Please do us a favor and get rid of the alpha textured floors and thereby give us back our elegant shoes.

You could changeyour shoes instead of asking club owners to change their club because of your fashion choice. But while we are on topic. Why don't you change your shirt and skirt? It totally makes my outfit look like crap because your colors clash with mine.

Hey if you expect others to change things because of what you wear, give others the same respect. Now put on blue, it goes with my suit.

I don't think they'll miss you if you decide not to come back.

Since it's the clubs that are built to attract visitors (to make money off them) and not the other way around ... i think that's actually a good tip for club owners to consider. Invisi-prim shoes are widespread in SL, people buy them because they are concerned with their looks. If then a place they go to make this very thing they focus on, improvement of their looks ... not as nice, they are likely to move on to another place which doesn't affect them in such manner.

It's up to club owner of course, but in this particular case keeping alpha floors just to prove one is in charge of their property ... is kinda like cutting off the nose to spite the face o.O;

Chill Jonas, don't go into a Libertarian melt-down... :)

She does have a point. Almost all womens shoes have invisiprims in them. It's really the only way to get heels in SL. I think that people using alpha textures in club floors just haven't had it occure to them that in interacts badly with most womens shoes.

Of course, that won't be a problem if I ever have a club. I'm going for black painted concrete, with bits of dirty gum ground in.

If you don't like a club (for any reason) then don't go to it. If enough other people feel that way too the club will close due to lack of numbers. If enough people like the club despite the thing you don't like it will remain open, and you can just not go to it.

Or just ignore the problem, in the same way we ignore countless other graphical deficencies in SL.

Her point is probably valid and a good concern, and it's even a good idea to let club owners know about it.

Her delivery method for doing this is absurd. If you go to a grocery store, and don't like the color of their floor tiles because it clashes with your shoes, do you demand that all grocery stores change their floors to match your shoes?

If you don't like clubs that use these types of animated floors, don't go to them. Or continue to go to them, and simply deal with the minor inconvenience. Or find out who manages the club and drop them an IM explaining the technical difficulty and make it a suggestion rather than a demand.

"Hey, I really love your club, but I noticed that your floor animates with alpha, and it really makes invisiprim shoes look weird. I know a lot of people use these kinda shoes, and if I may suggest, it would be really cool to remove the alpha from the floor. Thanks!"

Kind words and gentle understanding go a long way with humans. And furries, and everything else in this world too. :-) Except maybe griefers. Even then, if you can get a griefer to open up to you, you'll discover why they do what they do.

Is this the reason my flexi-prim skirts disappear on some floor surfaces?

Yes Lillie. Skirts with alpha work like those you can get at dazzle will dissappear sometimes when overlapping with an alpha'd floor texture.

I stand corrected on the money making aspect, had no idea people build these places to burn the L$ ^^ the main point still stands despite, though... that is, if the club is built so people can come and have good time, isn't making it in way that negatively affects the appearance of guests and perhaps their enjoyment... counter-productive? o.O;

Its not burning money.. i am fortunate enough that i can do it and its a way of giving back to the community when they have given me so much these last 3 years. Because of my customers, I have my sim and land on the main land. Burning no.

Govindira made a good point, not necessary clubs, but any alpha floors, makes shoes awful ugly. Prim shoes have that invisible prim so it is true!!

Govindira is giving a good tip to club owners where she can go an enjoy and look great.

And my point is just as valid, Palomma. There is no requirement to wear shoes with invisiprims. It is a fashion choice.

Don't like the effect the floor has? don't go.

But NEVER tell others to change based on YOUR fashion choices.

You know what drives me up a wall? All these things like local lights, etc, and yet, hardly utilized at all. 'Problems' like this, in which club owners wish to alleviate are as simple as building a 1-8 prim floor with tiles. Add a script that cycles colors with local lights, and slap a texture on it. Bam, disco is back - no alpha required.

Srsly. Why hasn't this been done yet?
