BTW, in RL, my town has a classifieds paper with various cheap classifieds on a page -- just name, 2-3 lines + telephone per ad.
First the classifieds looked like this, because they are sorted alphabetically: Bricks... Car repair... Ceiling repair.... TV service... ... Until, someone found out the the character '!' sorts BEFORE all other characters on the advertiser's machine. Then it started to look like this !Scubadiving gear... Bricks... Car repair... Ceiling repair.... TV service... ... (Notice the first entry is the one with the ! character.) For a time, the Scubadiving gear (example) enjoyed the first position. UNTIL someone other found out that 2 ! chars are sorted before one ! character, so it looked like this: !!Car repair... !Scubadiving gear... Bricks... Ceiling repair.... TV service... ... Once more people realized the rules, nowdays it looks like this: !!!!!!!!!TV service... !!!!Car repair... !!!Scubadiving gear... !!Bricks... !Ceiling repair.... ... The result: well, try to locate anything, since it's no more in alphabetical order, tough luck ![]() |

Capslock for EMPHASIS such as in TITLES and such is fine with me, as it has been for hundreds of years of human literature (in my timeline, anyway). But ALL CAPS EVERYWHERE? THAT'S LIKE EATING A WHOLE CAKE MADE OUTTA ICING!
NO THANKS *WHISPERS* I WOULD LIKE TO SEE SOME InterCaps PERHAPS BUT NOT ALL ALL CAPS... ALL CAPS = ALL CRAPS ![]() *smiles softly and pounces away* _____________________

Here's a good enough starting point for the typographically challenged:
http://graphicdesign.about.com/cs/designbasics/a/typographyrules.htm (I don't necessarily agree serif is always easier to read than sans-serif, but it's good otherwise). Like the article states, all caps is hard to read. The ascenders (the upper part of "d" ![]() ![]() From a strict design perspective, you could get away with using all caps for a short headline, if you have your reasons, but online it's generally seen as shouting and obnoxious. Use it in chat for emphasis, because we don't have access to proper formatting like in the forum or in desktop publishing. But if you emphasize everything, then essentially nothing is emphasized. |

Does your local newspaper not have subeditors? I think it has as many subeditors as the SL Events system has ![]() |

We Need Something
02-11-2005 14:38
Ok Im guilty of it too. But we need somthing like color or a different font.
There are many types of events. Some where the host does not need to talk and some where the host needs to be heard over everyone else. The solution so far has been the use of a Microphone that repeats and capitalizes what is said. So if you dont like that solution, then come up with something better. All thought it may be annoying to some, the students in classes need to see what the instructor says. And in other events, plays or competitive events - the hosts needs to be heard over the crowd and players. In order to provide good instruction and everyone sees it! As most of you know, some onlookers will show up at an event after its started and fill the screen with chatter about what is going on here. If instructors/events hosts had colored text, it would become SL industry standard of class instruction/events. Also, tagging on to another thread, some of form of categorizing the different events would in the Event Listing may also help cut down on mass chaos and untimely interruptions. |
