Psyra, yer on the track I was thinking about. I'd love to be able to "disinclude" certain search parameters, say "casino", to clear out the listings, make it manageable. But ... if I wanna look for that, I'd like the option to "re-enable" that search parameter.
If we the users have the tools to select and de-select sorting options things will get better for everyone, masses and minorities.
A Everyone will be able to support events important to them
B No one will be forced to waste time looking at extraneous listings
C Folks listing stuff that no one wants to see will find that they're not getting "hits" as the population further weeds out the "don't wants" from the "wants"
D Folks that bother to create events that larger sections of the population desire will receive prominence with their target audience
E Events that target minority or selective audiences will be better served by receiving sub-category primacy (tea kettle juggling enthusiasts will search for and find their events easily and won't miss them amoungst weddings, partys, gallery openings and plate juggling events), furthering a diverse and interesting SL environment
F No one will be able to pull political popularity maneuvers, as it will be one avie, one vote
But that's just me.
Boolean search params? Don't most of us know them well enough to be considered for use here? Keyword + or - lists would be a fine tool as well.

How about allowing us a mute-list-style filtering option? Allow us to click on an event organizer and choose "exclude this person's events from list."

Linden deletes posts that violate 'the rules'.

From: Jesse Linden OK, so I'm simply going through and deleting events that are obviously in violation of the posting rules. How are you notifying the poster that their post has been deleted and why?

Quick and easy temporary solution for Linden:
Write a little script to run a few times a day to automatically search the events and move all events with certain keywords like 'sale, buy, store' to the Commercial category.
Add a search to the dropdown for all non-Commercial events.
You have a SQL database so this is low time, effort, costs, with a good return. Costs less than having a Linden sit for hours every day going through events, reading every one of them, deleting, responding to 'why was my event deleted' emails.
After that, let residents report inappropriate events to the Live Help group for review. At the end of each day, Live Help can send a list of clickable URLs to a Linden who can quickly go through and look at just those events. These people can also send new search keywords to be added to the script as people come up with 'clever' ways to get around it.
And AR people who abuse the Event list. Same as any other abuse, warning, formal warning, suspension, etc.
It's not perfect, but it's an easy, low cost, temporary solution that would quickly bring a relief.

From: someone How are you notifying the [event] poster that their [event] has been deleted and why? Are events actually being policed and removed?

A few days back ziphren Moonflower posted having problems with the search. I was also at times and other times it was fine. I tracked down the problem. Bascially if you go to page 2 of the events for a day (via the next button at the bottom) and then do a search it will say "none found". At this point you will see a previous button at the bottom, which if you click it you will see the results from your search. So the fix is either to be on page 1 of the events for the day or hit the previous button at the bottom to get back to page 1 after a search.
This is clearly a bug and I hope it can be fixed at some point. But at least there is a work around for it.

From: Jesse Linden OK, so I'm simply going through and deleting events that are obviously in violation of the posting rules when I have the time (which is not much)...however there are so many and growing...that this is going to become and increasingly unwieldly task. The problem now is that people are using the events calendar because its free and the classifieds aren't. since we dont want to start charging people to post events, any ideas on what we could try to get rid of some of the clutter?
on the flip side, are people sorting by category ? we get a lot of complaints that the calendar is unreadable but it seems people are rarely using the categories. They work fine for me... your feedback is appreciated. I know its been a while since you posted this Jessie but here is my suggestions The categories work. There should be a splash page where ppl first have to decide the category then they are taken to the correct page. Post something to the affect that it is important that they choose the correct category. Perhaps just deteting their entry entirly if they do not cooperate. Right now its a free for all and ppl are taking advantage of this free service. No I don't think that's right. I bet your worn out. hugz Cat

Biggest event listing abuser can be a great asset when designing new event listings
01-23-2006 00:29
From: Joy Honey Funny, the most popular place is the biggest abuser of the events listing... really... shocking They are the most popular but they break all the rules. Seems as if folks respond positively to their way of posting. It may be a good idea to include reps from this place and other populars places and ask them what they need the event listings to look like.

It seems like LLabs is targets some people DIRECT and letting others slip by. Strange some get warning and other don`t. Shakes head and thinks.......why is there a double standard. I had all my events pulled down and anotehr club with the same type of events posted there stood up? why? Tell me Jesse Linden are you REALLY reviewing all clubs posting in events or just the ones you want to target......I have im jesse about this issue only to get a canned rely with no real answer to why mine were take down. I know the rules about posting and i stayed in the rules area. Please be alittle more to the point jesse instead of beating around the bush. Warning are serious issue and only should me give after its fulling understood WHY they were give. What strange is Jesse im me and told me to watch it........then he throws a warning at me refering to me i am breaking the rules? what the heck? I did not post anymore event after his first im and then a warning? Some thing is wrong here and some people facts are way out of wack! Why give me a warnign after i have not posted any event after the last im?
