No poll.

(Help me out if I missed some)

Great Historic SL Drama's that aroused the rabble into threating to walk:

Prim taxes
Permission to buy/sell L$'s with US$
The FIC

Prokovy's ban (thanks Isablan! :))
Removal of Ratings Bonuses
GOMing GOM

Freebie Sellers
Removal of Developer Income
Land Swooping

Camping Chairs
The Ever Falling L$ value

Removal of Dwell Bonuses
Removal of Basic Stipends
Conversion from TeleHub to P2P teleport
RezMods
The Anti-Bush Sign Guy

Texture Theft
Loosening of Account Creation validation

Age-Play furor (Thanks Wuvme! :))
The Snapshot Upgrade
Griefers and Grid attacks
Bugs and Downtime, and inconvenient fixes.
Emminent closure of Sandbox/General/L&E/.../... forums
This week's recent Security Exploit

So, what next?

I figure at some point when Havok(v?) hits the preview grid
and starts breaking things there will be yet another great
wailing and gnashing of teeth, but there will surely be several
"OMG! This is the last F'ing straw!" changes before then.

So let's hear it... what do you think they will be?

You forgot to add the "Child Avie sex scandal" thingy everyone was talking about.

I was thinking the great prim baby scandal, but only a few people threatened to leave over that and nobody really cared whether they did or not, so it technically doesn't fit your requirements.

That said, I think the penultimate SL scandal will be when LL sells us to Google....

What about everyone flaring up about Goreans recently? Or has that been going for some time now? :o

LL actually comes right out and says, "Fuck you. We'll do whatever we want to do."

Sycophants immediately rush to defend the move, helped along by the fact that any dissenters have their remarks immediately deleted.

LL doesn't need to say it.

And considering the whinging going on, you'd think they already had anyway.

My problem is with people that are puffed up with their own self-importance tromping about demanding responses from LL like they're some sort of elected Metatron of the United Peoples of SecondLife.

LL's empowered to do whatever they feel is right for their business by, well, reality. Reality empowers them to make a mess of it, and to try to hide behind bravado and glad-handing, if they want to.

We can huff and puff all we want with our demands, but if we want results it is our responsibility to find effective ways to get our message through.

Hoping that LL is just going to hand us the power to tell them how to run their business is a pipe dream, and the false impression of it is undoubtedly the fault of someone in their marketing department. ;)

Anyway. Yeah I stick up for LL often when folks verbally attack them on the forums... (particularly a certain L.N.), but it's mostly because I think pissing LL off isn't necessarily the right way to try to make them sympathetic to our demands. Flies and honey or vinegar and all that.

On the contrary, getting in the proverbial face of a company is sometimes the only way to get it to straighten up. That's why people do it, and smart companies read the writing on the wall and respond.

LL appears to prefer an "ostrich policy" approach, which is ... unconventional, to say the least. I'm curious to see how it goes for them, but I'm also sad to say that I think I know what to expect, eventually, if it continues to be their policy.

Well, that's kind of funny, Jopsy.

Like you, I don't blame them for this hacking. Even if it is "their fault" (which I doubt), it's certainly not something they ever intended.

Taking away the passwords was also, I figure (not being a techy person), a good thing to do. (Waiting two days and then doing it on Friday, well, I don't know the reasoning behind that.)

But doing it on Friday and announcing that no one can do anything about it until Monday if they are having trouble getting back in seems entirely wrong to me.

Even SO, I re-read Robin's post, and - as I posted earlier - it seems quite likely that they would have to get their ducks in order, about what to accept for verification and how to do it, since so many people are needing it done. That could be the reason for why not before Monday.

And even THAT isn't written in stone, as Robin has said that if they can do it before Monday, they will announce that.

And - as I've said already - I'm sure that the Lindens will make it right for everyone, and no one will be stuck out forever. The Lindens don't want that, and they will do their best to get everyone squared away.

BUT - this notion about flies and vinegar and honey is just kinda funny, along with it supposedly being "our responsibility to find effective ways to get our message through."

In case you hadn't noticed, they are rapidly REMOVING our effective ways to get our message through. And they are removing what messages do get through on whims, not on vinegar content.

Not everybody is going to want to chase them to their blogs, get shut out there, etc., forever.

One could make just as good a case (and, I think, a better one) that it is the LL's responsibility to listen to their customers. And that IS what will be best for their bottom line, in my opinion.

Well, I agree that giving our issues serious consideration and response is certainly not a bad business move, providing they can staff up for it. But General, Sandbox, L&E ? These are "Effective" areas of communication? Please... most of sandbox has nothing to do with SL anyway.

My point is that if we care about our message to SL it is our responsibility to convey it with as high a chance of success as possible.

Sure getting attention by unpopular methods works too. Doesn't necessary provide an advantage to being taken seriously though, unless there are harmful threats included, which, will be taken seriously but far more defensively.

Anyway, no biggy.

I still think we're missing some key Dramafests on the list...

How about the forum ban of Prokovy? That was good for several weeks of people threatening to leave....as many others offered to hold the door for them :D

With the Second Life security model as it is, I'm amazed we haven't seen severe worm and virus attacks spread through the system.

I predict the next great drama will be SL not working in Vista.

I doubt this will become a drama issue for a while, nobody remotely sane completely switches to a brand new Microsoft OS product before Service Pack 1 is out. ;)

I'm glad those forums are going, personally.

I suppose in a case like this, one could take the issue to the Technical forum?
