I make and sell guns (amongst other things). You are quite free to enter any of my property holding, bearing, or wearing a firearm of any sort, though I will look askance at you if you chat to me whilst pointing the thing at me.

In general, I find that Caledon is very tolerant of such things - it's rudeness that's the issue.

Exactly! I've flown around wearing the chemical rocket pack a friend made and carrying my electric gatling rifle...never had a word said about it. I've also wandered all the sims with a shotgun and thinning the duck population. :) I class the paranoid antigunners in the same category as the pushy gunbunnies that want to shoot everywhere....both rude in their extremism.

Long as I am not getting shot at and the other person does not go into first person/target mode, I am not bothered by the mere sight of a gun. Those that are bothered even by unscripted props come off as somewhat derranged. (do we have an asylum in Caledon for hysterical people....or do we just ship them to the mainland to become Lindens? :) )

A stranger shows up on my land wearing guns, am I going to welcome him/her? No, nore tben likely I am going to be wary and assume they may start trouble. If the gun appaers in thier hand I may eject and ban them from my land without waiting for the them to shoot it.

Guns are not a fashion accessory, they inspire fear and at best will make people you don't know distrust you.

If your absolutely terrified of prim guns I think there is a deeper issue with you than with me to be honest.

The funny thing is I find myself advocating on the side of the gun nuts just because the sheer argument is silly *Note* I rarely wear my guns around, I usually save that when I'm going for a specific look or hitting a combat sim.

Meh whatever. I'm always armed with a Psitek and orbz anyways. Do I ever use them? On griefers yeah.

I have a concealed carry weapons permit in real life and yes I do wear it in a holster in view. Why? Because i'm exercising my 2nd ammendment rights. In Second Life I do the same thing, someone may not like it but if I'm not using it then oh well. If someone asks me to take it off I'll leave simple as that, the only exception are places with a theme or roleplay and I will respect that.

You wouldn't expect to walk through most civilized urban areas wearing guns and 'occasionally firing a shot', would you? What makes you think it's OK here? Second Life is NOT a first person shooter game. Nor is it the Wild West.

You want to play with or wear guns in SL? Go to a combat sim, like Jesse or Rausch. If it isn't posted as a combat area, you're quite likely to be tagged as a griefer for wearing them in public.

Personally, I don't care if they are completely unscripted and welded to your Avatar's legs. Their visual presence is disturbing and unwelcome. They are not welcome near my home, and you'll be asked to take them off anywhere near me, if I control that area. And yes, refusing to do so when I ask politely could very well get you banned from at least three sims that I control ban lists for.

Same for me and my areas. :)

I wait for my scripted weppon scanner to fire and auto ban them.

The only promlem with it is should be called the "moving scripted, pet, toy, or anything else not atatched scanner"

I get about 20% false triggers. The scanner IM's me the object name and I can then log in if it is still there and unban the person if it is a pet.

I am also working on a wall mouted "Emergency phone" that will let anyone in the group to teleport and report anyone else. It will of course IM me at the same time.

Edit: It's free and open source.
It's under the larger tree right next to the money tree in Charissa (250, 165, 125)

Excuse me folks but I have the right to do whatever I want to do on my own land. Gun owners have the same right as far as their weapons are concerned. I didn't force them to bring machine guns to my place. They show up on my land they get an auto-ban. They are exercising their right to have weapons and I am excercising my right to give them the boot.

I may scold them a little first, after I freeze them, but that's life.

okay, a lot of bullshit in this thread, a lot of peoples wear guns on hips or back usually these guns are simple props, drawn guns are in hands and in aiming or hip shooting pose. So i won't ban anybody wearing a gun on his hip by prevention (and who do this is a damn idiot)

it is as silly as asking peoples not to wear borsalino cause they could be gangsters. And for the global ban list, you will know that for instance you don't risk to be added to the SL-Guard list for that.

A lot of peoples are pretty childish in SL, but even more are even more agressive to protect their little self.

bunch of fuckers in both cases

Anyone can make their rules in their lands... I dont allow guns in mine period...

But is my land, I dont care what people do in others. Guns or not, they can kill themselves, do anything they want with guns, as long as is not in my land.

I dont think asking someone to detach a gun in their land is an idiot. I dont consider myself an idiot because I want them off my land.

Why would you get upset because I want to put rules in my land of not having guns and ask people to detach them? I pay for my land, therefore if I dont want guns, I tell them, simple as that.

In general, I find that Caledon is very tolerant of such things - it's rudeness that's the issue.

Given the victorian theme in Caledon it isn't unusual for some gentlemen to carry firearms, and as far as the gentlemen (and ladies) that have dropped by my place, those that were simply wearing them did not pose any problems (especially with push restrictions in place I think some of us are even more tolerant).

There's also the fact that we do have hunting rifles for those pesky ducks that have been flying all over the place.

Of course not all homes and shops welcome even the bearing of arms. Please note that a lot of young ladies (particularly those of gentle and retiring nature) find the sight of guns stressful (and to some steely maiden would think it as a sign of challenge of authority). If a home or establishment asks you politely (and many will, we Caledonians tend to be civilized folk) to hide them, then please do so. You are a visitor after all, and wouldn't it be rudeness to deny a simple request from your host? :)

Where I am, you're not a griefer unless you start acting like one. I don't personally like to assume the worst in anyone, because how would I feel, if other people would assume the worst in me without knowing me first?

I don't think that there's anything wrong with this, personally.

The reason I eject and ban people with weapons on my land is simply because someone with a gun is far more likely to take a shot at me than someone withoult a gun, and far too many people try to shoot me than I'm comfortable with.

For what it's worth, I don't extend the same rule to friends who come over with a weapon that's built into their outfit. I'm not some kind of anti-gun nut in SL *or* RL. However, my I've had far too many bad experiences with getting shot by people bristling with weapons.

If I wanted a gun heavy enviroment, I'd go play a first person shooter. I'll also say that I'm not likely to hang out in an enviroment where the owner permits people to run around with weapons. Not because I'm paranoid, but again, because people carrying a gun, or even wearing one as part of their costume are likely to see shooting you as a leginimate extension of their "Role Play". I have no desire to take part in that, so I go preferentally go places where there are no gun rules in effect.

After reading all the comments about wearing guns i must say the only thing comes to mind is ... this a game... well sorta.

I admit, griefers make all gun owners in sl look bad but thats not fair to people who own guns and use them responsibly.

A little off subject ... but if ya wanna put a dent in griefing... start complaining to land owners that offer freebie guns!!! WHY? Cause i get griefed all day every day... and 9 out of 10 times its some newbie with a crap load of freebie weapons.

Has anybody ever accused you of griefing just because you had guns ?

Yeah, but I can't do anything about it, can I?
