i guess the stars are my fault. I sugested people use them.

Instead of being whiney i tried to be proactive and come up with a way you could leave positive feed back on peoples posts, they have always been there I just brought attention to them. I guess i should have realized that they could be used for being a butthead too.

i just thought it would be a nice way to say "i liked what i saw" becuase the no reply system does kind of leave it all in the open what people think and feel.

The stars were a good idea actually - and an appropriate use of them. It is a shame also that someone has to ruin that as well. No way of rating or acknowledging is going to be perfect - but it was nice and anonymous and gave a way for it to feel more democratic and valid than just a bunch of "WOOT THAT THIS HOT" posts. If only we were as well behaved as the teen grid.

I made a comment today, not targetting anyone and on topic. Then the thread gets derailed by a direct personal attacks on me, with lies about previous behavior. I reported it, yet nothing is done about it.

Surely, you didn't expect any sort of overt action, right?

I mean LL is fucking hopeless when it comes to effectively managing the forums.

On this point, I could not agree more.

Apparently I'm the only one who is *glad* the comments were dropped from the New Products section.

No, Cali, all the grownups were glad comments were dropped.

Barnes, you diabolical trouble-maker! Without you pointing the stars out the idea would never've entered their pointy heads!

Without the comments, it suddenly became easy to tell what was an actual new product post and what wasn't, making it much easier to 'browse'.

I agree. I was glad to find out the New Products forum was going to be Post Only. It made window shopping a lot easier, faster, and easier to sort out the new stuff from the old. Plus it gives new guys a chance for their products to stay in the front page longer.

I feel terrible right now. I feel I am getting thrown stick and stones...

I *am* one of the people who replied in the New Products.
I saw some people having convos there and called them idiots in my head, a few days ago, and then, today, I went on and posted one myself. Meh >.>
I HATE myself because I clicked the damn Submit Post button now, I am sorry I did.
But Sensual's post made me react and for ONCE (I rarely do, check my posts if you want) I decided to react by posting. Bleh.
Anyways my decision is taken, I will *not* use the stars anymore. Neither will I argue or let people know my feelings, it *always* ends up someone is not happy no matter how polite you say what you think or blahblahblah etc.
Sorry if I made some of you's day shitty because of the blab. I guess...

Didn't we just fight tooth and claw for them to let us KEEP the new products forums?

And now its a big bowl of wheeties for everyone to piss in?

Fuck!

If the Lindens nuke the shit out of them now and ppl whine about not having them anymore - guess what folks:

ZERO FUCKING SYMPATHY...

..Life's tough - get a helmet.

I've had the same feeling today. I'm not sure if I even care to post there anymore.

One the one hand, I've seen my gold stars (school again?) drop consistantly every time I've posted something, so I know some twat is going through and giving it 1 or 2. That's fine. I expected that. Allowing anonymous ratings is a retarded thing to do anyway, since we saw how gloriously neg rates were used in world. With anonymity comes asshattery. Nothing new there.

On the other hand, I've also watched peoples' legitimate product threads shuffle off the mortal coil of the front page so that people could hold 1 post/multiple thread conversations, thereby fucking over the same people they were trying to defend. Not the answer to the problem!

I won't be using the star rating system. If people can't decide what they like without seeing how others respond to it first, then they're too wishy-washy for me to worry about anyway.

I agree anonymity is a powerful thing. I say NO STARS, COMMENTS ALLOWED but NO BUMPING. Everyone should get a fair shot to show their new products...that is the whole point isnt it? Who agrees with this?

I'm reposting this from another thread as it is of broadbase curiosity.

Here goes:

From: someone
OKEYDOKE VBULLETIN WIZARDS WAZZUP! :D

The reason why I pronounce this so loudly is because past the initial FFR (Future Feature Request), we have a lead! What's especially hilarious may be that it seems (again, I don't know for sure, askin' for wizardry here) that this SORT THREAD BY CREATION DATE has been requested by vBulletin users for awhile now, but is not a builtin feature! :(

New info sez the following:

http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=120165

This was just posted a few days ago too.

Now, one of the vBulletin devs, Andreas says...
"It's OK with the license agreement, but we can't give support for modified boards.
So if you run into problems, you must reload the original files first before we can help you.
That's the deal."

So... I could understand that Lindens wouldn't want to start pulling apart the works like a cuckoo clock.

I too want the benefits that "yes reply, no bump" provides.

However it seems like a more elegant solution is needed.

I am for this and for benefiting my fellow Resis.

Anyone know? :)

If we start amassing our collective power on it maybe we can find something out.

Now's as good a time as any!

Connexions from the vBulletins forums... plugging them into here... knowledge is power! Looks like from other things I've gleaned that it's been a requested supported feature for awhile now. There's a strangely soothing comfort in knowing we aren't alone in the universe.

Are you adults or 7th graders? People whine about classifieds all the time, they should just close them and make people pay in world, so everyone will shut the hell up.

A list of the various complaints to date...

No one posts in my threads *pout*
People post in threads with ugly shit, but not my threads *pout*
People are just bumping their friends threads *pout*
It is a popularity contest! Well, duh.
Hey! I am getting rated low!
Why do some people have more stars than others?

Blah fucking blah. Whoever isn't popular enough or gets enough attention bitches. Let the sales speak for the quality of your items not forums posts or ratings. Bond movies always get bad reviews but do well at the theatre. Tell the critics to kiss your ass and keep stepping. Good grief.

AMEN!
