Ketra, I would love to take you up on that offer. I can script (and have the *very* rudimentary beginnings of a predator) but am not what you'd call a builder of much note. A collaboration would be just the ticket I think.

Sounds like fun :) Any basic idea what you want it to look like? If not, I can come up with some questions that can shape it.

IM me IW or here and we can talk. :)

I'm up for this - I've wanted to do this kind of thing since I joined but never quite got around to it. I have a couple of critters (flying eyeball, tentacle), but they don't interact with each other.
That said, work still calls.... :)

In case anyone missed it Ecosystem Working Group meeting tonight.

Meeting at Hypatia Park, Hypatia (71, 178, 42) on Tue May 18 8p SLT.

Look for us by the bay.

Also, there have been several generous offers of sim space for this project, the most recent being kerunix Flan, who has allowed the working group to set up shop in Terminus. At least 2 other sim owners have expressed an interest in similar arrangements, and I will be talking with them as well, but feel free to drop by Terminus. The ground is in the process of being terraformed for us by Sampson Suntzu, so it's not in working order yet. I have, however set up a colony of my bugs and several reproduce-on-touch flowers whose seeds they eat. But that's just for playing around. Before we really set anything up I'd like to get people to agree on somekind of "API" for species interaction...but we can talk about that in "person".

I can't code worth beans, but I'm a reasonable builder.. If I can help, let me know. From a design standpoint, I'd love to see a mix of both Organic-styled lifeforms and Technological ones. (Not Tech vs Bio, just a mix) A kind of biotech ecosystem. :) But let me know if a scripter needs a body for an animal/bug or something.
Ah will be needin` a body-builder. Ah programs OK, but Ah haven`t a clue yet how ta build. Ah thought Ah`d start wi` a floatin` sphere, an` look fer a body-builder later, but it`d sure be nice ta have a body-builder on-tap right from th` start!

Ah expects ta be in-world foah th` first time in less than nine hours from now, SNAFU permittin`. Ah`d like ta have some folks join me foah a Birth Day Get-Acquainted party then; y`all`re invited, Ketra! Jes` IM me ta find out when an` where. Feel free ta bring a friend or two.

I'll see what I can do. Unfortunately, I'm working until 8pm SLT, but I'll try to log in as soon as I can.

This sounds very similar to the Pet Protocol on the LSL wiki. Are they one in the same? If not you may want to have a chat to bUTTONpUSHER Jones.

IM me in world. Or I'll IM you. :)

We have a very good possibility of a second sim right now, with a vastly larger number of prims available.

As soon as that deal is finalized, I'll post about it.

And let me be the first to say how cool Ketra's critter designs are. What she came up with for me in 15 minutes would have taken me...well, I probably couldn't have come up with it. :D

Ok, my prelim critters are in a box on the observation deck. Anyone can take a copy. They're untextured and full perm so they can be made to look like however someone may want.

I'll be making more.. I may split it up into multiple boxes based one *reccomended* critter type. Obviously they can be used however.

breeding gridlice population seems to be persisting at Terminus.

I've flipped on the "can reproduce" flag in Never Rust's code snippets for the first time last night, and after much tweaking of parameters, I think I've found birth/death rates that allow for a relatively stable population size.

The reproducing gridlice queens and their drones are underwater, in a cove at Terminus 125,198,15. and also at 54,182,18

They are competing for food right now with an old generation, controller-spawned gridlouse and her drone, as well as an immortal fish by Jaime Spackler.

In addition to Never's Food Spore Mushrooms, they are subisting off a plants that are "alive" or "dead' based on cellular automaton rules (a la the "Game of life";).

If they're gone, it means they begin to birth babies a little too fast. But it's been stable since late last night. (although perhaps update down time dulled things up a little).

Yes, I've been to Svarga many times. Love it. An inspiration for what we're trying to do at Terminus.
