Are you ready for the value of your waterfront land to triple overnight?

Ah, it finally happened; the cool thing my ancient-ass Quadro2 Pro doesn't support. That water is sweet.

That next to the last picture, from the bottom of the sea looking up into the skies, gives some good ideas about cloud formations. When are they going to do something about sky, clouds and weather?

Anyone have luck posting pics from 1.8 to Snapzilla?
12-03-2005 10:36
I took a ton of waterside pics but they don't appear to be there. Nay mind, I'll go back and take some more later. Can't wait til this hits the main grid (smug waterfront property owner *grins*)

I think outgoing email (which may include the snapshot-to-email functionality) may be disabled on the preview grid, IIRC.

Cory, those pics are stunningly beautiful.

They really need to fix the underwater fog effect, so we can have more of a caribbean reef look instead of a "muddy pond" look. The second picture from the last shows the structures crystal clear, but solid black. Yuck.

I wonder why this won't work on a Ti4600, especially when SL is OpenGL based, and such a card has no problem with this...

Does the new water splash and make rings around you when you jump into it? :o

Aw mans I wish. Maybe in 1.9.

One thing I noticed (and it may have been because I was looking at snapshots and not directly through her monitor) but my esteemed colleague Toast Bard seemed to get a better resolution on the ripple effect than I was able to. It is due to her more styley graphics card? Cause I'll bite the bullet and upgrade if that's the case.

No, but it would be really awesome if it did.

Are the waves a more reasonable height than with the old wave effect? I always keep it turned off or else it penetrates the basement of my house. This new system looks a million times better.

For some reason all the pics look like SL's water's had an oil slick to me! I need to log into preview to check it out for myself, I'm thinking it looks more like water when it moves ;)

PS. Just noticed that Foresti's made the same observation. Glad it's not just me!

Do these fancy ripples cause any more lag than normal?

Minor Features:
* Ripple effect for water can now be turned on in the Graphics preference pane
- Ripple water uses the graphics card's pixel shading to create more realistic looking water
- The functionality will only be available for machines with cards supporting pixel shading
- Turning on this feature will cause viewer FPS to drop to some degree, so it is not enabled by default

Thanks for the info, how do I know if I have a pixel shading supported card? Never heard that mentioned before.

No, but I'll bet Jillian will have an attachment to do that with particles by the time this hits the main grid. If you don't know what I'm talking about, check her splashable water at Yadni's.

I still think this effect should be appliable to any surface, so you can make your prim water just as good as real water...

Also wondering. Furthermore, this feature requires pixelshaders, and the Ti4600 DOES support those, at least 1.1.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_computer_games_that_require_Pixel_Shaders

Does the ripplewater require at least 2.0 support?

the waves are no height Chip. The old method actually changed the shape of the surface, this just puts neat effects on a flat surface.

I find that's a lovely way to put it.

I also miss seeing the word "cyberspace" used more.
