Use it. Am I the only person under 30 who appreciates decent grammar in todays students and adults? Are these your students? Are they your employees who are paid to represent your company? If not, then it is not your place to be the grammar and diction police, especially when they're chatting in a frickin' game or on the internets. There are at least two major problems with the whole premise of this thread. First, regardless of whether or not this one person was being a dickhead, you've seemingly worked back to the erroneous conclusion that chatspeak implies that you are an ignorant, uneducated jackass. Hell, maybe it's true 90% of the time, but this is the essence of prejudice and intolerance. Second, who are you to define the standards? As others have pointed out you are no William Safire yourself. Oh, but "at least you're trying"? Jeez, how hard is it to preview your post and read through it just once to correct your obvious spelling, punctuation and grammar errors? I'm not insisting you do that, but I think it's the least we can ask of you if you're going to start criticizing others. |

Please don't put words in my mouth. I never said anything about what he was doing, but you started with..."we were having a conference call..." and calling him on something he was doing. Let me think, that would make me a bit defensive.
I appreciate people being able to spell, and make coherent sentences. Just because somebody can't, doesn't make them not decent, or un-educated.
There are several people with good grammar that I consider "ignorant, uneducated jackasses." Apparently its not right to clarify the situation to you? Yeah, once again good reason to ignore you. I'm also proud to be an educated jackass. Groucho: if they want me to take them seriously, they can drop 90% of the chatspeak. Otherwise I'll just laugh at them and consider them not worth my time. Oh, 2 things though. I can read numbers and letters backwards and mispell and see the right thing in my head until maybe 10 minutes later if I reread it. Its part of my dyslexia. I also never said I was perfect.
