I am going to miss these forums. I may not have posted much over the year, but I read it daily and it was how I started my day. It is going to be missed. Sure there are other forums, but none where the entire community came together to discuss what was going on in Second Life, or even what could do to improve it. There are many people here I hope to meet eventually in world, but know i probably won't, and this was the way I felt connected to the community.

Losing the forums is losing a huge chunk of information, the spoken culture of SL for the last few years. The issues that people debate defines the community, even if nothing is resolved. Even if you don't roll up your sleeves and join in the fray, you take some of the debate with you into your Second Life. I value SLers who are aware of their surroundings, who know what the issues are, who are thoughtful in the choices they make. It's the loss of a place where the community can openly define itself, where everyone was on an even footing, and could participate or not, as they chose.

Ah, well. Now residents will have to struggle a lot harder to stay informed.

These forums were a part of the learning experience for me it opened my views to other things I may not normally have seen, and dispite all the bad there was alot more good. It gave me also a sense of community.

I recently had the unexpected pleasure of actually meeting a person from SL in RL, I found out her name and was sooo excited because it was a person whose name I recognized from the forums. I'm sure she thought I was nuts because to me she was an icon, but more importantly it gave us a new jumping off point, it gave us two bonds.

I'm saddened by this loss of information sharing, this loss of community good and bad, and dispite what LL wants I for one will not be putting on their "rose colored glasses".

Longtime lurker, occational poster. :) I'll continue to be semi-vocal and keep an eye open for Photoshop questions at SLUniverse, SL-Forums, And SC.

Where are all the other lurkers headed?

I hold high hopes for SC providing a high level of quality entertainment and controversy, and that's said in a good way!

I'm watching SLUniverse in the hope of finding a good cross-section of people and conversation attracted by way of Snapzilla.

As for the other fora? It's just too soon to tell, none of them have attracted large numbers yet so we really don't know where the best lurking will be...

Way cool idea, Siobhan! Vivi Odets stopped posting at 666, so I guess it's up to me, her shy alt, to keep the kittens (and potatoes) coming!

I'm not really a lurker, I just don't post very often.

Should we just ignore the idea that General is being "closed" and just start threads with "[GENERAL]" in the topic in some of the not-being-closed parts of the board?
