Came to say goodbye
09-11-2006 01:49
I came to say goodbye to these forums. I am a lurker, I guess. I only just found out what that meant last night. I have enjoyed watching the debates rage back and forth. So before the baby goes flying out the window with the bathwater.......goodbye.

Now make sure you lurk at least on the other forums :)

I've learned a lot from these forums, watched the debates, and enjoyed the personalities involved, even if I failed to agree many times. I think silencing the voice of the commuinity and sweeping dissent of your customer base under the rug of many factionalized private forums is a bad move on LL's part. Downright shortsighted, in fact. /sigh/ It makes me wonder what specific short-bus-specialness to blame this on.

I'll miss these forums and some of you as I go in search of a new one in which to lurk.

Meanwhile-- So long, SL Forums, and thanks for all the fish.

Greetings.

I find I always enjoy reading the random ramblings, the interesting ideas, the discussions, the non-sequiturs, the information, and all such things of forums, Second Life's forums included.

I've seen others post the thought that third-party forums don't quite cut it.. I tend to agree. It just divides everyone up. The community is stronger, I think, on the official forums.. as opposed to "Visit and register on one of a dozen SL forum sites."

a lurker till the last few days... the forums were what made me feel like i was part of something in the beginning, not just a lone avatar playing with prims in yet another 3D modeller

sadly, i've been visiting a lot of the other outside forums and i have to say it just feels fractured. we'll never get the broad cross-section of SL's diversity anywhere else that we have here.

i love potato in all its myriad forms! mmmmmmm po ta to...

I've been a lurker too, until recently. I'll miss the community feel there is here, and the updates and news that you wouldn't get in-world. I've learnt a lot from these forums!

I'll miss the forums. They made it easier for me to feel a part of the community, even though I was just lurking.

Bye bye forums.

I've so enjoyed this place. I love all the helping, fighting, and especially the silliness. It has been a great source of amusement. I hate that everybody is now going off to different forums, just won't be nearly as much fun. I can't think of another forum, game or otherwise, that I find myself laughing so much. There's just so many witty and intelligent people in second life. It's been a blast.

You didn't know I was here but I have been.

I have lurked here almost every day since my first day in SL.

The forums have been a very large part of my SL experience.

I am somewhat appalled at LL's insistance on closing them in spite of the collective outcry against such a move.

It is with sadness that I bid these forums a farewell.

Goodbye forums

Hello, for almost 2 years I have pretty much lurked, coming out of my cave to post when the topic was something I felt strongly about. I will miss the banter

Yeah, I'm a lurker. I've posted a little bit...but mostly I read. Addictively. I will miss the forums very much, but I hope that I use all the time I'll get back more productively.

I've had a morbid fascination with the drama and the fighting. That said, I really and truly wish people will remember to be good to each other.

Take care and see you in SL.

Lucky :)

Loss and Learning
09-11-2006 07:49
I've lurked for almost two years now its become a ritual get up make coffee, read the forums. I've laughed, I've cried, why I've even banged my head on the desk. I look at games I play as learning experiences and I choose my games as such. These forums were a part of the learning experience for me it opened my views to other things I may not normally have seen, and dispite all the bad there was alot more good. It gave me also a sense of community.

I recently had the unexpected pleasure of actually meeting a person from SL in RL, I found out her name and was sooo excited because it was a person whose name I recognized from the forums. I'm sure she thought I was nuts because to me she was an icon, but more importantly it gave us a new jumping off point, it gave us two bonds.

I'm saddened by this loss of information sharing, this loss of community good and bad, and dispite what LL wants I for one will not be putting on their "rose colored glasses".
