Wow, that was a great thread; I can't believe I didn't post in it back then. Seeing a lot of those old SL names that used to be so familiar is like a blast from the past. This is an excellent choice for The Best Thread Ever, Khamon, I think it has my support, as well. After so many months of the Lindens not deigning to post in forums, I think the biggest shock in reading this old thread was seeing people like Cory and Philip posting multiple times. (Insert obligatory sentence here about how we're now forced to read their blogs instead of getting to interact with them... oh, f*ck it, I'm just weary of it all. *sigh*)

(Heh, now I have the theme song from that old TV show "All In The Family" running through my head: "Those were the days... " ;) ... :( )

P.S. I was one of the first 25 (I think) people who received a Developer Incentive check back in January 2004. I never cashed it and kept it for posterity - it was about $33 (Philip verified that he signed it himself). I wonder if any of the other recipients kept his/hers purely for sentimental reasons... and I wonder now if I should have just cashed the damned thing.

dammit. I read this and I saw "1.12" instead of "1.2"... and i'm all like.. what. whats going on. whats happening. what's changing...

And then I'm all like, "oh yeah. 2003."

Thanks for the nostalgia... And the reminder that now when we say "I remember back in 1.1" you'll have people saying "So do I, that was right after we got flexprims right?"

I think they should have just gone to letters. We'd be on 1.C right now.

In addition to buying land from other users or parcels that are for sale, as new simulators go online you will have the opportunity to bid on new locations.

Yes, 1.2 also has substantial UI improvements. Havok 2 is not in this release because we have instead focused on viewer frame rate improvements, especially for situations with large numbers of avatars in view. Parties will work much better now!

Know what I find humourous about that thread? There are people there who are quite displeased, but they express themselves like adults. And see what happens? Response from a Linden. These days, when something does not go someone's way, they come into the forums absolutely screaming about it, creating multiple threads to bash the Lindens and other residents. If behaviour had continued like it was in 2003, I bet the forums would have stayed. The people who scream uncontrollably about the forums being closed are the type of people responsible for it.

You're assuming that LL would not have removed all registration requirements and allowed unlimited, free, alts. In that respect, they killed their own forums -- with no small amount of help from ol' Proky.

The people who scream uncontrollably about how happy they are the forums are gone are the type who'd be better served by not posting in the first place. :D

People scream now because gradually as more problems happened that shouldn't have the Lindens stopped responding more and more until they don't even talk to us at all. Hence the anger and frustration.

Reminded me of that stupid line Steve Buscemi says in Spy Kids II: Island of Lost Dreams, "Dr. Romero: Do you think God lives in Heaven because He too lives in fear of what He created?

Nobody will be able to get ahead in Second Life just by spending US$ - it still takes a lot of talent and creativity to translate all of the land and primitives that you own into something that will generate dwell, or L$, or whatever metric is the way to reward our best users.]

Wow ... What a very interesting post to read! Unfortunately it looks like Doug didn't forsee the notorious development of the evil camping chair and the wake of destruction left in its path.

Or maybe he did ...

If it turns out that the developer reward program isn't rewarding those people, then it's not serving its purpose - and it needs to be changed.]

Crossposted from Lord's thread: There's also a new general discussion group called Second Forum (I think) that is open to the public.
