It wouldn't change my play at all, except that I would miss the shopping of the residents who use their Lindens to support content creators.

Where's the "It's all the same to me" option?
Either way. I will continue my SL as usual.. _____________________

Sigh.
Mourn all those who will leave SL because the periodic purchase they look forward to each month now won't happen. Regret that there was no counter-acting incentive to attract more people to SL. Continue buying L$ on the LindeX. Watch the "Chicken Littles" get re-dubbed the "Ostritches" as the L$ does *NOT* rebound. Continue enjoying SL as I always have, less L$50/wk. _____________________

Should premium accounts lose stipend... well.
I got premium because it would largely pay for itself, and to start my store; now that I'm in Caledon, I don't have to be premium to own land, and if stipends ended... Well, basic accounts would be just as good for my purposes. _____________________

I don't think Premium accounts should lose stipend; if they do, they should instead get a bigger land amount. I don't need it personally, but when I first started, I desperately needed L$ to afford upload fees and advertising to launch my store.
Basics... meh. If we took away stipends, how about a larger amount to start off with? I think free accounts should be treated more like a stepping stone to Premium... Other online games you have to pay a monthy fee for. _____________________

You forgot an option for "I won't miss it at all"
05-22-2006 17:32
I don't even notice when I get my stipend anymore.
It's so easy to build and create new items to sell I can't understand why everyone doesn't do it. There are a number of top notch in-game tutorials that teach you everything you need to know. There are tons of freebie scripts out there, so you don't need to be a master scripter, if you can hack a few ready made scripts to do what you want you are set. There is a really nice freebie particle script at the Particle Laboratory that make putting particles in an object dead easy. Need ideas? Just fly around and look at stuff others have made, or take apart some freebies and see how they are made. I can't tell you how many times someone else's build has inspired a great new idea for me. In fact I was just working on an item that I was inspired to make while visiting a really cool Vampire castle. And I must be doing something right, I found my first "product rip off" today. Hehehe, the guy had made an exact copy of one of my chairs, right down to what it was named! LOL, well they do say that imitation is the highest form of flattery! ![]() Basicaly the only real need of the stipend is so newbies can have money while they are learning to create their own stuff to sell. |

if stipends are dropped how will Linden Lab reliably and sustainably scale the currency pool to stem rampant deflation That's why they can start selling it now. ![]() _____________________

Opinion:
Be glad that everyone doesn't do it. When all the world is full of craftsmen, no one need buy anything. The $500 may not mean much to you (I'm sooooo tired of hearing that), but it means a lot to me! coco _____________________

I dont intend on doing a single thing different...no matter which stipend (basic or premium) they remove.

Well if 'ALL' stipend is eliminated, which I expect they will be soon. There's no point in being in SL.
I did not come here to spend my hard earned money on play dollars. I did not come here to turn this existance into a Second Job (I already have one). But in any case. Yes, there will be a rampant deflation when it happens, it'll make it even more worthless than it already is. So why not just keep the stipend? But of course, the economists who worry and flander about what to do will go on and argue that its best for the economy. Joy. Oh yes, there definately needs to be a Pie option here. |

Something that might help the economy is to encourage freebies. People come here wanting them so bad anyway, if they dont have to pay outragious prices for crap they wouldnt keep buying more money and inflating the world. I personally never buy anything thats over 2k unless its land. And im fed up with owning land unless it holds a community... The higher you price your stuff the more your contributing to this disaster IMO... Back in october i sold 100,000 linden in lindex. it got me a whopping $367. Well today i checked that and its now only worth $312. O.o Whats up with that? makes you wana sell fast huh?

I'm not a newbie by any means, but I don't read the forums all that much....
What is the big deal about pie?? If I'd known pie was so important I'd definitely have put it in there.Anyone wish LL would find a way to poll all the members before they make changes?? According to this it's almost equal between the people who will happily pay for $L's and the people who will downgrade their accounts. Too bad it's not that accurate. This just seems like the kind of research LL should be doing before they make economic changes. |

No, I'm gonna ride it out because it's a long term investment. The problem here is that the investments are too short term and people panic and sell when the $L slides even a little |

The Poll needs another option.
I will wait till the panic ends and things stabilise then (exactly as I do now) make the best decisions for me as I can. |

Will it though? the "panic" has been going on for at least a good 6 months or more. Every change that is announced gets a big hurrah from the content creators and land sales people and a big boo from the consumers. Then after about a week of hurrah, all the "$L is dropping so something" threads begin to appear again. Rinse repeat next month, and the next, and the next, etc. |

You forgot an option.....
"Not do anything different since stipends aren't that big of a deal" Honestly, the small boost from the stipends doesnt do much for me. I will say that I do see a very small increase in sales when stipends come out, but it's not that noticable. _____________________

In fact I was just working on an item that I was inspired to make while visiting a really cool Vampire castle. The problem is there's a deeper level that tutorials don't teach. Just because you get inspired by looking at other people's things doesn't mean that everybody does. And courses in making things out of prims tell you how to make an arc or a cylinder or a hemisphere but they don't tell you where to put the arc or cylinder or hemisphere to make the overall object look good. On a simpler level, it's only because of the stipend that it's theoretically possible for everyone to earn Lindens by making things and selling them. If the money supply was static then sooner or later the number of content creators that could be supported by a reasonable income would run out, which would then force the less-known creators to start selling stuff either free or "cheap as free", undermining the market as a whole. |

Ok.. can you be anymore rude? Please point out where in my comment I said they should end? Do me a favor and don't put your distastefull words into my mouth. I said that "I" don't see much of a difference and that they are not that big of a deal to "me". You don't have to be a content creator to make money in game... get a job, enter contests, play games... do SOMETHING!!!! I'm sure for some people there would be a great loss if the stipends went away.. but that's not the question given in this post.. it was "What will you do if stipends end?" _____________________

Anyone wish LL would find a way to poll all the members before they make changes?? Yes. And one assumes they could actually code such a thing. For example, make it so that every account when it logs in (this includes alts) would be able to vote on a simple question. A message of the day, but with something to vote on. And once an account has voted on that, it can't vote again on it. coco _____________________
