Nope. I like my pink bits and the ability to reason when breasts are near.

I'd change to suit my mood-circumstances. ..But really, I'd rather be able to change not just gender, but every physical aspect. Now THAT would be some awesome stuff. ..As long as I could change back.

..I like peeing standing up. And being able to have a whole month peacefully without Nature's interruptions is nice.

But having boobies for a bit would also be fun. At least until I got used to them and they became a pain in the neck(or back).. :D

Suppose you could adjust your gender and appearance in RL as easy as you can with your SL avatar. Would you?

Sure.

But I'm not confining myself. Just like SL, I'd not mind the ability to look like whatever the hell I wanted at any given moment.

I voted for RL female: I'd change to suit mood/circumstances because it would be fun under certain circumstances. Before my surgery in March, I definitely would have shared the reason for the 5 - 7 day switch. Now, I think I would use it for safety reasons, although some chicks are scary. Gah, nm my bf is distracting me and I'm losing concentration in what i'm trying to say...damn men!

I'm a guy, and I wouldnt even feel secure walking home alone at night.

I'd be a woman for car insurance, and when applying for jobs at companies which are being pressured toward positive discrimination, although the time for that seems to be passing now. The car insurance is a dead cert though.

I can empathize with being elbow height from my days at school - I got crushed between walls and fighting meatheads, and bags swung in my face and all that. And one time, a ball of ice loosely termed a snowball hit me in the lip, whereas if I were taller it wouldve hit me in the chest. And I was significantly weaker than everyone my age.Funny though, I wouldn't mind being smaller now. I dont feel that how I appear in R/L matches how I feel. Yay for SL.

In public restrooms--youbetcha!

There is one public restroom on the US/Mexico border (US side)between San Diego and Tiajuana--the crabs have crabs. Ewwwwwww. I would have flown if I could have.

Hadn't considered snow. . . I need to change my SL name to Euter'pee.' :D

What were you thinking, ther are far far cleaner places to use the restroom. Even in TJ.

No way, being a rl woman is too much fun!! As for that 5-7 days, well get old enough and that is no longer an issue :D

But what I wouldn't give to be able to be forever 16 and gorgeous like our avies. And to change my hair, height, skin, eyes and the rest on a whim. Oh and to have that choice of wardrobe............sigh.

If I could snap my fingers I'd be a girl.

But would I get my period and pregoo?

Hmmm better think about this.

I do wonder how the world would change if this were possible.

Check out some of John Varley's fiction, especially the short story "Options", and the novel Steel Beach.

Most people stick with their original gender. A minority change gender *once* and start a new life. A smaller minority change gender periodically, and they have a sub-culture of their own. And the most common sexual preference among the "changers" is hetero: attracted to the opposite sex, whatever that is at the time.

He may not actually have it right, but it rings true to me.

If this were possible though, I think all of a sudden there would only be about 20% males in the world and think of all the peace and quiet we would get!

War would end, the economy would improve, murder rates would plummet, gun violence would be a thing of the past....

Dreamy :)

I thought the point you made is EXACTLY (but not comprehensively) why I am happy to be a girl :) and have no desire at all to change.

On the poll question: I would like to be able to change Gender RL according to circumstances. The reason being, guys in general are more effective, with less BS (excuse the French), in some areas, but when it comes to social activities (politics, middle management, anything where things have to run smoothly in a coordinated way) girls tend to be much better. In practise, I would probably not do it, though... for most things, it is easier to adopt properties of the opposite sex, than to develop a full blown distinct personality for each gender, I think. Some people haven't even managed that with ONE gender ;)

I also think, however, if this was possible, that gender would not matter any more. The burning question would then be hair or eye colour, or whatever... Or sensitive versus insensitive skin? Sliders - we needs sliders in Rl too, including age!

Wow, when this poll first hit minimum sample size, it was balanced between the sexes. Now (at 99 responses) it's heavily skewed in the direction of males becoming females. Does this reflect the unique times we live in, do you think? This is the first age I can remember in a very long time that being a woman didn't carry heavy social and physical penalties. Or maybe it's just a pent-up desire on the part of males to emote and to be pretty. :D

Man... after another day or so of posts...

You lot don't read NEARLY enough science fiction.

If you could change gender, species, whatever at the push of a button...

Would you do it in the middle of a conversation? Think Bugs Bunny switching apparent gender on Elmer Fudd in the middle of a scene, thanks to toon physics...

How about changing gender... while having sex?

I like being a man.

It's not all gold and glory all the time.. not like it's made out to be... but it suits me quite fine.

I just wish everyone would stop complaining about how easy everyone else has it.

You all suck equally. Generally speaking, life sucks almost as much.

Just think of this --

"He brings mischief upon himself, who causes mischief to another and evil planned often harms the plotter most."

You get good for good and bad for bad while somewhere in between in the every-day world there is cause and effect.

*laughs*

Try looking at it from the perspective of yourself in an age when it's possible to do as easily as changing your hair color.

Speaking of hair color my grandmother used to think it was absolutely HORRIBLE to change what God gave you. Coloring your hair was as unthinkable to her as changing your sex from day to day seems to be for most of you.

If you look carefully at your reasons for saying "hell no" you would have to admit they are predominately;

1. Biochemically driven or
2. Socially programmed.

If you claim otherwise I propose you are being mostly dishonest with yourself.

Personally, if I had a choice, I would never be a slave to either of those. I'm kind of surprised how many people don't mind being a slave to external forces...or even embrace it.

The idea of walking into my closet in the morning and changing bodies as readily as I do my skirt is quite intriguing.

Ummm...no...the poll can not support the conclusion you want to draw.

What the poll does NOT tell you is how many respondies are female vs. male. The choice titled "No Way" would have to have been split into; "RL Male -No Way" and "RL Female - No Way" to draw ANY conclusions about females or males prefering to switch.

Right no the poll is flawed in a way that makes it useless to determine differences between male and female in this regard.

And if you have no reason to complain, you are not paying attention...

No one here is really complaining, this is more wishful thinking.

I also grew up (to another post) with a lot of sisters, and it was hell, but fun!

I just think that male posturing often gets in the way of any decision remotely resembling reason. And its fun to dream what it would be like, if that element was missing. Female posturing on the other hand seems to be separated from critical decision making on their part, pehaps because we are by nature offspring oriented - future, and not task oriented - present, like a lot of males are.

What did the Greeks have to say about how the amazons ran their show?

On the other hand, it kind of locks us in to the most critical activity of mankind - getting the next generation started properly.

Have to ditto Cory and Aimee on the 5-7 days thing, didn't think of that.

one reason i'd always choose to be a man

a friend of mine, Mr. Garrison, gave me some profound advice once: "mever trust something that bleeds for 5 days and doesn't die"

#2 I can pee standing up and not get my ankles or any other part of my body wet

#3 shitting out a baby

that has got to hurt, and the male part of creating a baby is much better

only reason I would be a girl is to be a lesbian!

mark me as thankful it swings and quite happy with my RL gender
