Am I the only person who won't miss the forums?

I'm rather happy this hotbed of nonstop whining , bitching, and sycophantic bullshit is going the way of the dodo.

The only thing I'll really regret is the lack of readily available ammunition it gave for my radio show.

A few years back they seemed to consist of enthusiastic people sharing their in-world discoveries and adventures. Today much of it sounds like the the ravings of people whose alienated their RL friends with endless rants about their causes and issues.

Though it was kinda funny to see the trolls get swatted around.

I'm not sorry. I'm the first to admit that I have an unhealthy addiction to the drama on these forums. I purposely seek out the most inflammatory posts and read them with glee. This place is like the Jerry Springer show. and it's bad for me. But I can't keep away.

I rarely post, but I've been reading this damn forum since I started playing SL in May. I've absorbed so much vitriol over meaningless subjects it's not even funny. But it's kind of funny.

I have seen some really funny, good stuff here and read posts from some folks who are super cool and smart, but they're not in the majority. Whatever discourse may start in this forum is guaranteed to be derailed by asshats before too long.

So no. I'm not sorry to see them go. I do think it's too bad that they got the way they did, but it's not surprising given human nature on the internet.

Well, I take a bit of that back. I think that it is most unfortunate that the baby (i.e. Design, Building, Scripting, etc) is going out with the sewage-filled bathwater (teh Sandbox). I'm hoping that after the dust settles these discussions find a home here.

Aside from that, turn on the faucet and hose these forums down.

I wont miss the discussion forums, but I will miss the announcement, support and new products forums.

I'm with Katy. The forums themselves offer little positive to the community, but there are a few areas here I feel are vital to the community.

I'll miss them. I'll miss the ridiculous posts. I'll miss the anrgy posts. I'll miss the funny posts. I'll miss the insightful posts. And I'll miss the informational posts.

It was fun to browse, post occasionally and see what was up. I've learned about many in-world happenings on the forums that I never would have seen if not for them. I've met and talked to folks about a wide variety of topics I never would have without them. And I've even resolved issues, or made others aware of them, that I never would have been able to do without the forums.

I preferred the earlier days, when they weren't moderated really, and were more of a wild west type of thing.

But all things change.

Bye forums. You were once fun and carried some value for the community. Now you're a shithole of self-righteous "intellectuals" trying to impress each other. Of course, that's not a relection on all the forums users.Unfortunately, like many things in life, those who didn't constantly show thier asses will have to pay the fare for those who did.

When they learned that the forums were going away yesterday, they showed us just how intellectual they were. When people know they have nothing to lose, it's then that their true characters are revealed. It really shows that the folks who like to hide simple bad behavior behind the skirts of "politics" and "free speech" are just a bunch of overindulged babies with a warped sense of entitlement and a weak hold on reality.

It's not about SL being sold, it's not about stifling discontent. It's about taking away the rattle that people use to constantly hit LL and each other over the head with. I am not without guilt to that end myself.

I think one thing a lot of people are missing is that LL has been MUCH more tolerant of lunacy on their boards than any online community that I have experienced before, and that number is many - in the dozens. You simply would not have gotten away with the types of behaviors you could here. Be thankful you were indulged as long as you were, I am.

Now we can put the non-stop ranting, raving and berating of each other where it really belongs - on 3rd party sites.

Now flame me, swear at me, tell me how stupid I am - it wouldn't be the forums if you didn't.

You may be experiencing what they call the "denial phase".

but what will we do when the grid is down.. or we are stuck at work away from SL.

The forums have been a great way for me to find things and meet people when I can't be in SL. I take home pages of stuff I want to check out when I am in world. I right down names of people I want to try and meet.

I truly would not of jumped into SL life so quickly without them.
