You know, I really resent people who complain about downtime because they can't continue to trade and make money here on SL for a few hours. I for one am not here to do them a favour by buying their SL stuff, the revenues from which they can turn into RL$$. I am here to enjoy myself, and for this to happen, the system needs to be updated periodically. The basic, premium and tier fees follow an RL business model that permits the Linden organisation to offer their service, employ people to develop and maintain it, and provide a sensible profit element to them as creators and owners. If their business terms included fees to all of us for downtime <24 hrs, their basic, premium, and tier rates would simply go up to compensate them for it, and why not?
Get real, folks, enjoy the simulation, and stop the kvetching about SL owing you a living.

I think that it's best left up to our significant others to pay us for up time. Forget the currency - use the barter system!

Honestly the only downtime that we should be paid for was last nights fiasco with the grieferballs that took down the grid and that we could easily get from liquidating that @$$hole's account (lindens, land, maybe items) and he should be charged the amount of money equal to the current LindeX value at the time of the crash and have LL BUY the existing lindens to cover the rest of the world's re-embursement. This way 1) justice prevailed, 2) no new money is put into the system while re-embursing players thus maintaining a stablized economy.

This way 1) justice prevailed, 2) no new money is put into the system while re-embursing players thus maintaining a stablized economy. Acutally, after my earlier frivolity in this thread, I feel that LL should reimburse people who were in-world last night (not me, I was tucked up in bed) because the whole incident happened because they failed to take action over an issue that was, apparently, highlighted in 2003. I knew it had been highlighted before but not that early on. Oh and those who had objects returned to them off their own parcel because of the bug that doesn't return last-in-first-out should get even more compensation, as that's one that's been talked about for months as well. Yup, the exploits are that old folks. So, simply because they didn't bother to sort them then, people who were in-world, or who tried to use the service during, should be reimbursed something at least. It would be nice if they took their own security and exploit flaws seriously.

I don't see the big deal in it being down for a day. I mean you can't keep the servers running 24/7. They gotta go down for maintainence and upgrades some time.

People need something while about when they can't get their crack,er, SL fix. Nobody in SL is going to be bankrupted by a day's downtime. So simmer down now.

10-24-2005 16:43
Hey all,
Of course we are all experiencing the same thing. At least I'm not alone. But does anyone know how long downtime will be before they bring SL back up.
I look at it this way things happen for a reason. But boy are my hands itching to get into SL. If someone knows please tell me. =o)
Thanks much,
Que =o)

Its up now - but - you will experience weirdness until it settle back down
So - Second Life is 'up' in the same way a Yugo is a 'car'
