So that leads me to ask; where did you come from? Is this your first online game? What games did you play before SL, and are you still playing them now? What were your avatar names?
I look forward to getting to know you guys a little better.

First off, I would like to introduce myself to the community. I recently downloaded SL and got a basic account (for now). I came from TSO (The Sims Online); my main avatars there were Maxoid and Megalomaniac. I used to be a very active member of the forums there.

Heya Atomic... nice intro and a warm welcome to SL for you. SL is really my first online world. I dabbled with things like the There trial, but nothing much, really. I usually use my real name, as close as possible, when I'm on Internet-related things, so you can prolly guess that with a free choice of firstname on here and selecting a lastname from a list, what's what.

I am not sure what relevance games have to SL.
![]() For "scripting", Borland Delphi. For texturing I've used Corel PhotoPaint. For 3D modeling, I've used clay, tinkertoys, legos, and erector sets. Been a while though. I bought a dremel moto-tool but never did anything with it. I did Cybertown. If anyone remembers someone running in circles around the slanted walls of the flea market room that might have been me. _____________________

Aside from the old WorldsAway - now called vzones, I never got into any online worlds. In fact, I never had any intention to when I stumbled into SL.
I was actually looking for a way to design 3D scenes virtually, versus using the usual 3D tools such as Maya, Studio, Bryce, and Lightwave. Basically, I wanted to build within the world, moreso than design/render/enter the environment. I'd spent a year or so with Adobe Atmosphere, and had lots of ongoing experience with the FPS map design tools for DOOM, Quake, HL & RTCW. But, I wanted more. So, I did a Google search and found FrameForge 3D Studio. It seemed perfect, since my goal was to design for TV. However, it was lacking, so I continued my search and found Second Life. I entered the world not realizing it was an active virtual community - I expected the sparseness of Adobe Atmosphere. So naturally, the first person I ran into, I thought it was some sort of bot. But, the second person I met was Andie Apollo (after landing at her impressive Club Galaxy), and she was the greatest. She's the reason I stayed in SL, because she showed me so many possibilities of building and that just about anything would be possible within SL. Now, when new residents stumble into my neighborhood of SL, I try to talk to them, answer their questions and show them some of the possibilities - that is, if they don't run away from me first (some folks immediately poof as soon as I say, "hello." ![]() |

I was a text based chatroom junky before coming to SL, the format looked a lot like the forums here, with an autorefresh changing it from a forum to a chatroom.
Oh yeah, also a Tangleword (Boggle clone) addict. Now that is a good game. Never really did any MUDs or MUSHes. I've been a sci fi fan since I learned to read, if you will allow comic books to be considered sci fi for children. One of the storylines in some sci fi is virtual reality, so that fits right in. James Hogan has done some nice VR stories. There's a scene in one of his books that involves an augmented reality, with a big space with real people on the ground, and virtual people like us flying about. It reminds me a lot of what SL feels like. _____________________

Copper, you just gave me a shudder. Deep down, in the corner where darkest fears lurk, my two worst nightmares make their home:
- Someone will discover that my thesis hasn't run since they upgraded from a 16 bit OS - I am actually stuck in 'Bedlam' on my TRS-80. Ulp. _____________________

Hey man welcome to Second Life. I started in TSO at the end of 2003. I think I live in Interhogan and was ReallyRick. I then moved on to THERE at the beginning of 2004 and was ReallyRick there too. (see a pattern?)
I have been a party of the SL community since June of 2005 and cannot believe I did not arrive here sooner. Enjoy the world and hope to see you around! |

I used some chat rooms briefly but SL was my first game. Before SL, however, I used 3D rendering applications like Bryce for work, so I actually felt right at home in this environment.

I started out playing TSO just a couple of months after it came out then went to There. I have to say this is much better! A friend of mind said she got an email from There asking her to join for a 3 day trial. I looked at it and had forgotten how cartoon like the avatars there are compared to SL!
Oh... and I was Shoshana from Calvins Creek in TSO then Shana in There. Sensing a theme with my name? ![]() |

Aside from MUDs and MUSHs a LOOOONG time ago, I also have played in some PW's based on Bioware's Neverwinter Nights.
In terms of traditional MMORGs, I played Everquest for about 6 moths after its initial release, and then I played City of Heroes (From release until I discovered SL about 3 weeks ago.). Welcome to SL... if you're like the rest of us, you may find this environment an extremely addictive back-monkey. The beauty of people's works, the absolute freedom to do or be as you please...the ability to find like-minded people, no matter WHAT your inclinations... Welcome to the monkey... remember to feed the monkey often... Love the monkey... Just don't ket the monkey run your life. |

Welcome, Atomic!
![]() I didn't really "come" from any particular place, I've been an MMO(whatever) junkie for many years, migrating from one environment to another. I do however still play AO and WoW. Hope you enjoy your time here! _____________________
