Yeah - there is a long answer and a short answer
Short answer - today was update day, the grid reopened, and lo, Lindens fucked up again and reclosed it - it happens, you will get used to it. |

The grid has possibly been attacked by things called"Griefer cubes" which are a big nuisance since they are self-duplicating objects that appear to have attacked various residents across the grid---again

I guess "glitch" is the new politically correct term for Grid Attack Next Month it will be called "unplanned feature" In 6 months it will be "true variety in your online expereince" In a year it will be "Future Selling Point" |

tips for noobs
08-23-2006 12:45
You're not a noob, a noob is another word for a greifer. The correct term for what you are is a newb, which means you're just starting out. I learned this when I was just starting out.

Yeah, for the most part they are, but if someone ticks you off, you can mute them. I've muted alot of people, but you might want to un mute them after a while, which I never do. I tend to leave people on mute for an extended period of time. (forever)

Welcome to SL, Dean!
Ah, and as you now know, you picked an update morning to join. Don't let that deter you from plunging in and having a great time. I would suggest flying around, stopping here or there, and saying hi to folks: you'll find most people are pretty nice. For a slightly more organized way of starting to see the sights, get acquainted with the SEARCH button: this will be bring up a screen with various options: Popular places (popular, due to traffic: you're sure to find folks in these spots); Events (you'll find games, classes, gatherings of all sorts), Places (here, you can type in a key word of something that interests you -- and see what pops up). When you find something that sounds interesting, hit that teleport button and head off on an adventure. Keep your eyes open, ready to see some pretty amazing things, and keep your mind and heart open, ready to meet some pretty amazing people! Enjoy! _____________________

lol ive heard the word griefers being thrown around is this just another word for people who try and ruin the game for other or what? Essemtially yes There is a form of state of war - griefers vs us. Griefers are abusive little bastards who think they own the grid and that everyone else must allow them to do what they like or leave the grid. They are also decietful lying bastards, who will tell you they did not know what they were doing was considered bad, or claim to be reformed - griefers never reform, any that say they have are liars, and never trust a griefer, they are scum. |

Yeah, they're also known by more names. (Some of which I can not repeat here because this is a PG forum) It's PG? Are you kidding? Half the stuff I see here, topic and language could get you banned from some Mature areas, never mind banned from every PG area going. |
