I guess just not being so easily offended isn't an option.

No, not for the breast-beating PC type it isn't...

Thank Buddha someone knows what they are talking about. I am a fairly left-leaning guy, but as someone suggested above, all "left-wingers" aren't out to create Orwellian restrictions on language, in real life, or in SL.

IMO, people should chill out and if someone says something that would be considered offensive in RL, they should make SL better than RL, by shrugging their shoulders and walking away. Allowing ignorance to control the way you feel only gives others power over you.

It certainly is an option people can learn. It is the route I take. It's called understanding the other person.

I don't pass judgement on you or your statements until I have ascertained your intent. To get intents accurate, you can't rely on one word or one sentence. It may take several minutes of conversation before the real intent behind the words is known.

My default assumption is "I do not know what country this person is from." Then it becomes easy to not be offended. I then can just simply listen to you and learn where you are coming from.

Understanding others is not hard to do. It's just a choice you need to make. Unfortunately it's a choice a lot of people refuse to make.
