sucks for Mac users.. but doesnt it always?
Actually, for most Mac users I think this has been a pretty good update if you're running Tiger (10.4). My home machine is up to date and running well with a draw distance of 192m and the eye candy on, getting anywhere from 40fps on my island to 10 fps in busy sims. Probably the smoothest major SL update I can remember.

However, my work machine is running Panther (10.3) and I won't be able to do any lunchtime log-ins until the fix is released.

I'm a happy camper! Not in the "chair" sense. ;)

I've seen FPS increase in a lot of places where I lagged before. At times it's gone off the scale!

It's nice to walk around now.

*doing the happy dance*

Those flexiprims totally FREAK ME OUT!
Am I the only one? After seeing prims staying still for 3 years it's a totally weird feeling. It's like an RL inanimate object started moving by itself! Or... if your broomstick suddenly flopped and jiggled on your hands.
And they're laggy as hell even on minimum detail :S

Awesome improvement. I really apreciate what they did this time. I completely agree about the get out and explore comment. I would never explore a popular place in sl during the evening before, the lag would kill me. But last night, it just worked. I went shopping and clubbing and could actually move. The first few minutes where scary when I first logged after updating; I had not uninstalled or cleared my cache first, so I think that the viewer did some serious cleaning. But after that, nice and smooth. Textures actually stay loaded now. The don't go all fuzzy if you are 10 meters away and turn around and turn back. That used to always bother me, especially with trees and art. Now it just stays loaded and in focus. Tp into new sim, and the textures just pop in pretty fast. I even went to elventide, which is always horrible to my poor pc, and it just worked well. Anyway, thanks for the hard work. It went smooth.

I hadn't used local lighting since BETA. I totally forgot how the place looked with it turned on and geeze, I was missing out.

Same here, I just couldn't handle the 50-75% frame rate hit under the old system. With this client, I am seeing IMPROVED framerates and its beautiful at night! Friend of mine made a simple fire, took the fire prims and made them flex...so the fire not only ripples with the animated texture, it blows in the wind like a real fire. And seeing the lighting off my clothing and equipment, awesome!

I felt like I should find the nearest Linden, shake them repeatedly and shout 'What did you do with the old programmers?' Either they got new programmers or they sure got their act togeather for this one. :)

I was pleased to see everything working after I upgraded (including installing the 6.5 ATI drivers released the same day...and after I'd just upgraded to 6.4 two days prior). For some reason the overall brightness level looks higher; not sure whether it's the new lighting code or what.

I seem to be getting about 15 fps tops, 10 or so in a crowded area like Ahern...does this sound reasonable? I've got an ATI Radeon X1600 Pro AGP with 512Mb, could I have goofed the config somehow?

Also, for some reason, I was getting several messages I hadn't seen before, to the effect of "This sim will restart in N seconds, you will be logged out unless you go elsewhere." Once, I did get logged out when I got only 10 seconds to react and wasn't fast enough on the teleport controls. Could this be a side effect of the upgrade, perhaps, or does this always happen?

OMG LINDENS LINDENS LINDENS...

I NOW HAVE RIPPLE WATER!!!

You have no idea how happy that makes me. I thought my system couldn't handle it, and that was why it wouldn't show up... but now I have the ocean in all it's ripply glory. The reflections from the sun are just amazing...

(I realize I'm pleased about something they SHOULD have fixed a long time ago, namely that a lot of people just had the water disappear on the ripple setting, but I'm just SO HAPPY I can finally see it!!)

Oh yeah and that hardware lighting is cool too. And those floppy prims.

This has definitely been the best upgrade since version 1.4 - thank you Linden Lab. The lighting effects alone make the update worth it, but things like Copy to Inventory and the new one click actions make SL less tedious and easier to use. I have to admit, I was expecting this update to be a disaster, and instead, it has been nearly perfect for me - dramatically improved frame rates are very much appreciated.

Same goes for me on the good update experience. Special thanks to the preview team for their help getting us the things we needed (especially time) to test things on the preview grid. I hope this becomes a trend!

The enduser portion of me says "I love Second Life 1.10!" and I can't wait to see what's next. :)

And no, this never comes at the exclusion of bugs and problems--which I am ever-reporting, in hopes of things getting even better.

This has been the smoothest major update for me yet.

Remember when things used to appear all gray after a major update and it took a long time to recache all that data?

No thanks, I like the 20-40% jump in frame rate I'm seeing in my home sim!
