Well for single incidents I think it is best to confront the person one-on-one. If the person is a baby that wants to play fake combat with someone then I'll treat them like 3 year old with the cardboard sword they are and have them sent to their room for a day or two. I mean if I'm sitting there trying to build something when a random person decides it is funny to blow me up for 1 minute straight and then they don't stop when I tell them I'm not in the mood to play childish games, why is it wrong for me to abuse report them. I would break their computer with a baseball bat personally, but I don't have the right information to find them. I also don't care about the grab a cardboard sword and hit back. It is fake combat, and to me it is pointless. They want to be a little kid, I'll call those with power to give them a time out in the corner. They act like a kid, they get treated like a kid. |

What Dark said. I had this immature "friend" who, when he was good, he was very very good and talented, and when he was bad (which eventually became most of the time), he was horrid. I knew him in TSO and also here.
He tried my patience something awful. I'd put up with getting caged or something, and just continue building. I'd put up with getting blown away, and just return. But once was never funny enough for him. (I could deal with once, if he thought that was funny.) It had to be over and over and over. Tell me now that my sense of humor was lacking for not seeing how being blown away over and over while building was funny. Sometimes I just gave up what I was doing and teleported elsewhere, or even got off the game and went to do something else. I really, really dislike reporting people, and I figured if he didn't get a rise out of me, he would stop. But he didn't! Finally I banned him from my land. Nothing helped in other lands, though - for example, one night he was getting his jollies by going to Bingo where I was and shooting a spam notecard gun at me. Even though OTHER nights, he played Bingo just like anyone else, and for a couple of weeks, RAN one of the best Bingo games in SL before he got bored with it. In TSO it was the same thing - he was a terrible griefer lots of the time, and SOMETIMES he was the perfect, most gentlemanly and skilled game host you could hope to meet. That is what was odd. I finally decided he really did have some very terrible mental condition, and there was no use even being friends with him during his "good" spells. Poor kid. I figure he ended up being banned from the game, cause I haven't seen him in a long time. And, sorry to say, I'm not sorry I haven't. Some of these griefers are just mental cases. coco _____________________

I am neither. I have never reported and I have never griefed. I was making an observation (albeit a very angry observation). I am not feeling zen today so I am not behaving zen and I am sure it will come back and lop off half of my tush. There are extremes of behavior in game that are very distressing on both sides. By all means report the ne'er do well that cages and bombs until you think he needs a therapist...but for heaven's sake..leave the poor fella who blurted out a no-no in the WA alone. After all, your ears did not shrivel up and fall off. I stand by the idea of walking away from the trigger happy. I also believe in smiling at the verbal assaulter. There are certain people in game who you KNOW like to push and who you KNOW are just plain old freaks of nature...why sweat it? You say "why should *I* have to be the one to walk away?" and the answer is "because YOU are a mature adult and can handle the situation as such". I got very angry when I realized I might never see certain friends of mine in game again and I got to thinking about the whys of it. Yes, they are immature. Yes, they are annoying. But they sure as heckfire on a bun are more entertaining than your avarage champion of the pickup line. If you have ever met one of these witty, deadly clever, short tempered persons..you know of what I speak. Although there is a high price to pay, I think it is worth it just to have them around. |

Each just as wrong, and righteous as the other! North and south! Up and down! What brought the issue of the oppressed misunderstood griefer to your attention then? A friend who got suspended for doing nothing perhaps? I believe you have solved LL's basic-to-premium conversion problem. There is too much attrition due to people being permabanned for saying a no-no in the welcome area. As a matter of fact, Linden has an entire team dedicated to the persecution of those who don't mention the Devil's domain as anything but "H-E-double-hockeysticks". There are many steps in that process and opportunites to alter ones behavior a bit. Even though humor is a matter of taste, I'd wager that Pandastrong was funnier than all of your amusing friends rolled up into one barrel of monkeys. Ms. Coral, I'm still interested in hearing examples of the abuse reported situations you felt reflected a lack of humor on the part of the reporter. |
