I think this is an issue of "terminology."
The term "kick" is used by us to mean "logging someone out without any notice." This is done only in emergency situations.
It's not a pejorative term the way we use it...but I can see how it might sound pejorative to people. That was completely unintentional.
Take care, -Pathfinder

Take care, -Pathfinder Yes - my first thought was Mal reacted to the word "kick" and Jeska was just doing her job and using shop talk... Mal didn't you have an event scheduled at the time of the viscious inWorld attack?

I think of it as an issue of termination. As in, terminate the bums who caused this! Off the planet, preferably. coco

From: Malachi Petunia Could you be a slightly more antagonistic?Sure maybe someone pulled off another griefball attack today, but you don't really have to be so open about your contempt for your customers, do you? How in the world did you manage to read "contempt for your customers" into that post? Talk about reading inbetween the lines... *boggles*

From: Malachi Petunia I posted hastily, let me see if I can make this a little more clear: - You have a goodly number of customers who have cause to be irritated with SL service over the last few weeks
- You've recently had a grid-killing "griefball" attack that was pretty well publicized
- There are numerous, pretty obvious, gridwide attack methods that are not too hard to conjure up if motivated
- Linden Lab is probably pretty irritated over the 1.7 hassles and the associated bad karma
All that could prompt the rather contemptuous "possible resident action" claim. You folks are human, too. However, the one thing that I can guarantee will only exacerbate ill-will between your customer base and LL is to come out with contemptuous finger pointing as you've just engaged in. If the grid had to be taken down for any reason, just say that; you don't put out fires with gasoline. I'm sorry, I see absolutely nothing in Jeska's statement that was contemptuous. It was a factual statement and that's as far as it apears to go.

Some Times Its good speak your mind.......Since there are a few nanan this post is reported because of bla bla bla..........by a goody too shoes going around these days reporting posts THEY/he/she feels is not right.gesh............. Anyways....... Like all outcome in problems both the good and bad needs to be said. Promotoing only the good does more harm then good. But reporting only bad is just as bad. hence hearing Malachi`s views here is a important one. Anyone can go RAH RAH RAH lets do this and that but really folks.........does this prove anything? Not likely........ LL does care about downtime and users on the most part. But showing our views is indeed a important issue to be learned form. Since these days LLabs is only promoting good and irgoring the bad in most cases ( well LLabs are a money making company too) The need to balance all sides of the issue. Then address what is bring in their income. Just a thought.

"Possible resident action" = Not us this time! Love, Linden.
I'm sure they just wanted to make it absolutely clear that all us patient, understanding, and thoughtful folks understood they don't bring the grid down just to watch the forums go up in Flames.

"possible resident action" doesn't even imply malicious action. "2553 avs just went to see the new shiny thing in Puce(25,100) and the server melted through the bottom of the rack" All it says is that something went wrong and they think that something one or more people did might (see also: Possible) have contributed to it, based on what information they had at the time. That doesn't suggest that anyone did anything wrong, or naughty or that they weren't supposed to. That doesn't mean that anyone intended to break things. That's just the way some of us are reading it.

only time I was mad was when I got the "kicked by an administrator" message, instead if the regular sim crash.. I was showing a guy my anti push(and I had my pusher out.. since something has to hit me if I am going to prove I am push-proof).. and he had just 'tested' it.. everyone loves the pusher robot.. anyway. I got kicked the second he returned to earth, and so I was really steamed... then I found out some dork did it and I went off to make coffee and wait for the grid to get back. :3

From: Cory Edo How do you get contempt out of "possibly due to resident action"? Christ, if they just said the Grid was going down, then every other thread in General would be about WHATS GOING ON and THEY NEVER TELL US ANYTHING and SL IS UNSTABLE and NICE PATCH ASSHOLES and on and on and friggin' on. Sounds like they're actually trying to give us a little information like we're always screaming at them to. I sincerely doubt they hold their entire customer base responsible for one or two griefer's actions, unlike some of us to do LL themselves. i agree i am not the most gentle when it comes to critiquing LL, but this is the type of info I want. this transparency really is a major positive imho cory, well said mal, I am sorry you were offended but I honestly don't think it was antagonistic at all

Malachi, You were really reading something into that post that was in your mind only, and didn't exist in reality. I realise that you are not too happy with the Lindens at the moment, but please don't let your feelings cloud your judgement. They have certainly done so in this thread.

From: Hiro Pendragon I'd like my 10 minutes back that I wasted reading this thread. What about the 10 minutes you wasted posting your absolutely hilarious spoof of this thread? If we're asking for time back, I guess you owe me a few hours from the last 6 months, all in all. And on the content of this thread. People know I'm going through a moaning phase, but I don't see what you're saying here Malachi. I think they were just pleased they could blame a problem on somebody else for a change Not the most professional of announcements but I suspect it was made in a rush.

The Linden that disturbs me is Faux Linden, Faux Linden has no manners at all. From: Faux Linden We have no contempt for users. Users are beneath contempt. From: Faux Linden Hah Hah look at those losers whining! From: Faux Linden Maybe next time he will think twice about running a script from a stranger, even if it was a Linden, hee hee. An expecially disturbing comment is the one below: From: Faux Linden I wonder how much you could get for users if you sold them by the pound?

When I questioned Faux Linden about his treatment of users he replied From: someone Shut up, skag, you make me want to puke. The Faux comment that hurt the most, though, was: From: someone No, Sue, I will not slow dance with you. I would rather die. I thought that was a bit over the top.

Cause and Consequence
11-11-2005 12:27
When one receives bad news, one tends to receive it better if one sees a cause for the bad news. That's textbook customer relations. I, for one, want answers. I like to know why the grid is down. If it is down due to resident action, then so be it. I like being told the truth about things. From: Malachi Petunia I posted hastily, let me see if I can make this a little more clear: - You have a goodly number of customers who have cause to be irritated with SL service over the last few weeks
- You've recently had a grid-killing "griefball" attack that was pretty well publicized
