I know what you feel like. Second Life is not very reliable and has many flawa and problems. It is indeed enough to drive a person to drink and cuss.

Yep. Poor Rosieri has a sim fps that looks like somebody's drunk. Bouncing from 32 to 40 and back to 28 and so forth.
However, the Blog says the grid is "healthy" again!
I'm glad to have y'all here to share these things with, while I have you anyway. I'd rather talk to you than to the Lindens about it.
It's the difference between talking to people who really know what is going on on the grid, and to those who don't, to put it bluntly.

I just spent a half an hour trying to get my clothes to rez (hit appearance, take off, put on, log off, log on, clear cache...) to show to someone on an otherwise empty sim. I, too, am tired of this.

The past week has been hellish for lag nearly everywhere for me. It's either not too good or really, really horrid. :/

I wonder also, my biggest problem is slow loading textures and item contents. No crashes and the lag is no worse generally than before. My system is far from kick ass. Dell 2.8 gig P4 Nivida 6800GS AGP 1 gig, DDR XP pro crap sound card Cable modem with the slowest service they sell I have local light on, fog 4.0, view like 100 or something, particles set way low, I can't remember exactly. I know I can tell a big difference even with minor changes in the graphics settings.

I'm getting some pretty horrendous lag in places as well. The ping to the sim increases astronomically and before I know it I too am walking off in strange directions unable to stop, or walking so slow I just give up. It’s rather sad, because in a room with 10-20 av’s, my frame rate stays around the 20fps mark with every graphical feature turned up to max (something I am happy about). If LL could get their end sorted out, SL could become really enjoyable.
Wait what am I saying, they would rather just add new features that don’t add much to the general experience (or sometimes in fact take away) than sort out the massive list of bugs and server destroying code. I feel sorry for those little Opertrons!

Uhm... anyone who complains about lag issues should ask herself or himself a few questions.
1.) Am I paying for this game? If the answer to this is No - well. How can you possibly complain then? If you can answer the question with Yes - well, I've played 7 MMORPGs so far and learned that the fact you pay a small monthly fee is no guarantee that you can play. My cable TV and DSL costs much more than $10 a month, and even there I can never be sure that it will work 24/7.
2.) Do I own land in the region affected by the lag? If so, you can indeed complain. But before you do that, look around, at your home and the places of your neighbours - all those scripted objects, rotating logos, light effects, particle stuff, thousands of scripts running on a single server. Look at the overload of textures, many of them much larger than they need to be. Look at all the people, everyone carrying a dozen scripts and 30 additional textures around. I had a look at a pair of shoes lately, with color changing and particle effect scripts; they were not modify protected, and what I saw in there gave me nightmares. 20 unneeded variables, 3 scripts listening on the public chat channel 0 and other unneeded performance killers. Then think of walk replacers, animation overrides, each one loading a different set of animations... and then imagine that each single client has to download all this stuff. Think of the traffic the server and the database have to handle, especially in a Welcome area. Whenever I try to imagine it, I'm astonished it works at all.
3.) What can I do to avoid lag? Most simple: avoid overcrowded places. It's nice to meet a lot of people, sure, but even MMORPGs with a fixed set of 3D models can be measured rather in seconds per frame than frames per second, as soon as 50 players or more meet at the same place. If you can afford it, buy an own plot of land, in a quiet sim without large clubs or shopping centers, and invite your friends to visit you there. Log out at home or in a usually quiet area, so your client doesn't have to try to connect to an already overstrained server.

From: Ishtara Rothschild Uhm... anyone who complains about lag issues should ask herself or himself a few questions.
1.) Am I paying for this game? Not directly, and I never would pay for a game this buggy to be honest. I have bought a few which were really quite bad and took them back to the shop, returns policy or not I got my money back. If LL put out a better product, I would directly pay for it. From: Ishtara Rothschild 2.) Do I own land in the region affected by the lag? No, and I never will once again. I have seen the trouble some sim admin go through to keep it up and running. The constant calls to LL in some form or another. No thanks. I pity them for the trouble it costs them - but am happy to contribute to their tier with donations. From: Ishtara Rothschild 3.) What can I do to avoid lag? Let's get this straight, I avoid lag. I don't wear lots of scripted items, the few I do are simple and do not listen on the main channels etc. Some of the sim's I've been in recently lag like mad when there are more than 5 people in close proximity. This simply is not good enough as a platform. It would be perfectly understandable if LL had a policy of tackling bugs/lag aggressively - but they don't, they would rather add silly new features that often either break things or make them worse. The ones that work often increase the minimum requirements to actually run the game, which although does not affect me, does annoy me for friends etc. The question really should be, what can LL do to avoid so much lag? I don't goto the most busy places, although my pc can handle it just fine, the servers can not. A few questions for you: 1) Do you work for LL? Or are you just a fanboy that is blinded by the terrible mistakes a for-profit company makes? 2) Why do you care what people complain about? If it offends you somehow, why not read something else? 3) Do you pay for a broken piece of software that is supposed to be a user-based development platform among other things? Do you see why LL doesn't charge now? A lot of people are overly down on LL no matter what they do, others are overly protective of a for-profit company as if they are best friends - you appear to be the latter. I'll never be either, but that doesn't mean I don't have the right to come here and state what is glaringly obvious with respect to LL's policy of resolving these issues.

What can I do to avoid lag? 1) Yes. 2) Yes. 3) I've been around long enough to know what causes lag. No lag on Monday and lag yesterday and today without changing anything...Things that make you go WTF? I've no idea where the cause of the lag is, but it's not restricted to any one place, or type of build, or script, or anything in-world. This has to be in handling code, server software, server hardware, or network config/hardware. I feel sorry for the Grid Monkeys working on this one. *tosses them a 'nanna* No starting clue as to where to look and seamingly random problems with no coralation to each other. I imagine they cursing harder than we are....well....close....maybe.... *goes off to curse lag some more* ~Jessy

There is definately a non-localised problem with the grid at the moment.

From: LilMissy Fox I have just spent over an hour trying to stay in the welcome area. Okie, well, all things considered, if I have a problem with the WA, I learned that abstinance is the solution. Go some place else? One of the big reasons the WA lags is the fact that it's chopped up between four sims-- I've discovered long ago that four sim corners are naturally slow, since you have multiple servers and clients interacting. I find Waterhead is smooth in comparison. Do I lag everywhere? No. Do I lag in the WA? YES. Solution: Go anywhere else. ^^
