My best (as recorded by llGetAgentSize) is 2.318691m, or 91.2870472 inches = just over 7 ft 7 inches. Can anyone get a taller av with some crazy combination of the sliders?

Dammit, I thought I could increase height by messing with the hair, but now I just have really silly looking big hair.

This is actually a bit of a nonissue --

SL's scale is not accurate.
The room I am in right now (which is fairly big), is 5x4x3.5m in size. Make a cube that size, it doesnt look like anyone could fit in there, does it? So, with Avatar sizes, there's a bit of scaling required, to fit reality. All in all, I wouldnt trust the agent's height because the scale doesnt match up with the real world.

Yup, pretty much what I was saying. If you build by eye and wind up with something that looks right, who cares if the engine thinks you are 7 feet tall?

Think about the "average" room size: 10m x 10m.

Have you seen many rooms in people's houses that are 30' by 30'?

I'm a 6'1" female in real life, so I made my av tall as well. Nothing to do with "unrealistic dreams of grandeur" only a representation of my real self, and I think it looks better on the avs. But thanks for the snotty comment, and the implication that being tall is somehow grand. It's usually only short people that think that being tall is something grand. Tall people usually just think it's hard to find pants long enough.

Ohh.. I so much second that.... being slightly shorter then you in rl (5'11";) I'm still fairly tall, even for Dutch standards. Luckily lots of guys here are tall(er) as well :) But the kind of remarks made are soooo stereotypical, and often made out of envy ;)

I have the grandness to be five feet one-and-a-half inches in RL. My avie is pretty near what it was on arrival in SL give or take a bit to adjust to friends. I'm tall here and I like the way it looks. I measured myself two days ago. Apparently I'm six feet five inches. So what?

In FL, there are enormous advantages to height, and some annoyances. Tall people can reach the top shelves (hell, at your shortness, you'd have a hard time reaching a middle shelf!) and change lightbulbs (see, light comes from electrically-stimulated wires in hollow bulbs WAAAAAY up there in the ceiling. You might not be able to see that far, but it's there) without a stepladder. Tall people can see over crowds of "normal" midgets. Tall people get more promotions and are treated with more respect than short people; it's almost comical when you look at groups of business executives, or watch a waiter leap to serve the tall person and ignore the nigh-invisible midgets. As long as the runts aren't better-armed, a tall person is in almost no danger walking around at night.

The down sides? Good clothes are slightly harder to find (until extreme height, they cost about the same). I recently annoyed/amused a short Macy's clerk by asking if they had "adult size socks, er, size 13+?". "No, sir, we only have childrens' sizes. Have you tried Rochester Big and Tall?"

Kimi Kimi Kimi

lmao

I am glad you're so tall. you must be quite the specimen

still with all this bragging going on, I still somehow get the impression you come up , erm, short somewhere...

I guess you just must be overcompensating.

From: Kimi Harbinger

You can try to hit or throw someone who weighs twice as much as you can lift, but they won't even notice you.

And FYI, Bruce Lee was 5'7

I bet you wouldn't notice him either, huh, little man?

From: Eamonn Soothsayer
...What Susie and I are referring to are the ones who make themselves eight feet tall or so. Nothing wrong with 6'1" ...heck, nothing wrong with 6'5" or even 7 feet if that's what you are in real life.

your mean spirited attack on Eamonn and alluding to a Napoleon complex while leading your own little battle of Waterloo is worth a laugh and quite revealing, prolly the type of laugh you are used to hearing when the small calibre pistol you are packing is unholstered, providing of course that you can even make it to the shooting range, much less have ammo in the gun.

i wonder what tiny detail made you feel that in order to measure up you had to stroke yourself with such a below average public manner

correct me if I am wrong, although I assume you "never measured exactly" your inner character to find out, right?

Hahaha this is so true! I have this friend who is short and skinny... he weighs about half as much as me. Heck, I weigh more than he and his gf put together.
The other day he was being a little annoying, so I gave him a little push and he ended up 10 feet away from me. Then he RUNS at me to push me and it was like hitting a brick wall! So very funny :)

Try mouselook. This perceived distortion of scale is probably due to the fact everyone's 7 feet tall in SL and the camera is positioned very far behind the avatar.

The best approach is to simply leap at your attacker and pop both his eyeballs out with your thumbs, as quickly as you can. I mean really dig in and don't worry about getting blood everywhere. Works like a charm.

Eh, my av is near the minimum height for the sliders. It is nice to be different than the dials-maxxed-out herd. Not that there's anything wrong with that. =P [insert lame joke about UNDERcompensating]

That's assuming of course that you can reach that high =)

I'm 5'5' in FL, and when I tried to make my avie that height, it was just too short. So she is 5'8".... still short, and for some reason, others want to take care of her.

Just to answer the original post.

I am 5'10 RL and the same in SL, I will not change it. My neck and back hurts when I try and look at taller people faces, it makes my AV do this weird backward lean pose. But I am OK with others being taller than me, it's a fantasy world after all, you can be whatever and whoever you like. As long as you do not try to make others feel bad about the way they look, everything will be ok.
Just like rl, being *normal* is very different for everyone. Be who you want to be and let others go on with their lives. No need to trash everyone who has different opinion.
Here's my 5 cents. :)

Ciri I totally agree with you !

In RL I'm 5'299", my daughters are already looking down on me even though they're still teens, I don't have a clue what height I am in SL and frankly I couldn't care less :D

I am trying to make poses and animations that work well on as many people as possible.

I get a kiss looking beautiful on myself and my alt, then I try it with anyone else and eek! someone's nose gets devoured!

How about everyone just sets their silders so they are the same height as either myself or my alt? Then all the animations in SL can be pefect!

Oh, and I hereby patent my exact height in advance :)

When I first started SL I spent almost 2 hours just making my av on orientation island. I wanted everything to look in proportion. I made myself pretty tall because I am tall irl. When I came out to the old Welcome Area, I saw how ridiculously tall I looked compared to others and I adjusted it down a bit. I am still tall but not as bad as before. I like being tall and I could care less what anyone else thinks. I don't go around making fun of people I consider short.

The only issue I have is when I buy shoes and they are for a size 0 foot :( Even on a normal size av, size 0 shoes look stupid because of the ankle hump that appears when you drop your feet down to 0...

... man, this thread makes the lost baby and Anshe is Satan threads look like exercises in lucidity...

It's a game. Many people like tall characters in their games. Some of the people who like tall avvies are tall in Real Life. Some of them are short. Most likely, some of them are in wheelchairs or bedridden or so obese that it would be more sensible to assign them a diameter than a height.

Yes, scale and perspective are a little problematical in this game. My first avvie, when measured, was a freakin' foot taller than I thought she was. To those who can accurately assess an avatar's height without some kind of tool... good job! To those who cannot, ignore people yelling 'ZOMG tall peeples is TEH SUXXORZ!' and make avatars that you like and that you enjoy playing.

And yes, Bruce Lee was 5'7", but he doesn't play SL so his opinion doesn't count. :)

You lose your wager. My FL avatar is 6'3". In SL, my avatar is not quite at the maximum settings, because it looked as close to my FL avatar's proportions as possible, but I never measured exactly.

In FL, runt males almost always have delusions of adequacy, Napoleon complexes, and claim to "know martial arts", but whenever these things are tested for real, they're weak little beta male yappy-dogs. You can try to hit or throw someone who weighs twice as much as you can lift, but they won't even notice you. Please be serious. If I thought you'd listen, I'd tell you to carry a gun for self-defense, not to rely on your fantasies.

Compact cars, of course, are almost impossible. My friends take pity on me and let me always ride shotgun if I must travel with them, and even then it's like Bob from The Incredibles in his little box car. Business-class air travel is uncomfortable at best; good thing there's first class, and I'm paid well enough to afford it. I'm not quite at the size where joints would be a major health problem, but for the very tallest, that's an issue. It's all pretty minor, though.

In SL, there's little or no difficulty, because every area has to be big enough for camera movement anyway, and clothes expand to fit. Because tall characters are scaled proportional to the world, they look better, but that's about it. There's no physical advantages. However, the psychological advantage is still there--you've just proven it with your mean-spirited little rant. You're so crippled by shortness of spirit that you can't even make yourself tall in a world where you can be an Olympian God if you wish. How tragic.

and therein lies the argument for delusions of grandeur. :D
