if yes, then why is it allowed to build and even worse, sell them? , is it allowed to sell grid crasher tools for example? (i dont think so)
don't tell me there is a "moderate use" of a tool that force you to relog, can crash your client or mangle attachments.

Seriously, I would be interested in if there is a use for them also. Would be nice if Linden used one against griefers just before banning them. Give them whole "you've been pwned!" feeling. And I've often wanted an orbit script for greeter bots. But neither of those are likely good reasons to have it. I think you have a valid point.

don't tell me there is a "moderate use" of a tool that force you to relog, can crash your client or mangle attachments. Because building them doesn't hurt anyone. Simple as that.

From: Reitsuki Kojima Because building them doesn't hurt anyone. Simple as that. This is nonsense. Building and selling orbiters quite obviously hurts people. It makes orbiters available and enables people who other wise wouldn't be able to to do it. If you are making ammunitions and poisons for Nazis surely you are complicit in Nazi crimes. This is just the same weak moral evasion that weapons makers everywhere engage in.

i can understand guns , guns can be used as a game in sl and can look good, but orbiters just... orbit, and in no twisted angle i can see a legitimate use to orbiting

If you can't find it, I'd appreciate an apology for the Nazi analogy. Well I apologise if you thought that was over the top or aimed at you (it might have been in the first instance and it wasn't in the second). I was only making a very common reference to the general moral argument of arms makers and sellers. It seemed like you were making the standard "weapons don't kill people, *people* kill people" argument, so I was responding with the standard retort or counter argument to that. The example about weapons makers who collaborate with fascist type military states (including Nazi Germany), shows how ultimately hollow that argument is. If you make and provide a thing that has grief as its only use or purpose then you are as guilty as those who use it. I agree that if, as you say, one only makes it and never sells it or uses it on anyone then it would be okay, but that's a bit of a dodge if you ask me. Who is going to make a weapon and never use it or sell it? It's such a hypothetical situation that would make up such a minor part of the "weapons market" that it has no real meaning or import as an argument IMO.

Personally I think orbiters are a mild annoyance at best. I have been orbited more times than I can remember in the combat sims, and frankly it's a wuss weapon. Being killed or pushed really hard is more annoying.
If you are orbited, just bring up your map and select a point in the sim next to you. Then go to the field where you can manually enter the x,y and z points to tp to. Put 40 meters in the z axis, hit tab then teleport. Back down in the sim, fly over and kill the person who orbited you using a shield busting bullet weapon (making sure you stay our of range of their orbiter, which is 96 meters). Total time from being orbited to killing the toad that did it, maybe 10 seconds.
Orbiters are a joke. Only wusses use them. LOL

I'm no authority, but my impression is that building, selling, owning, and using against a consenting (keyword) party is not a TOS violation. Using again an unconsenting party would be a TOS violation. HP

I only use my orbiter when I'm in a combat sim and someone's being a twit, I'm being griefed and want enough time to file an AR, or...
Well, if it's /really funny/.

Possession of an orbiter is not against the Community Standards. It clearly words the relevant portion as: Assault Most areas in Second Life are identified as Safe. Assault in Second Life means: shooting, pushing, or shoving another Resident in a Safe Area (see Global Standards below); creating or using scripted objects which singularly or persistently target another Resident in a manner which prevents their enjoyment of Second Life.
Usage of an orbiter can be against the CS, depending on context. In a damage-enabled area, weapons usage is allowed. That's why they exist--so avatars can combat and throw each other around. It should also be noted there are legitimate uses for pushing avatars, such as certain random travel devices I am fond of. (I'm orbiting myself, in effect.)

torley we aren't talking about a little push we talk about stuffs hat are designed to throw you at 10M 20M meter up so you are forced to either teleport, relog if teleport fail , even worse the client crash sometimes and the prims of attachments have tendencies to drift due to the floating point error at such heights.
How can you even say it's an acceptable tool, even in combat zones. Also Most orbiters arent designed to be used in combat zones, the only use they have is to be able to cause trouble even out of a dammage zone.
I think LL should re examine it's position, there is a whole gap between a weapon, wich will push you mildly or cause dammages in a dammage enabled sim, or that even is simply decorative, and a tool wich the only possible use is to send avatars high enough they would need several hours to go down by themselve if they didn't crash or the tp suddently block.
Sure i know in america there are rights to possess weapons and not to use it, but let me ask, are citizens of america allowed to own nukes? no.

Until someone abuses someone else, its just a script in a prim.
Besides, getting LL to say "you can't build/script this" opens up a huge ass can of worms.

Has anyone considered that it's simple to crash a SIM, any sim, instantly, with Starax's Wand? So, that well known malcontent Starax is making (shock horror! ) and worse, SELLING (it shouldn't be allowed! ), a device that can and does crash sims. OK, so, ban sales of Starax's wand? Or how about ban him for a while for making such a hideous griefing tool? Oh, and while we're at it, why not ban anyone who owns one - like most Lindens for instance? Point taken? It's like the old 'guns don kill people - people kill people' argument. You want to live in a 'nanny state'? SL definitely isn't the place for you.

I don't often say this, even in these forums, BUT GET A FREAKING GRIP ON REALITY. You are evoking Nazi war crimes and RL ammunitions and comparing it to with avatars being bounced around the grid. That is just patently absurd. Step away from the computer slowly and remind yourself NO ONE IS BEING HARMED BY BEING ORBITED.

Hehe Reminds me of the not too old joke: "The US knows that Iraq has weapons of mass destruction. How do they know? They kept the receipts! [of selling them the weapons]" Too bad for the joke it's not far from the truth
