Assuming you're serious... why? These are two of the most useful and user friendly features Second Life ever had, and they were removed. What is the justification behind your disapproval of bringing them back? I'm really interested - I just don't see how anyone could object (aside from a personal agenda related to their business, of course). I don't see that it requires an explanation to approve of reintroducing them - this is pretty self explanatory stuff since it's a call to bring back old features, but I think if you really do disapprove of the feature then you should state why?

Incidentally, Mr Egg - why the hell isnt this is feature suggestions? Have you made a votey thing for it? I'd put my votes, my alts votes and my friends who I have their passwords votes to it :p

Yeah, but this one makes more sense than the rest of them put together. And as you can see, people rilly DO want to bring it back. So get off your ass, make a feature suggestion of it, and get a proposal together :p

There's been numerous threads about this in feature suggestions already, and there is also more than one proposal about P2P teleport in the voting tool.
Why don't you get off your ass and go look for them? :p

Because the voting tool is a fucking sad little joke. I'm not going LOOKING for features in that piece of shit. But if someone takes the time to put a proposal together and link it to a discussion thread, I'll take the time to vote for it. :)

And yes. That's part of the problem. There's a half a dozen differently worded but same proposals for all sorts of shit. And since none of them ever actually get anywhere, get merged, responded to or implemented it's totally obvious that the Lindens couldn't give a flying fuck what we actually want as features anyway!

Point-to-point teleporting sounds wonderful, one can zip anywhere without concern to location of teleport stations. But with all good comes some bad, so we have to wiegh the benefits to the negatives.

This topic has been discussed in detail in many threads that may be still avaliable to view, but I would like to go over a two reasons why I think it's a bad idea for all, not just business owners.

Firstly, telehubs keep lag low in residential areas. Because of the ability to teleport directly home, many buy home land far from telehubs, to avoid the business traffic. They know for people to disturb them, they will need to fly long distance. This offers a certain level of privacy that would be lost if P2P is brought back. The hubs act as a means of zoning, without the need for manpower to enforce. With P2P, businesses would build malls, casinos, tringo games etc etc all around the map, even in your back yard. Any business owner knows, to have a successful business, location is the most important aspect right after product. Telehubs help keep lag low in residential areas.

Secondly, hubs offer a cental location where people can meet others. With the map so large, and the people so widely spread out, the hubs offer a "bumping into others" place. I realize most people fly right away, to their destination, a few do linger in hopes of meeting someone with whom to chat. Newer users are most likely to hang around the areas where others pass by often. So clearly, hubs offer a central location to meet others, even if few use it.

In conclusion, telehubs keep lag low in residential areas by creating a self-policed zoning method and hubs offer a cental location where people can meet others. For those reasons I would reject the idea of changing the telehub system.

Do you seriously believe this? It doesn't match my observation of the mainland at all. Where are these low lag residential areas not owned by single landlords that impose lag restrictions? Better yet, where are these telehubcentric meeting areas other than the Welcome Area?

I've convinced people that we need p2p over the years. Perhaps you can convince me otherwise. But you'll have to give me a good number landmarks to visit that back up these nebulous, theoretical claims.

I live in one of the most remote places in SL, specifically chosen to be as far away from a hub as humanly possible, and I still have crazy laggy / commercial neighbors.

I will gladly provide landmarks when I get home. But if you have access to SL when it's online, simply fly to any of the sims farthest from hubs, if you find equal lag to any hub area, send me the landmark, I'd like to see your argument in action.

Even the zoned areas can be over built. Apartments and large groups living in a sim will cause lag. Some residential areas can be overly builtup as well, but generally speaking, they don't use all avaliable prim.

But to suggest lag is equal far from hubs in general would clearly be wrong by any standards, and that hasn't been one of the arguments I have heard from the pro-P2P crowd. They might argue several other points, but that isn't one of them. One point they argued is businesses will pop up anywhere, and while it may be true, few can survive far from hubs for long.

All hubs act as a meeting area. Go to one and wait around.

If you would like me to find you a nce lag free area far from a hub for you to move to, I'd be happy to do it. There are many. I was land shopping this week so I'm familiar with what's out there, how laggy it is, and how far from a hub one should be to avoid the lag. I find if one stays at least 400m from a hub, the chances of being lagged reduces dramatically.
