So many people predicting doom and gloom to the grid... There are so many things which might bring about the end of days to our world... Which doomsday devices do you think are MORE likely to play a roll? (profitability should be 'lack of' up there... oops.) To be fair, please select no more than half the options!

Economic ruin is the fastest way to THERE'dom.
Keep the economy strong. Keep SL rolling.

I think being bought out will be the downfall, if there is one. I'm not quite ready to sign the death certificate yet, but I think "Under New Management" will probably be listed as COD.

From: nimrod Yaffle Ph34r teh pie monster! There was no room for pie in this poll. There was room in my tummy though... it's safely recorded there. (the first draft of the doomsday list had 15, and did include "insufficient pie!" as an option. )

My bet's on a freak natural disaster such as a earthquake or asteroid, for some reason. I just got that hunch...

I see no evidence or need to worry that SL is ending. Just a lot of people who like to be doomsayers cause its cool.

From: FlipperPA Peregrine Philip, Phoenix, Andrew and Ian on a bender. You call that the death of Second Life, I call that a good Tuesday.

From: FlipperPA Peregrine Philip, Phoenix, Andrew and Ian on a bender. Talk about "Betting the farm" at a poker game! Question is... who would most likely to be sitting across the table? -- What's lost in Vegas... stays in Vegas.

The absurd land prices. When something else comes along with many orders of magnitude cheaper virtual land, I think it's likely that people will use that instead.

From: Jopsy Pendragon Which do you think we should fear most? I'd like to suggest a general, non-specific fear that takes control of our lives and makes us prisoners of our own minds. That way no matter how the world ends you can was "Told you so!"

SL will be snuffed out when it is crushed under a massive heap of naive "ZOMG SL IS DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMED!!!!1" posts.

I'd have to say, new competition. Someone who does what people come to SL for, only doing it better. Other factors like the value of the $L dropping to the point that content creators leave, griefing increasing while LL continues to do nothing about it, etc., will be contributing factors, but most people are likely to stick it out until something clearly better comes along. SL occupies a fairly unique place currently. There's nothing really that does what SL does and does it as well as SL does. Until then, I think that SL is safe.

I really think if the professional content creators left SL, SL will continue to thrive. There is enough free stuff to please just about anybody. I love to see new and cool stuff being built but it's not a show stopper for me. I think SL is just a fancy chat room for most folks.
