So who would have a decent computer, a high speed internet connection, a place to sleep and food, but little spare money and would rather spend their time making pennies in a chat room than work a crap job? You may have something there with the college students, but how much does the average SL shopkeeper make a day? Is it all that much more? |

I see what you're saying about people not necessarily being able to work as much as they want or add hours at any time. I wonder about how many people that accounts for though. Well, that accounts for pretty much everyone I know... _____________________

Well It pays for my interent and then some. I throw it all in ginko and get even more.
Also, most computers can use less electricity than a light bulb. True some of the extream comptuers can have up to 500+ watt power boxes but they don't use that much except if your burning cds, listening to music and playing a high end graphic intensive game. (Which SL is far from) Including the monitor that makes for maybe 2 light bulbs. (Turn it off when your away) I'm one of those who sit on money seats. I have 4 accounts and 2 computers that I own. One Av "works" and sits on the money seats. While I run around doing what I like in SL with my other av. And when I'm not.. yep I have both sit on a money seat. My brother does the same with my 3rd account. And my sis and another friend of mine use the 4th account once in a great while. She might leave her laptop on over night on a money seat but I don't see any of that money. So that doesn't matter. But I still make enough to pay for interenet, and extrea one or two free meals a week, and then still have some left over for Ginko. And Ginko returns even more with every deposit. Plus the compounding interest which I don't pay attention to. But I know its adding up. The point is. Yeah. It's worth it! LOL If you think about it.. it's not much different in real life. We work and have jobs. So why not make your AV work while you away or aslpeep. I just hope they don't bring out anti-labor laws against avatars. ![]() Ok thats just stupid. But here's a thought. Why not make our avatars do animations in a factory as if it was actually getting PAYED for work. Just for kicks and grins ![]() Or actually make a factory ownable by a player and have them NEED avatars to work and produce copies of stuff. It's a bit late for that since we all can copy things. But just a thought. Update: Just another little thought. I would think the Lindens would LOVE something like avatars working while we are away. It would provide a high Active-Player base that they can boast about and throw in the face of other games out there. |

I imagine people do this when they are away from the keyboard and let the numbers build up over time. In one day, if someone actively plays SL for 4 hours (and doesnt do anything else with their computer), that leaves 20 hours to camp out while they're away. That would be 360L which isn't bad for doing nothing. You'll have to download a program to keep you connected to SL so you don't time-out and, of coarse, have your computer on and connected to the internet the whole time. HP _____________________

So, someone wanna work out figures for how many accounts you need to get a decent income off this and how long it'd take to pay off al the $10s for buying said accounts?
I would, but I'm feeling lazy. _____________________

I would, but I'm feeling lazy. If you ever thought one client of SL was slow, well, you were probably right, but the fourth alt running at a time is really really bad. Also of course as soon as you get the machine bogged way the heck down, someone you like appears and you can't respond properly, It's too bad we can't have multiple copies of one avatar running at the same time, that would be nice and silly. _____________________

So, someone wanna work out figures for how many accounts you need to get a decent income off this and how long it'd take to pay off al the $10s for buying said accounts? I would, but I'm feeling lazy. Well we are only supposed to have 5 I think. But I hear some have more than that. Heh. but I think its something like: L$4 x 6 = L$24 per hour x 5 accounts = $L120 per hour x 24 hours = $L2880 a day. Converted to USD = $11.00 a day? (converting with 0.00382) Thats the last price I saw on $L a week ago or so. Anyway, $11.00 x 7 days = $77.00 a week x 4 weeks = $308? Minus a few fee's for selling and what not I'd say $300 is a decent secondary income. I think thats right. Someone double check that though hehe. It definitly wont' take over my day job. But that is the max with all 5 accounts on 24/7 30 days a week. Not counting crashes, updates, um what else.. oh Updates. And fighting over the chairs if that starts to happen. (preps his shields) ![]() Unless there is a lot of people willing to pay for traffic, I have a feeling the money seats will become too hard to find. Then again, for some people like myself, $300 is a lot. But for others its just not worth bothering with. So thats probably jumping the gun. Who knows what will be bringing money in next month anyway. Meanwhile, I got dibbs at XL Casino!! ![]() Edit: Did I say 30 days a week? ![]() |

One also has to factor in the aggravation value of flying the fourth or fifth av into the free money spot. ![]() Still, guiding them in wouldn't be too much of a problem, just move them in running one at a time, then you just have to tell them all to sit once you've started multiple clients (on the spare PC so the main one is free to interact with people on ![]() Minus a few fee's for selling and what not I'd say $300 is a decent secondary income. ![]() _____________________

Bah. Whatever. Let the pod people spend hours and days milking their free basic accounts to make 50 cents per day; I'll be building, exploring, socializing, and enjoying SL the way it was meant to.

Why do I feel the need to defend myself and point out this is all in jest? I know I shouldn't need to, but something impels me to. Maybe it's your sinister forum av... ![]() obey digeridoo _____________________
