The way I see it, when fed up people start leaving SL, without the forums LL will be left wondering why, where with the forums the would just have to read answers and general to find out why. They're hurting themselves.

It's really hard to say. I can actually offer a contra-example, watching Horizons viciously moderate their forums and IRC, coupled with a flatly criminal billing system. Everything is not okay there. Stratics offers a Horizon forum specifically for the reasons you mention: http://hz.stratics.com/ Stratics also offers a Second Life forum: http://sl.stratics.com/ - for those who want a quality replacement forum when these ones are finally killed off. The biggest problem that I don't think Linden Lab have really considered is that quelling dissent by closing these forums is not the solution - at least here they are kept under control of sorts. On external forums, there is nothing that they can do, and given the 'free for all' nature of several of the alternatives, I can see that being far more damaging in the long term than investing some decent time and volunteers here. Of course, the best solution would be to fix the problems that are causing the dissent, start listening to the community and acting on it instead of pretending it doesn't exist, but that achievable doesn't appear to be on the list of distillables. Lewis Oh I completely agree. And there can be nothing worse than having these same kinds of complaints as comments in the main blog. That's open to the internet at large, at least here you have to be a member of SL to read the forums. It's bad PR anyway. Unless ofcourse they begin deleting comments. Which sounds par for the course. _____________________

Like I said, stop paying for it if your money's going to support something you don't approve of. I already don't pay for it. What else shall I do? _____________________

...I personally think removing the forums is a ridiculous idea. I use them extensively though I am for the most part an invisable/silent user. I hear that LL feel's other people will pick up the task. Well if that is the attitude, what happens when someone decides they can do a SL better then LL?
If it is inevitable that they go hopefully an experienced person with integrity will take on the task. Perhaps Cristiano Midnight and SLUniverse. But my preference is that they stay where they are. (As if anyone cares lol). |
