I have heard a report now from a person who says he has a complete copy of someone else's inventory in his inventory folder in addition to his own. He has no idea how it got there, and didn't have it prior to 1.7 or one of the succeeding patches.

This person also said that they have females items in their inventory, and they are male.. now what if something you made was in someone elses inventory with full perms?

What perms does this person have on the other person's inventory objects?

You can find out the same way we did moopf the guy is sitting in the welcome area talking about it.

edited to add: that sounded rude, anyway if you have any questions or want to test anything with him ie. transfer goods or anything he is in the welcome area talking about it. has been for a good 20 minutes.. i still havent figured out who he is talking to he is just talking outloud i guess.

I have witnessed a group IM that should have been private being sent to someone not in the group and the person not in the group being able to respond in the group IM.

It seems that something may be badly wrong if the system can't tell who stuff belongs to or who chat messages should be sent to.

What scares me is, what if a high level creators inventory is duplicated? Lets set up a scenario..

What if neph's inventory is duplicated and someone else gets it.. full perms.. i mean how do you recover from that? delete everything you have made and start over.. ugh i hope this is only a hoax.

I've been speaking to the person in question who sent me a screenshot of the other inventory folder which looks like the Library folder but was there in addition to it, with non-Library items in it. Right clicking and selecting properties brought up a properties screen with no options on it.

He relogged and cleared his cache and the folder dissappeared, but the items he copied (he copied a few textures) were still in his normal inventory although the creator tag was blank and permissions were no modify, no copy, no transfer (although it may depend on what the perms are of the original items *shrug*)

He's tried rezzing a cube and texturing it with the normal texture selection, but the copied textures wouldn't show in that list. Next he tried dragging the texture onto the cube and the texture dissappeared from his inventory but the cube didn't change texture and just went white, with no texture at all.

So it might not be as bad as first thought, although it's still quite worrying and only limited tests were done with come copied textures, nothing else. Permissions of the original items may change what can be done, but it's impossible to tell.

What is even more of concern is that the person who started the thread heard of the so-called inventory snafu and also witnessed the group IM snafu and reported them both on the same day. Amazing that with 50,000 avies this person seems to be one of two people supposedly in the know and at the forefront.

Now you know why spaceships always seem to land next to trailer parks.

Lindens can go in accounts and remove items even if the person has full permissions and got the item by mistake or in a less than honest way. No reason to freak out.

Yes, that's true, but when you consider, hypothetically, that it could be a multitude of items taken and/or spread in this way and, if permissions allow, scripts, textures etc. could be seen and saved out of SL, it's actually not as simple as you think. And certainly, I don't think the Lindens could actually keep on top of it and eradicate everything taken in such a way - remember the scripts that were released?

Oh, and what if the person who acquired somebody else's inventory just kept quiet about it but used what was found in there for their own advantage, copying products, code etc. Tracing that would prove difficult I imagine.

I think this is the key point. Bumpity-bump. Hope LL is looking into and resolving any issues like this. Unless it's my inventory having copies of Xylor's or Amy Weebler's or someone else's stuff - then it's OK. ;P

There's definately something a bit spooky going on - I was at the WA a couple of days ago, trying to help a newbie, everytime I tried to give her something (a folder of clothes, dances etc), it went to someone completely different (who wasn't even online at the time). This happened whether I dropped items directly on her av, or dropped them on her profile. A relog sorted it that time, but hearing all this too.. kinda makes you wonder?

*really, really hopes no-one gets my inventory... but if they do, can I have it back sorted and neatly arranged? kthx! *

I don't like how these different issues are suddenly cropping up, all to do with people getting access to things they either shouldn't or weren't intended for them.

Straight after the 1.7 update I was on the live help shift, and we got someone who, was sitting on one guys object and if anyone in the same sim paid him any amount of money, it went to the owner of the object he was sitting on.. Freaky huh? Although, unverified I should point out..

I've hotlined these issues and pointed them to this thread. There appear to be some serious avatar routing issues that need solving with haste.

How is it a quick thing to test? It actually appears very random.

How would I know it appeared to be random if no one posted in this thread that it was occuring randomly? :P
